Principal’s Pen
Term 1 has whizzed by, and as it draws to an end I
am happy to say we have achieved a lot. The last 2
weeks, students have been undertaking their Term 1
reading assessments, and we have seen 100%
growth and progress in students’ reading.
I am very excited for these holidays, and there’s no
need to explain why, but I’d like to remind parents
that I am away on Long Service Leave Week 1 of
Term 2. In my absence Tracy-Lee will be the Acting
Principal, therefore, if you have any queries or
questions, please contact her on the school mobile,
school landline (details on newsletter header), or her
email [email protected]. I will still be available for
contact from April 6-12.
Lastly, I’d like to wish everyone a happy Easter, and
for those who are going away, safe travels.
Miss Amy Lawson
Highlights of Weeks 5-9:

successful term of swimming lessons.

Healthy Hints
Lunchbox food can impact your child’s mood,
behaviour, concentration and health. All of which
have a direct correlation toward students’ academic
achievement. Give your children the best chance at
school by following these suggestions below:
Pack more fruit and vegetables
Reduce processed packaged food
Turn the packet over and look at the
ingredients before buying
Send water as the main drink, and plain milk
if they want milk
NAPLAN Online
Students in Year 3 and 5 will be undertaking NAPLAN
Online next term. As part of the transition, Year 3
and 5 students will be participating in a Practice Test
on Wednesday, 3rd April to ensure student logins, ICT
infrastructure and the NAPLAN Online platform is
ready for use in May.
Circus Challenge Workshop
The Australian Circus Company will be visiting Kioma
on Tuesday, 2nd April for a performance and to
conduct a circus skills workshop for students.
Lundavra State School will be joining us for the
morning and first lunch before returning to their
school.
Speed Zones
A friendly reminder from myself and Constable
Jordan to be mindful of the speed zones around the
school, particularly during school hours. It would
also be appreciated if you could share this with any
truck drivers, contractors or farmhands possibly
traveling this way.
School Watch
Keep our school safe during the holiday break.
Please report anything suspicious.

Healthy Hints cont’d
A delicious recipe for pumpkin and rocket/spinach
salad to try out during the holidays!
Pumpkin & Rocket/Spinach Salad
Ingredients
½ Jap pumpkin, cut into 2cm thick wedges
100ml extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon chilli flakes
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 cups wild rocket leaves/spinach leaves
Feta
½ cup macadamia nuts, roughly chopped & toasted
Salt, to season
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C and line 2
baking trays with foil.
2. Arrange the pumpkin in a single layer on the
baking trays. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of oil,
scatter over the chilli flakes and season. Bake
for 20-25 minutes until tender and lightly
golden. Set aside to cool.
3. Meanwhile, whisk lemon juice with remaining
¼ cup of oil, then season and set dressing
aside.
4. Place pumpkin in a serving bowl with the
rocket/spinach and toasted macadamias, add
feta. Drizzle dressing, then toss to combine and
serve.
