IN MEMORIUM

PETER ROBERTSON BORN: 24.02.1933 DIED: 17.08.2015

Peter Robertson passed away 17/08/2016 after a short illness.

Peter was founding president of St. John Vianney’s Cricket Club one of the legacy clubs of Kingston

Hawthorn Cricket Club and remained president for ten years as the club grew from the one team that started

in 1975.

Peter was the first life member of the club. For the first few years of the club’s existence Peter’s garage, at

the rear of his home, was used as the clubrooms until the pavilion at Walter Galt Reserve came available in

1980.

We were lucky to have the hospitality of Peter and his wife Bernadette. Peter played 127 games for the club

but it was as an administrator that he made his mark.

Peter may not have agreed with some of the decisions that were made during is tender, however he was not one to stand in the

way of progress and saw the club start up junior teams, the migration to turf cricket by the club as well has finding our current

home at Walter Galt reserve.

Peter is survived by his wife Bernadette, his children Julian, Philippa and Caroline and three grandchildren. Peter was also one of

the founding members of the pre-season golf trip to Corowa every AFL preliminary final week end which has now been continuous

for 34 years.

PETER WINGRAVE BORN: 24.02.1955 DIED: 05.09.2015

Life Member Peter Wingrave passed away at 5.25pm on 5th September 2015 after a short illness. Peter started at St. John Vianney’s Cricket Club when his son Matthew started playing under 12s in 1991 and was soon the Junior Co-ordinator for the club and joined the main committee in 1995. Peter stayed on the committee and was Honorary Secretary from 2000-2006. Both sons Matthew and Shane played first XI for the club. Though Peter never played for the club he was instrumental in many innovations that saw the club grow during the years that he was involved. He was on the sub-committee that got Kingston Saints into Subbies

as well as being one of the main instigators of the annual think tanks that the club had to develop the strategies that the club required to become successful over the years. Peter was also one of the people that started the guest speaker functions and worked hard to make these successful over the years, making a lot of money for the club. Peter was awarded the best clubman award in 2000/01 Peter is survived by his wife Helen and children Matthew, Kellie and Shane and daughter-in-law Kirsty.

OSSIE PERCY FRYER: BORN: 24.02.1923 DIED: 30.12.2015

The death in late 2015 of Oswald Fryer – always known as Ossie – has removed from the Club one of the few remaining players

from the pre-World War Two era. He was 92 years of age.

Ossie joined Hawthorn-East Melbourne in 1939 and in his first year at the Club the promising sixteen-year-old wicket-keeper

played First XI cricket with the Sub-District team and his debut was at Malvern in February of 1940. On his debut, Ossie’s first scalp

was Len Garnar a former VCA Colts and South Melbourne cricketer whom he caught off the bowling of Harry Blenheim. Malvern

was dismissed for 278 and in reply H-EM made 238 and Fryer, the number eleven batsman, was left nought not out. Keith Lording

had earlier made 84. Harry Blenheim, as was his way, hit a quick forty odd and took four wickets.

The young wicket-keeper, Fryer, had joined the Club at a time when H-EM was rich with wicket-keeping talent. At the time, Ben

Barnett was the Australian Test wicket-keeper, and Barnett’s deputies, Colin Bremner and Vic Woolf were not just good young

players, but became outstandingly good ‘keepers. Group Captain Colin Bremner would play first-class cricket and after the War,

Woolf would play on until 1956 and enjoy a career that included three First XI premierships. During the war years, the Club also

boasted Bert Oldfield, the Australian Test wicket-keeper, who it was said imparted great cricket knowledge to the younger players.

But the war clouds that were building in Europe would deny Fryer further youthful cricket opportunities and like many others,

Ossie lost his best younger years to the Second World War. He joined the 2nd A.I.F. as an eighteen-year-old in 1941. The H-EMCC

Annual Report made comment of he and a number of others enlisting and also of their visiting the Club whenever possible. It was

a difficult era with cricket clubs regularly short of available players and those players that were available, played very little or not

at all, due to time required at military training camps and military transfers.

Consequently, it was not until 1947, that he was able to play regularly and for the remainder of his cricket career, he was the first

choice wicket-keeper for the Sub-District 1st XI team.

