The college has centres in Dewsbury andHuddersfield which are large townssituated in the centre of the UK in an areaknown as Kirklees. The major cities ofLeeds, Manchester and Sheffield are closeby and London is just 3 hours away bytrain. Kirklees is a popular destination forstudents as the general costs of living arearound 40% less compared to other partsof the UK, such as the South of England.

“I came to the UK to study English as it will enable me to get a betterjob. Kirklees provides an ideal place to study as there is a lot to do butit’s not too crowded. Huddersfield has a good football team which playsat a cool stadium and there is a good shopping centre, park andmuseum. I like the friendly people in the area and the excellent teachersat the College. The College has good facilities including a big libraryand IT centre as well as different places to eat. I’ve mixed well withother students and made some good friends. It’s a very good coursewhich has really helped improve my English. I’d recommend KirkleesCollege – you’ll get a good education, make new friends and its a lovelyplace to live.

Surrounded by National Trust moorlandand the Peak District National Park,Kirklees offers a variety of differentwalking and cycling routes with panoramicviews around picturesque villages,reservoirs and moorlands which havebecome famous TV and film locations.Pony-trekking, golfing, hang-gliding,fishing, canoeing, rock climbing, sailing,scuba diving and trips down the manycanals on a narrow-boat are available.

“The UK is recognised around the world for its good standards ofeducation. I came to Kirklees College because they can help me get touniversity just like my brother. The College has great staff in theInternational Office and of course the course tutors. The College is in agreat place – right in the town centre. I live with other internationalstudents in a big house and we have a great time together. I use a lotof the facilities around College from the excellent library to the well-equipped IT centre plus there are plenty of convenient places to eatgood food. I was welcomed by students and staff and settled in veryquickly. My focus is to get a place at university studying for a degree inaccounting & finance – the course is teaching me everything I need toknow and will help me achieve my goal. I’d definitely recommend theCollege as it’s the perfect place to prepare you for further study.

You can see a show at the renownedLawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield,attend one of the many concerts that areheld throughout the year at Holmfirth’sPicturedrome or visit the wonderfulcollection of museums, exhibitions andgalleries which include the contemporaryYorkshire Sculpture Park, National CoalMining Museum for England and NationalMedia Museum in nearby Bradford.

“The UK has a good reputation for study that’s why I came here. Itprovides a good environment for improving your English. After I’vefinished my English course I plan to study a Travel & Tourismqualification at the College and then go onto University. My friendrecommended the College to me because it has good teachers and shesuccessfully progressed onto university. I like Kirklees because it has agood shopping centre, big cinema, museums and beautiful countryside.I’ve made lots of friends whilst I’ve been here and we meet up outsideCollege to go shopping, walking in the countryside and visiting otherplaces – we recently went to York.

It’s not all work, work, work at Kirklees College. In fact there are lots ofopportunities for students to get involved in activities outside the classroomgiving you the chance to take up a new interest, make new friends and mostimportantly have a great time whilst at the College.

THE STUDENTS’ UNIONThe Students’ Union is run forstudents by students. It offers ahuge range of activities includingtrips, parties, clubs, societies andcharity events. Our students arealso encouraged to take on moreserious roles ranging from CourseRepresentatives to InternationalOfficer on the College’s Students’Union Executive Team.

GLOBAL VILLAGEThe Students’ Union also organisesour Global Village events. TheGlobal Village gives all students aunique opportunity to makefriends whilst understanding andcelebrating international festivalsand events with their peers.

SPORT & LEISURE ACTIVITIESThe College’s Enrichment teamoffers a massive range of leisureand sports activities which are freeof charge to join. Activities includeCollege radio and interiordecoration to Brazilian dance,College magazine and gaming.

The College also has competitivesports teams in Football,Basketball and Rugby League aswell as other sports for pureenjoyment including badminton,fitness classes, cricket andclimbing.

