Can you think of different types of weather and match them up with different feelings that Emily experiences? For example, it is sunny when she is happy.

What is your favourite type of weather and why? Do Emily’s powers work without the umbrella? Do Emily’s parents have similar powers do you think? What problems/benefits are there to Emily’s powers?

Write a short story about Emily, who she is, where she is, where she goes, what problems she runs into and how they are resolved.

Story starter! You could start your story like this, or any other way you want…

Ever since she was little, Emily could control the weather. Whenever she felt sad it started to rain…

Weekly ScienceEveryday MaterialsKey Vocabulary: rough/smooth, flat/bumpy, sharp/blunt, wood, metal, plastic, glass, rock, materials, propertiesDiscuss the meaning of the words above.Establish that the word ‘material’ does not mean that objects are made from cloth/fabric (material) but that the word 'material' refers to the matter from which a thing is made. Encourage the children to use the word 'material' when discussing the objects, and the terms wood, plastic, glass and metal. What useful properties do those materials have to make them the best for the job?TASK 1Using a camera or by sketching, can you find a material and record it. You may choose to give them a time limit to this challenge. For example, you could say: You have 5 minutes to find 3 objects made of metal and sketch them.

TASK 2Write down 4 labels and place them on the floor ('wood', 'plastic', 'metal' and 'glass'). In your homes, can you find at least 1 object that matches with the material?CHALLENGE