By 1948 he was firmly established as the Sub-District First XI wicket-keeper and in 1949 and 1950, he played twenty-four matches

with the District Second XI but thereafter remained with the Sub-District First eleven. Over the next decade he played over 170

matches before retiring mid-way through the 1961-62 season. Ossie Fryer was also a committeeman for ten years.

He was one of several former players that attended an extremely successful Hawthorn-East Melbourne reunion at the Glenferrie

Oval in 1983, when players from many eras attended, that stretched from the 1921 season to the present.

Fryer’s best batting performance came against Ivanhoe in 1953-54 when he scored 65 not out that saw H-EM defeat Ivanhoe. He

generally batted in the lower-middle order but during 1941-42, he often opened the innings where his best score was 50, also

against Ivanhoe. However, Ivanhoe did have their moments against Fryer, when they dismissed him for a pair in 1947. After the

war he was at one time, the vice-captain. He was a member of the Box Hill R.S.L.

Statistically, with full figures not known:

MOLLY SUNDBERG: BORN: 18.11.1926 DIED: 11.02.2016

Molly (Nita) Sundberg was a proud mother to two cricketing sons, Paul and Mark, who both represented Hawthorn-East

Melbourne First XI. Molly had to enjoy cricket, it was deeply instilled in her family!

Molly’s husband, Thaddeus, - better known as Ted - was a strong cricketing person, a player, coach and loyal clubman to Caulfield

Cricket Club in the Sub-District. Ted was a Hon. Life Member of Caulfield C.C.

Molly followed Ted’s career, but when her son, Paul, began playing at Hawthorn-East Melbourne, in 1972, she was regularly seen

at Hawthorn matches. Paul went on play 200 First XI matches and was appointed 1st XI captain for the final three seasons the Club

played at Glenferrie Oval. Molly had the pleasure of watching her two sons, Paul and Mark opening the batting for Hawthorn-EM

during the 1980-81 season. This was, perhaps, one of the few times that brothers had opened the first eleven innings for H-EM.

Mark began in the H-EM First XI in 1978 and later played with Northcote and is still the President at Northcote Cricket Club.

Molly was always a cheerful supporter and a welcome spectator at District matches, in the days when Club’s seemed to have their

regular group of travelling supporters. Molly lived the last decade of her life without Ted who had passed away in 2006. She was

also one of the remaining few supporters that regularly attended matches at the Glenferrie before the Club, sadly, left the ground.

LORETTA CANN (DEAN): BORN 22.05.1942 DIED: 28.03.2016

Loretta Cann passed away toward the end of March, just after the cricket season. Loretta was a fiercely proud Carlton supporter,

of both the cricket and football clubs and during a cricket season would generally always be seen following the Carlton First

Eleven. Loretta’s daughter, Annette, however, was at cricket, a Hawthorn follower. Annette has for the past twenty years followed

the cricket club around the grounds and of more recent time, Annette has fulfilled the role of maintaining the ground scoreboard,

both electronically and manually. She has followed Hawthorn from Waverley, Monash and now to Parkdale. It was always a good

match when Hawthorn played Carlton with some friendly rivalry between Loretta and Annette.

However, Loretta also always had a bit of a soft spot for Hawthorn, not just because of Annette’s association, but because in the

1940’s some of her family had football connections to Hawthorn and one had played at the Club. In the past season, Loretta and

Annette attended a Kingston Hawthorn social event toward the end of the season. The Club offer their condolences to the family

and friends of Peter, Peter, Ossie, Molly and Loretta.

JOHN PLUMRIDGE BORN 19.04.1944 DIED: 28.06.2016

Club Life Member John Kevin Plumridge passed away in his sleep after a nine-month illness. He was 72 years of age and leaves his wife of 50 years, Bernadette and 3 adult children. John Plumridge was born on the 13th of April 1944 and attended Parade College, East Melbourne where he excelled at both cricket and football and participated in many sporting battles against fierce school rivals, St Bede’s Mentone. It was during these sporting battles against St Bede’s that John first came across a young St Bede’s sports star who would become a lifelong friend of more than 50 years, Tom Hynes. It was thru this friendship that John was recruited to the

Club with which he would make such a significant contribution.

