KINGS OF LEON
HISTORY OF THE ARTIST
Kings of Leon started as an indie band who performed small shows in
bars in front of small groups of people. As their popularity with audiences
and critics began to grow they received recognition from a number of
record labels but signed with RCA an independent record label. They
eventually worked their way up and signed to Sony music entertainment
,an American owned corporation controlled by Sony corporation of
America. The band found difficulty in becoming popular is the US, and
only ever received major success after the release of the single sex on
fire, but were immediately embraced in Europe. Their album Youth and
Manhood sold 765,000 copies, and over 400,000 of those would be in
the UK.
HOW THEY HAVE BEEN MARKETED
A contemporary way Kings of Leon have been marketed is through online sites
such as Hulkshare ,which provided access to industry professionals ,who have
promoted kings of Leon's music online. This makes there music easily
accessible to a broad audience as the information can be accessed world wide
and it makes it simple for young audiences who frequently use the internet for
music purposes.
Launch parties have also been a key promotion tool for the kings of Leon due to
their target audience being people who are fans of rock music and
stereotypically enjoy loud music and dancing thus a launch party sets the scene.
They receive many sponsors from companies such as Kodak which allow them
to host competitions to create buzz for the target audience. Kodak appeals to
the target audience of the kings of Leon as fans might wish to use the camera
when at a concert and also it is likely the band uses the cameras themselves
which create a form of connection between the band and fans.
Their album is the main image on the
bands official website which allows
viral marketing and ensures fans are
aware of the upcoming album.
Kings of Leon sell

HOW THEIR IMAGE HAS CHANGED
Through their appearance the kings of Leon were first represented as your typical
teenage rock band from the 90’s wearing logo shirts such as jack Daniels to portray
their youth. As they have got older they are represented as a more glamorous and
mature band through their formal clothing choices such as suits and neatly styled hair.
This could be a result of their fame and also their record company as they have
become popular within audiences they have been marketed as a more mainstream
band and thus their appearance has the meet the expectations of that image.
