Celebration Time at Noah’s Ark

There is lots of cause for celebration as children and adults alike contemplate God’s love in sending His Son into the world as we celebrate a year’s growth at Noah’s Ark, and enjoy some magic tricks with Isaac’s dad, “Awesome Adam”.

Thank you mums and dads for entrusting your children into our care.

Parenting with PowerScripture of the week: Do not con-

form to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.

~ Romans 12:2

Everyone is doing it!“But mum, everyone’s doing it!” Has your child ever come

to you and made the statement “Everyone’s doing it,” to get you to give in to a request? Children use all kinds of tactics to get permission for things parents would rather not say ‘yes’ to. There are three things you need to keep in mind when you are challenged with that statement.

1. Sometimes children believe that appropriate behaviour is determined by the culture they live in and the values held by it. Rather, the rules you set up in your home are based upon the values you hold. Different families have different values so as parents we need to decide what values and convictions we are going to use to determine the rules and expectations for our own families. Don’t allow popular culture to dictate the values and expectations in your family.

2. Not everyone else is doing it. There are many families that set guidelines similar to, or even stricter, than yours. Children have a tendency to find more permissive families to compare themselves to, so they can ask for more.

3. Recognise that this statement is a manipulative tech-nique. It makes us feel like we are depriving our children of something. Parenting is hard work and too many parents are unwilling to take a stand for what is right and for values that are wholesome, healthy and biblical.

Don’t let your children push your buttons with the state-ment, “Everyone’s doing it.” Instead, use the opportunity to teach them about your convictions and the values behind the rules you set.

Strategy for the week:Peers influence your child’s life and that influence can be posi-

tive or negative. Discuss with your child what their friends’ values are which will highlight what kind of influence your child is un-der and how their thinking and values may be affected by their peers. Christmas holidays are a perfect time to have some discus-sions with your children on their values and their peers’ values. Have a blessed time of communication and relationship build-ing with a wonderful Christmas enjoying the blessing of our Lord and Saviour.

SecondaryChristmas Tidings

Wow, not long now to the first of De-cember which means decorating the house and Christmas tree. It is always such fun. We have a new addition to the family this Christmas – it is the first Christmas for our grandson.

The year has flown by. Even the students say how quickly the year has passed by. Many have had a great year. They have had a very happy and successful time at King’s. However, I know they are looking forward to the holidays, as are the staff.

As we enjoy being with family and friends this Christmas and sharing gifts and meals, let us be ever mindful of the reason for the celebration. I thought I would share this story with you -

The Christmas Carpenter From Nazareth! One of the “joys” of Christmas is “Toy Assembly 101.” Late

Christmas Eve, you take “it” out of the box - whatever “it” is - read the so-called simple instructions ALWAYS including the magic words, “No assembly required” OR “Easy assembly instructions enclosed” - and the fun begins! You can’t find all the parts, the parts don’t fit together, you read and re-read and re-read the di-rections, you count and re-count and RE-count the parts, you hit your left thumb with the hammer held by your right thumb - you let out a scream - and the nightmare begins! Remember?

Two thousand years ago, a carpenter’s life was turned upside down by the news that his betrothed was with child - not his! The child was the Son of God, promised by prophets of old, and Joseph was about to become the early caregiver of the Lord Jesus Christ. And loving caregiver, I can imagine, this carpenter was - can you see him making wooden toys for little boy Jesus? Can you see him patiently showing young teen Jesus the “tricks of the trade,” so He too, could become a GOOD carpenter from Nazareth?

Jesus, the CARPENTER? - Joseph, you better forget the dreams you hold in your heart for this young charge - God has bigger dreams for Him! But wait...those plans STILL include being a car-penter - His shop has just been relocated to heaven’s halls!

He’s the heavenly carpenter who puts things together, who fixes what’s wrong, who makes it brand new....who can take the broken things of your life, reassemble and restore all the pieces, and bring love and joy back to your life. AND like all good car-penters, He knows how to “hit the nail on the head”.... whatever you need, whatever repair is in order, you can open His Word and find the precise word you need to hear from His holy lips. The an-swer may be in a song or verse or a “word in season” from a friend that finds its way into your heart - and you KNOW the carpenter has been at work! His shop never closes - there’s no charge for His services - and He does incredible work!

