Doosan Power Systems Kirklees Energy from waste PROJECT PROFILE KIRKLEES, UK Doosan Lentjes (through its predecessor Lurgi) was awarded the contract by Kirklees Waste Services Limited to completely refurbish an existing municipal waste incinerator in Huddersfield, UK. The plant is designed to manage the waste of around 400,000 people. The energy-from-waste plant incinerates 136,000 Mg/a of household waste to generate 9MW of electrical energy to the grid. The contract incorporated complete new process steam, using reciprocating grate technology, a recovery boiler, turbine and a semi dry gas cleaning plant which fully complies with EU Incineration Directive requirements. The contract reflects the UK’s growing acceptance of energy from waste as part of an integrated waste strategy.