There is a huge range of shops in the areaincluding the Kingsgate Shopping Centrein Huddersfield, Yorkshire’s largest openmarket in Dewsbury and The YorkshireMill Mile which is a stretch of mill shopsincluding the largest retail mill in the UKat Batley. Large shopping centres are alsonearby at Leeds, Sheffield & Manchester.

“I chose the UK as a place to study because degrees from here are wellrecognised. Kirklees College was recommended to me by a friend. Ireally like it - the tutors are always there for you - they have the personaltouch and want to help you succeed. I was welcomed into the class fromthe start and everyone is really friendly. The course is really developingmy skills and is taught very well. I’m currently working for a designagency whist I am studying so hopefully this will put me in a greatposition when I finish the course. I’d definitely recommended theCollege – it’s a nice place, not too expensive to live here and the peopleare very friendly.

DDeeppoossiittssOnce you have made a successful application to KirkleesCollege we will provide you with a Letter of Confirmationwhich states the total fees payable. In order for us toproceed with your application a deposit will need to bepaid. The deposit amount and payment details will bestated in your letter.

IMMIGRATIONThe UK immigration system is changing dramatically andwill affect students wishing to study in the UK. You mayneed a visa to enter the UK and this should be done in thecountry where you are resident. For the latest informationplease visit:www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk

EEA students – if you are a citizen from one of the EEAcountries you many need entry clearance before you travelto the UK.

VViissaa NNaattiioonnaallss – if you are a visa national you must alwayshold entry clearance to gain entry to the UK.

Points Based System – Tier 4If you need to apply for a student visa under Tier 4 of thePoints Based System to study, Kirklees College will need toissue you with a unique Confirmation of Acceptance toStudy (CAS) number. Please contact the InternationalOffice as soon as possible [email protected]

GETTING TO KIRKLEESOnce you have accepted your place on a Kirklees Collegecourse you will need to make final arrangements fortravelling to the UK. It is likely that you will arrive at eitherManchester International or London Heathrow Airport. Ifyou arrive in London then we recommend that you take aconnecting flight to Leeds/Bradford Airport. FromManchester or Leeds/Bradford you can organise to take atrain to Huddersfield or alternatively the International Officecan help you organise a transfer. Please contact us [email protected]

In September you will be invited to participate in anInternational Student Welcome Event to help you settle intoCollege. We also run regular induction and welcomeactivities throughout the year should you miss out on thismain event.

There is always lots to do all year roundfrom watching successful HuddersfieldTown football club and HuddersfieldGiants rugby league club at the modernGalpharm Stadium to seeing the latestfilms at the Odeon multi-screen cinema orvisting Oakwell Hall Country Park, award-winning Cannon Hall Farm and Ponderosaanimal park . You can also try skiing andsnowboarding at Xscape, near Leeds.

“I work for the Ministry of Health who gave me the opportunity tocontinue my studies. I chose the UK as it’s the best place to learnEnglish. Once I’ve finished my course at Kirklees College I’m going ontoa degree in pharmacy science at Huddersfield University. The Collegestaff are great and very helpful. The College’s facilities are good – theyhave everything you need and the latest equipment. I’ve met a lot ofpeople from all over the world from Spain to Columbia and we’vebecome good friends – we meet outside College. I’d recommendKirklees College – I’m telling my friends all about it.

“A degree is very valuable in India and ever since I was young I’ve wantedto get a degree from the UK because it has a good standard of education.I like the environment at Kirklees College which has a strong reputationfor the course, excellent achievement, modern facilities and students goonto get good jobs. I really like the staff who help you a lot. TheInternational Office also gives you all the support you need. Kirklees is anice place to live and there is a lot to do when you are not studying. I feltwelcomed by the other students when I first arrived and we’ve becomefriends. When I’ve finished studying in the UK I plan to go back to Indiaand start my own design business. I’d recommend the College - it’s agreat course taught by great staff.