Now believe it! Let the Christmas carpenter, skillful workman in your life, have full control. Give Him all the broken pieces - He wants to fix whatever’s wrong, to assemble all the parts, put them back in working order, and place YOU on display before the world as a heavenly-crafted person, repaired and renewed by heaven’s Workman, the Christmas carpenter from Nazareth who is YOUR Saviour and Lord.

No fear!Quote from Power New Testament

Some people are terrified by the fear of failure. “If I can’t win, I will not run!” Others can compete with reckless abandon know-ing: “The Lord helps me! Why should I be afraid of what people can do to me?” Count on it!

The APS summer season competition has now come to a close and we are pleased to announce that four of our teams complet-ed the season undefeated.

Congratulations go to:Senior A girls softball coached by Mrs Cullen (nee Hess)Senior A boys European handball coached by Mr MalcolmJunior A boys European handball coached by Mr GengeJunior A boys touch football coached by Mr Wilson

All four teams finished the season without loosing a game and these teams’ achievements were recognised at our last assembly on Wednesday where all team members received a special ‘Unde-feated’ college pennant.

Due to excessive rain fall, the APS winter season was cut quite short this year with only three or four games being played from the seven weeks of competition. Consequently, it was not ap-propriate to award ‘Undefeated’ status to our teams. We would, however, like to honour the teams that did not lose a game for the short winter season:

On 16th November King’s sent two teams to compete in the very first Gold Coast ‘All schools’ seven-a-side rugby tournament. This competition was run by Rugby Gold Coast and was open to all schools across the Gold Coast. King’s entered an Under 14 and Under 16’s team. The boys performed exceptionally well on the field and their behaviour off the field also did the College proud. We competed against Pacific Pines SHS, Merrimac SHS, Marymount College and Lindisfarne Anglican School. In the U 16s King’s was undefeated and won the competition while in the U14s the boys finished in second place only losing one game! It was a great day for King’s and for King’s Rugby and it meant a lot to the boys who have been putting in the extra training both before and after school over this past semester!

Farewell Year of RapportOn Thursday night 17 November our Year 12 students attend-

ed their Graduation Dinner with their family and teaching staff. It was a lovely night when we celebrated the end of twelve or thir-teen years of schooling. Twenty-two students have been at King’s since Noah’s Ark days. We were entertained by the Year 12 Drama class, the Music class, the Dance class and the Prefects. These young people have such talent and made the night so enjoyable. Speeches were made by Mr Davis, Mr Knight, Jimmi Bansal and Eliza Damianopolous. There were tears.

On Friday the Year 12s joined the staff for morning tea – a time to say farewell and to express their thanks – which so many of them did. There were tears and hugging and laughter as they reminisced.

It was then time to take a deep breath and go through the FAREWELL TUNNEL. This is formed by all year levels in the col-lege. It begins in the high school with Year 11 students then makes its way down to the front of the school finishing with Year

1 students. Oh and there were tears and hugging and high fives as they were farewelled by students and staff.

This is a fabulous group of students and we will miss them. We pray God’s richest blessings over them and may life be all they hope for it to be. Farewell Year of Rapport.

From King’s P&FIt has been an amazing year for the P&F! 2011 just flew right

by didn’t it?The Parents and Friends of King’s is primarily about Friend Rais-

ing rather than Fund Raising, During the school year the P&F has participated actively in organising the Easter Arts Festival, Carni-val Day, gifts and awards for students and the Christmas Carols. The P&F also provided funds to help boost resources for the 2012 primary literacy program; to help the King’s Community Support Agency provide Christmas hampers; and to support King’s Kids Uganda.

To learn more about the P&F, I encourage all parents whose child or children will be at King’s in 2012, to attend our meetings next year, the dates and times of which will be announced in the school newsletter and on the school website in the New Year. I