John was known as ‘Plum’ or ‘Plummer’ to his mates and joined St Bede’s Old Collegians Cricket Club in the late 1960’s as a fast bowling all-rounder from Sub-District Club Port Melbourne. A key senior player over the next 10 years, John had the honour and distinction of being captain of the 1st XI Premiership team of 1975/76 in Federal District 1st Turf. A feat the Club had not achieved previously. ‘Plum’ would remind his team mates that it took a Parade boy to lead St Bede’s to a flag! Upon leaving Parade College, John debuted for South Melbourne Football Club as an 18-year-old in 1962, a season in which he played 8 senior games. He played the last of his 12 senior games in 1963 as a 19-year-old and pursued his football in the strong Ballarat League. It was during this time that Tom Hynes also joined South Melbourne Football Club where he played 14 senior games over 3 seasons. A family notice listed him as a “Loving Dad to David and Lizzy, Christopher, Natalie and Tony. Devoted Pa to Matthew, Bernadette, Sarah, Luke, Jacqueline and Elizabeth”. Our thoughts are with John’s family at this time and we thank him for his service to the Club.

PRESIDENTS REPORT

Petar Ivetic PRESIDENT

It is with immense pride and pleasure that I write the inaugural President’s report for Kingston Hawthorn

Cricket Club and what a year it has been.

The Club was officially formed post the Kingston Saints AGM on Wednesday, June 10th 2015. We had no

coach, clubs trying to recruit our players, no real opportunity to drive sponsorship and no apparel. On Friday,

2nd October (1st game against Dandenong), the club had secured a head coach, had recruited a few talented

players, had secured close to $20,000 in sponsorship and had apparel from BLK Sports (best apparel provider in Australia). Credit

goes to the Committee for their hard work, effort and energy (and time away from their families) to achieve all this in 16 weeks.

FINANCIALS

Our Club has recorded an operating loss of $15,508. An operating loss was expected, however the amount is significantly less than

we expected and it was not helped by the Council not paying for the curation maintenance which cost the Club $10,000.

Our apparel outlay was close to $50,000 and we had to spend that money as it was new apparel of an entirely new (and very

attractive) design for the Club. By comparison the apparel outlay this FY will be ~$13,000.

The Club has also secured brand new mowers, sight-screens, covers and a super-sopper; however, we still require a new electronic

scoreboard and honour board.

There are still significant works that need to be done to ensure our Club meets Cricket Victoria’s criteria:

Securing a second oval

Installation of new turf practice wickets

Increasing the centre wicket table from 6 to 8 wickets

The good news is that we have begun work on sponsorship and our main sponsorship drive for the year has already commenced.

We are also fortunate to have a number of key partners sign up for the 2016/17 season. Our goal is to return a profit next year;

however, this can only be done through hard work and support from all our members in our sponsorship drive and fund raising

activities.

In summary, the Club continues to be financially viable and we are in a strong financial position, however, we will need to continue

the hard work, support the fund raising initiatives, use out of the box thinking to ensure our revenue enables us to cover our yearly

expenditure and achieve our future goals.

COACHING

I am delighted that Mr. James Miller joined our Club as the inaugural coach in July 2015. The contract is for three years.

James brings with him 16 years of premier cricket experience, Ryder medallist and one of the most respected people in cricket.

James has impressed all at the Club with his professionalism, time, effort and energy and also the hierarchy at Cricket Victoria.

James will be conducting his level 3 coaching course in October and there is no question he will be involved in the Cricket Victoria

system in years to come.

The Club finished second in the Spirit of Cricket Award, just missing finishing on top by .03% and had more wins this season than

last. Congratulations to James on a marvellous first year in coaching and also being selected in the premier cricket team of the

year. We are in good hands and the future is very bright for the Club.

STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS

Our relationship with Cricket Victoria remains strong and we are building a very good relationship with the Kingston Councillors.

Mayor Tamsin Beardsley is the Clubs’ number 1 female ticket holder and Cr Geoff Gledhill the Clubs number 1 male ticket holder.

