Kishori Summer Training Camp Report After having reviewed the enthusiasm and interest shown at last years summer camp we have this year also conducted a training camp for the younger adolescent women during the summer vacation holidays. Around 63 younger women have participated in this camp. These women come from the various nearby villages of Nagepur and Harsos. Some of these women who attended the training camp also attend the schools run by Lok Samiti, ASHA Navjyothi and while the remaining either attend the Kishori Kendras (which also run by Lok Samiti and ASHA Navjyothi) or stay at homes. The Summer Camp was conducted from May 14- Jun15 and the classes ran from 9am in the morning to 3pm in the afternoon during which training was provided to the Kishori women in (a) Weaving/Stitching (b) Computer Training (c) Beautician (d) Music and Dance (e) Handicrafts (f) CandleMaking (g) Making Papads Some of the teachers were hired from Varanasi and some of the local teachers had participated in training the Kishoris. Urmilaji, Nituji and Sulekhaji had provided training to the women on Silai-Kada and making petticoats and blouses. Priyankaji provided training in the area of beautician . The Kishoris were taught about facials, eyebrow, hairstyling, pedicure, manicure massage etc. This was noted as one source of income generation particularly during the time of marriages. Priyadarshiniji has provided some training in music and dance. Minishaji and Poojaji had provide training in making handicrafts such as toys, flowerpots, idols of Gods and also making artificial jewellery. Om Prakashji and Sanjayji provided computer training to the women. For some of the women it was the first time to see a computer and was very pleased to see what this curious machine can do. They have expressed interest in pursuing courses in Computer.

At the end of the Summer Training course, a ceremony was arranged in which the local

leaders of the community had participated. The community leaders then presented certificates

to all the Kishori participants. During this ceremony a small exhibition was organized during

which some handicrafts and other items made by the Kishoris during the summer camp were

put for sale. Many people had purchased these items and thereby encouraged the Kishori

Kendras. A dinner was later organized which was attened by all the teachers, organizers,

Kishoris and their family members.
