Project 01
Water & sanitation to disadvantage families
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
To empower war affected families to sustain their livelihood through
increased local income and reduced external dependency by providing
water facilities to coconut plantations& other vegetation. Strengthening
and sustaining household income, the war affected families have an
increased opportunity to lead a more independent life. There are limited
options of sources of income for people living in rural areas in poverty.
The income must be sustainable and meet the need of the family. The
income should be based upon the skills, experience and interest of the
Person or a family member and be applicable to their physical living
environment. Income is the main reason for every development in every
family. Therefore when given a hand to get some more income, each
family will develop themselves with our support. We aim for long term
projects which will ensure long term income, such as Coconut
plantations. Well and sanitation projects will belong projects.

Project 04
Empowerment of disadvantaged women.
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
To implement and deliver a holistic program that aims to empower the women
politically, economically and improve their physical and mental health.
The key concerns and obstacles are social stigma, economic disadvantage, low health
resources and mental stress. The combination of these issues and obstacles has
weakened their struggle in the community. They have limited employment
opportunities, lack of education for their children, injuries caused by war and lack of
medical intervention, no mental health care and sexual harassment and abuse. Another
disadvantage for these women is their status in their community and the lack of open
communication about abuse and sexual harassment due to fear.

Project 05 English language development to village children
The CHILD WIN PROJECT is currently underway in three villagers such as Ponnakar, Ananthapuram and Thondamannagar. A Total of122 student’s benefit out of this program. These children express lot of enthusiasm to learn English and their learning activity needs to be properly guided. These children have lost either one of their parents and the remaining parent is unable to guide their English learning at home due to their lack of English knowledge. Apart from that their low financial condition does not allow them to travel to the city to learn English.
Ponnakar
The children from this village live way under the poverty line. Either one of their
parents are dead or seriously injured by the civil war. These parents are either affected
physically or mentally.
Children are living under the poverty line, hencethey walk to school. Schools are not in
the same place where the children live.As the schools are so far from the village,
children don’t have time for extra classes.
These parents are doing daily waged labor jobs, they return home late in the evenings.
During this time the children are left alone and their times are not usefully managed.
Though these children are with no Basic English knowledge, they do express lot of
interest to learn when opportunity is given.

unable to properly write theEnglish alphabets or pronounce the words. Though the
parents motivatedfor their children to learn, they are unable to teach or guide them.
As we consider all three villages the children are very enthusiastic to learn through this
training project. Their parents arealso willing to do the training for their children. and
they are supporting us to continue this training..
The following aspects are identified in this English project. This will expand the
children’s ability to read, pronounce and gain Basic English knowledge. As there is a

Varasiththi
Vinayagar Alayam
Vara Sikthi Vinayagar temple
situated in Malayalapuram,
Kilinochchi district servicing
642 families. When
Malayalapuram village was
established at the same time
this temple was started by
this community to save their
lives from wild elephants &
other challenges forty years
ago. The village people built
this temple out of their own
money & dedicating their
man power to gradually build
this temple in 2007, amongst
various challenges,
displacements & war. The people of the village relieved their stress & worries through this temple
worship during hard times & war. In 2007 the whole village was displaced & moved towards
Mulivaikal by the end of war. During this final displacement 292 village people died due to the war
between 2007 & 2009, during this time the temple was totally destructed. Then village people
returned to Malayalapuram through IDP camps & resettlement processes in 2010. Since 2010 to
until now Malayalapuram village is gradually developing & rising itself to its former glory. Between
2013 to 2015 seven suicides have taken place.
The temple worship is most important to post war community for stress relief & resettlement. KKM
Vanni hope promoted the village people to rebuild their own temple. To support the rebuilding &
construction work, KKM Vanni Hope will contribute nearly 3 million Sri Lankan rupees from its
sponsors The village people are contributing whatever they can from their modest savings. We are
expecting the temple to be completed by April, & Kumbabisegam will be held in April.
KKM Vanni Hope believes stress relief is most important to post war community & to rebuild their
personal lives. The spiritual promotion is most needed to achieve our goal & objectives. The temple
will be a place for fellowship & social interaction within the community.