The Club has seen the Chairman of Cricket Victoria, Mr. Russell Thomas speak at a Club functions and attend a number of matches.

Feedback from Cricket Victoria hierarchy is that they are very pleased on how well the Club has landed and they see a bright future

for the Club.

Our local community continues to be very much involved with the club, with many people attending the ground on match days

and other functions. In a T20 match the club sold over 70 burgers and made $2,000 over the bar. Many opposition clubs have

made comment on how amazed they are on the number of people supporting the club and the great culture. We have even had

umpires make comment that they enjoy umpiring at the ground and staying behind to socialise.

The Club hosted the Hong Kong Cricket Club in a T20 match and one that was very successful. Dinner post-match had over 90

people attend, with speeches from Mayor Tamsin Beardsley and Mr. Russell Thomas. This was the first international match played

in Kingston against a Kingston based club.

We are extremely fortunate to have the support of the Cricket Victoria, Councillors, local Community and volunteers but we must

recommit ourselves to giving back and investing in these relationships as it is only with their support can this club become the

truly great club it has the potential it to be.

Hawks Cricket Academy + Cricket School

The 2016 Hawks Cricket Academy (HCA) and Cricket School (HCS) kicked off in February with an information evening at Walter

Galt. The 14-week winter programs will be run by our senior coach Mr. James Miller, with support from Mr Phil O’Meara, Mr.

Javed Khan, senior players and committee members.

We have 33 players aged between 10 and 17 in the program, which is split in two.

1. Cricket School: 10 to 13 year olds - 90 minute sessions

2. Cricket Academy: 14 to 17 year olds - 120 minute sessions

The program commenced on Friday, 6th May and will conclude on Wednesday, 10th August. We have been fortunate to secure 4

of the indoor net training sessions at the MCG.

There is an amazing amount of energy from all in developing and running this program and the feedback from the parents thus

far is that they are very impressed with the professionalism of the program. Our vision is to have a pathway from junior cricket in

to senior cricket with numbers next year to exceed over 50.

SPONSORSHIP

I would like to thank our wonderful sponsors and those who have made considerable donations to our Club:

National Infrastructure Solutions

BLK Sports

Parkdale and Mentone Community Bendigo Bank

Number 90 Reception Centre

I am pleased to announce that our key partners in National Infrastructure Solutions, BLK Sports and Mentone Community Bendigo

Bank have agreed to be involved with our Club for the 2016/17 season. The re-signing of our key partners so early in the year

reinforces the strength of our Club and the relationships that we have established.

The Club has also introduced a major sponsorship drive which we hope will raise $10,000. We are also hopeful of gaining further

sponsors for this season as we are now a known entity and as a committee we will be able to dedicate more attention and time

to that area compared with last season

APPRECIATION

There is no question that this season has been our busiest and for obvious reasons. Without the hard work of our volunteers, who

have spent significant time effort in building our clubs brand and profile, we would not be in the wonderful position that we are

in.

Committee:

Brett Sebire: Vice President

Danny Stevenson: Treasurer

John R Noonan: Administration Manager

Phil O’Meara: Director of Cricket and Chairman of Selectors

Gaurav Kapoor General Committee

Peter Knuppel General Committee

Greg McLeod General Committee

Shane McQuinn General Committee

David Scott General Committee

The Committee deserve significant recognition on the countless hours spent at Committee meetings, Council meetings, Cricket

Victoria meetings, recruitment meetings, sponsorship meetings, e-mails and phone calls back and forth. Extremely proud on how

well the Committee has supported each other and worked well together.

I would also to recognise the following for the tireless effort, support and dedication to the Club.

Mr. Craig Reece for scoring in the 1st XI.

Mr. James Moloney for scoring in our 2nd XI.

Ms. Annette Cann for doing the scoreboard. At all our home games.

Mr. Frank Miller as our net captain and 1st XI team manager

Mr. Brian Hunt for his amazing work around the club on ensuring our grounds are prepared on game day

Mrs. Anne O’Meara for canteen support with lunches and with special events

Mrs. Robyn McLeod for canteen support with lunches and with special events

Mr. Mark Davies as our graphical designer and developing all the Clubs flyers

Mr. Rod Howe for his support of coach Mr. James Miller and with the players

We have grand plans for growth and development in our Milo and In2 Cricket programs our junior teams and junior cricket, our

cricket school and cricket academy, and our senior sides.

