Our Tent Service
…in the Sanctuary!
Rain forced us indoors, but we were still
filled with the Spirit! We welcomed ten
new members as they “graduated” from
Following Jesus, and celebrated the
confirmation of ten of our youth—two
of whom were baptized! We also
thanked Julie Bazzell for her years of
service and dedication, as she stepped
down as Director of Good Soil
Children’s Ministries.

KIUMC NEWSLETTER June/July 2018
What a weekend! Many thanks to everyone who helped make our Seventh
Annual Family Carnival Outreach a success, whether you donated money to
help a family enjoy the festivities, gave an item to the Silent Auction,
volunteered your time… or just came out and supported us by joining in the
fun!
All in all, we were able to distribute approximately 117 outreach packets to
local families. This provided about 279 free ride tickets, as well as about 542
free meals. So again, THANK YOU for helping us show the love of Christ to
our neighbors and our community!

KIUMC NEWSLETTER June/July 2018
We have come to the end of our Connections dinners until we restart again after Labor Day. Every Wednesday
evening at 6pm, those who attended Connections dinners enjoyed delicious meals prepared by members and
friends of our church.
I have had the pleasure of having faithful cooks that served a meal
every month. Susan Phillips and Mia Cranford committed to the first
Wednesday of every month, and Dana Cresanto and Chrissy Heyliger
prepared a meal the last Wednesday of every month. It was a
delight knowing that the meals were set for those Wednesdays. The
rest of the Wednesdays, meals were prepared by other groups like
EGR (Extra Grace Required), Celebrate Recovery, Men’s Breakfast and
The 2nd Row Pew girls.
The last Wednesday before summer break was a no-cost potluck for
anyone who chose to eat a meal together. What a great way to
make it feel like being with family.
You may have heard the saying that many hands make light work, so I
am always looking for more people to share in this ministry of
preparing a meal for about 60 people. The meal can be as simple as
sloppy joe sandwiches, hamburgers and hot dogs, backed ziti, fried
chicken, or what you would prepare for a family meal at your own
home. Whatever your heart desires!
We hope that more people will consider coming to share the
Connections meal and then attend either Celebrate Recovery or
other adult educational classes put together by the Director of
Adult Education Brenda Faulkner. This will be an opportunity for
you to enjoy the fellowship of other believers and grow spiritually
with group Bible or Book study.
We will start back up again after
summer break on Wednesday, August
5th. Please consider cooking a meal
and coming to share a meal with a
group of delightful people.

Can you believe it? We have completed our first year in
ministry at Kent Island UMC. What an exciting and
energizing time to serve as a Pastor at KIUMC! We spent
the last year proclaiming that we are a Presence Based
Church. We have yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit
in all matters. Ministry brings many victories and
challenges, but through it all, we are overcomers.
We are grateful for the many ways you have reached out
to us. It has been a seamless transition. We are praising
God for each one of you!

KIUMC NEWSLETTER June/July 2018
We spent a lot of time during Lent talking about what we
believe and why we believe it. What do we do with this
information? Now what?
As believers, let’s get back to our primary responsibility: to be
and make disciples. When that happens, our communities will
see the Kingdom of God in action.
On June 10th we will begin a 6-week sermon series called,
“Now What?”
Pastor Mark
Galatians 2:20
All are invited to an Information Forum on “The Way Forward,” a commission surrounding the issue of
human sexuality in the United Methodist Church. Forums will be held at 7:00pm on June 11th and June 25th
in Fellowship Hall. Please contact the church office for more information.
Please be in prayer about our Roof Fund! The total cost of repairing our roof is estimated to be
$82,000. Insurance is expected to cover $58,000, which leaves approximately a $24,000 gap for us
to bridge. We know that God will help us to Raise the Roof!