We still have many challenges, our on ground facilities do require work, we need our practice wickets an expanded wicket table

on our main ground, a quality second ground a scoreboard just to name a few. But these are all within our power to resolve and

we already have plans in place and the wheels are already in motion.

Coming from the Hawthorn historical side of club, we have been through 6 years of uncertainty and turmoil and the possibility of

extinction, to now having a wonderful home here with Kingston at Walter Galt, I could not be happier nor prouder. But with al l

clubs they are only as good as their people and with the people we have at this club…. the players, coaches, committee, volunteers

sponsors and supporters…. Our Club’s future could not be any brighter.

Go Hawks!

COACHES REPORT

The 2015/16 Kingston Hawthorn season started for me with a phone call from Phil O’Meara for a chat, that

“Chat” coincided with a few more meetings, a very positive phone discussion with Ox (Outgoing Hawthorn

Monash Coach) and 6 days later my “5-year plan” to become a coach had just been fast tracked a little.

There was a lot of HARD work to do.

The first days of the season all revolved around the emails, a lot of the crew where overseas so touch typing

got a massive work out.

Highs & Lows of Pre-season:

Meeting new faces & great people

Working out names, I was much better at it than Franky!

Meeting and working with Ryan, a very passionate, positive Hawthorn man

Ryan's VISA

Training at the MCG……. at midnight!

Positivity & support from all players, board members & Cricket Victoria

Amazing Race & team building session with guest coach Barry Nievandt...

Other things of note:

A very positive Seasons launch function

Launch of coach the coach program

Back to club & community development program

Guest elite coaches (David Hemp, Catheryn Fitzpatrick & Dave Hussey)

Player trials

Round 1 & season proper:

I love the excitement of Rd 1 every season…. And then Round 1 happened! 4 of the more comprehensive defeats you are likely to

see, a friendly reminder we still had a lot of HARD work to do.

Round 2 saw the first wins for the club (2's & 4's) & improvement signs in the top grade. HARD Work to do – But getting there –

Signs are positive despite not many wins.

Round 4 - First win in the top grade for Kingston Hawthorn & 3 out of 4 for the club!!

Unfortunately, Round 5 was another reality check with 4 defeats for the club for the 3rd time in the first 5 games followed by 14

people in attendance for a guest coach who was one of the most successful player / coaches in Australia's recent history. There

were some club improvements following that with 1st XI win vs a fancied Melb Uni, a 2nd XI 1 run loss against perennial 2nd XI

finalists Fitzroy, and 3rd XI taking games all to the wire on the Doncaster bottom oval. We’ve got some HARD work to do. But

things are happening.

Enter the T20's which was definitely a highlight of the season. 1st XI Smashed Ringwood, and then chased down a big score v

Northcote for two wins from two, followed by a big weekend v powerhouse clubs Melbourne & Prahran. Huss running a fantastic

T20 guest coach session (55 people in attendance vs 14 for Fitz) ... Then we beat him on Sunday. This following after being one

close game from going 4/4 v Melb. If we can do it in the short form, we can do it in the longer. We’re moving in the right direction.

3 from 4 wins against Greenvale including a hard fought victory in the 1's in 40+degree heat and we’ve achieved more season wins

before Xmas than the previous season - we're getting somewhere, were our expectations too low?? A deserved Xmas break & in

round 13 we achieve the first 4 wins from 4 games for the club in 12 years. We're currently sitting 13th in the club champ and

closer to 8th place than 17th (the position we've held 5 of the last 6 years).

Page 14: Kingston Hawthornkingstonhawthorn.vic.cricket.com.au/files/210/files/AnnualReports/khcc... · SEASON 2015/2016 Presented to members 18th July 2016 . Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club

Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club Annual Report | 2015-2016

P a g e 14 | 40

Things are good: either side of Xmas, ROUNDS 8-13, we've won 5 out of 6 in the 1’s & 14 from 24 all up – We had a ripping night

at the hypnotist and have lots of cause for optimism.

Extra highs:

JT’s Birthday song (our overseas contingent as a whole)

Jono Boyd channel his inner Monty Burns, (see his vest!)

Facebook banter – special mention to Besty, Greg Connor, Canno & Hilsy

Nico aggressively agreeing to everything on stage.

Selection of TC and Besty for indigenous state side, them both contributing for the team culminating in Besty’s team of

the tournament selection.

Last 4 games and season close: -

A disturbing lack of training attendance, often starting with less than 20 players, completely unacceptable for Premier

Cricket

Mass unavailability for selection debilitating Jono’s attempt at 4th XI finals

We win only 4 of our last 16 games as a club.

Our distinct lack of depth, consistency & unfortunately QUALITY shown up on a grand scale. We still have A LOT OF HARD work

to do.

In summary: Was this season a success? That’s a really tough to answer. There were many highs with lows to match.

Are we in a better place than when we started? – I believe there is an OVERWHELMING YES. Is there room for Improvement? –

MASSIVE OVERWHELMING YES! Overall: Yes, this can be seen as successful if we use as a platform to bigger & better things in

the future. This will not be seen as successful if we don't learn, improve, and benefit from the things we identify we need to work

HARD on. We have A LOT of work to do. I am very much up to the challenge, as I hope is everyone else.

I would sincerely like to Thank:

The Board - Petar, Brett, PK, Danny, Scotty, Greg, Phil & JR. Every challenge was dealt with positively, calmly without exception.

Captains & support staff:

Rhino, Tav, Lachie.

Dirk, Javed

Canno, Muj, mick O & JK

Jono Boyd – great addition – Thank you

Deano & all guest coaches. Barry, Hempy, Fitz & Huss

Dirk for the fitness – we’ll expect more in the future.

All players & supporters for making the place great to be around.

Mark for cooking the BBQ and Thursday meals!

My personal Thank You’s: My extended Miller family, Anne, Frank & the siblings for support. Frank in particular – I couldn't have

done it without you.

The Immediate Millers - Lynda, Ethan, Ayla & Edward – Thanks is TWO-FOLD

Thanks for putting up with me!

I try not to bring home & work issues to cricket, not that I have many!

I also try to not bring cricket highs/lows home with me - Much like the game itself sometimes we are more successful

than others.

More importantly thanks for understanding my extended absences. I know it can be hard, truly, a heartfelt thank you.

The future: There is a big pre-season planned – and we look forward with excitement:

We have the opportunity to make waves in premier cricket, I am genuinely excited by what lies ahead, and the future is bright.

There is no time like the present, there is no substitute for hard work and there are no barriers to what we can achieve.

Thank you

Go Hawks!

James Miller - Coach

JUNIOR REPORT:

Kingston-Hawthorn Junior club are in a rebuilding phase with two under 12 teams currently playing in the SECA, two T20Blast! Teams and 80+ Milo In2Cricket participants. As these kids continue on their cricket journey, we will see more teams in more age groups. With the support of the Committee, the pathway in place at Kingston-Hawthorn should see the club placed as the go to club for juniors over the coming years. Thank you to the committee for the ongoing support especially Phil O’Meara and John Noonan. Steve McMahon Junior Coordinator.

Under 12C The U12C’s consisted mostly of children in their second year of competitive cricket. Most of the boys played 1 day games last season so coming to 2 day games with concentration required for 40 overs at a time sometimes proved a challenge. The improvement over the course of the season in this aspect was dramatic evidenced by a much improved 2nd half of the season. Ultimately we just missed out on the finals which could arguably be put down to a washed out game against the bottom side that we would have been a good chance to win. Trophy winners for the season were:

Batting- Joseph McMahon with the Bradmanesque average of 123.00. Joseph was dismissed only once for the year and posted his maiden 50 scoring a magnificent 50* against CHAG in Round 4

Bowling- Kane McInerney with the impressive average of 7.57 and best bowling of 3 overs 1 maiden 2-1 against West Bentleigh in Round 3.

Fielding- William Toohey. Comes from a Rugby background and has the maniacal courage shown in that game. Took great catches and effected multiple direct hit run outs often using his body (or face!) to stop the ball if necessary!

Most Improved- Charlie Wilce took a huge step this year and was in the running for the batting average up until the last innings. A solid hitter with a great eye backed up with reliable bowling and fielding.

Coaches Award- Romolo Esposito is very easy to coach. Does what he’s asked on and off the field and lives for Cricket, at least in summer! Thanks to team manager Helen Toohey who ran the team brilliantly and to all parents who helped out with scoring, BBQ’s, packing up etc. I’m looking forward to a big 2016-17!

Steve McMahon U12C Coach.

Under 12D U/12d's consisted of mainly 1st year players, with only 3 boys having played hard ball cricket previously. Our first game was a win against Mordialloc, then we had a bit of a down patch losing a few games before getting down to Walter Galt bottom oval prior to Christmas and having two great wins back to back. The boys all improved each week, we started off with way too many wides in the early games but with each training session and game the boys all started to click and by the end of the year we had every boy bowling consistently. Unfortunately, a quirk in our draw had us playing the top sides twice whilst not playing the bottom side at all, and we just missed the finals.

Congratulations to all the boys on a fantastic year which I thoroughly enjoyed. Special mention to Corey Cater on a great year capped off with the batting and bowling average and highest score, archer Reid on the fielding award, Callum Bruce on the coaches award, and Luke Sullivan on the best bowling in a game. I hope all the boys come back for another crack next year. Chris Sullivan – 12D Coach

T20Blast We had two teams in T20Blast! Playing games on a Saturday morning at Mordialloc. The boys had a great time and got a taste of competitive cricket which will hopefully lead on to them playing hard ball cricket in the following seasons. Thanks to all the parents who assisted with setting up and supporting the boys. Tony White – Co-ordinator

In2Cricket This was our first year under the Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club banner. We had 71 players register with 12 girls joining the program. As was our tradition, we ran the program on Friday nights and this year we had an extended period of 14 sessions. Programs were designed to have fun & rotate exercises, whilst incorporating the learning skills of the game. My thanks to the Players, Fathers & Mothers who assisted me in running the programs. Special thanks to Greg McLeod, Brett Sebire & Mark Ruddy for their regular appearances in running the BBQ &

to Andrew Greenwood for his support behind the bar. Overall our numbers remain strong. Friday nights have been successful with great role up from the Parents. Trust all the boys and girls enjoyed the sessions. Phil O'Meara - Co-Ordinator

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to James Miller on making the CV Premier Firsts Team of the Season.

Congratulations to Rohan Best and Tom Collett on their selection in the Victorian side for the National Indigenous Cricket

Championship.

Congratulations to Rohan Best on his selection in the National Indigenous Cricket Championship Men's Team of the tournament!

Congratulations to Ryan Ninan on being chosen for the Premier All-stars in the lead up to the Big Bash to play against the Stars and the

Renegades.

Congratulations to Dulnath Hendawitharana on being selected to represent Victoria at the 2016 Secondary Schools Australia 15 &

Under National Championship.

Congratulations to Corey Cater winning SECA Bowling Average under 12 D.

Congratulations to our award winners last season

o Lachie Inglis for Peter Corboy (Coaches) award: Peter Corboy was a life member as well as a founding member of Old

Collegians in 1961. Non player who prepared wicket, supplied afternoon teas and scored, was a committee man and

delegate, would help out wherever it was needed and was named “best clubman” 3 times. Passed away in 2012. Peter was

best known for bad jokes – A good Segway for this year’s winner, not bad on a joke but more importantly, when something

needed to be done, this was the go to guy – often to find out he’d already done it. Packing warm up kits, whereabouts of

balls and ramps, scorebooks, all that stuff as a first year coach (Playing coach) I had no idea about (still have no idea about).

Without Lachie there may well have been Mayhem! Congrats Lachie, and thank you for all you do.

o Jordy McCulley for best under21 (Gerard Robertson – Stephen King Trophy): My criteria for this simple. Improvement from

first meeting until now, Enthusiasm and what he brings to those around him, and potential to continue onwards and upwards

in Premier Cricket. Congratulations & use this as a building block to a bright future & KHCC.
