Our Heritage

A Three-Year Capital Campaign Preserving our past while looking

into the future.

A drive for pledges to our three- year capi-tal campaign will begin on Sunday, April 23, 2017 and will conclude on Sunday, May 7, 2017. The purpose of the cam-paign is to help pay down the debt owed by the church on the Family Life Center, the elevator in the education building, the handicapped walkway and the addition of property. We currently owe just over $500,000. The monthly payment is ap-proximately $6,300. Although this three year commitment will not pay off all of our debt, it will make a nice dent in what we owe. The Stewardship committee plans for all of our debt to be paid off in ten to fifteen years.

Our goal is to receive monthly pledges totaling $7000. This would equal $84,000 a year, with a three- year total of $252,000. We plan to use $6300 of this monthly amount to cover our mortgage payments and possible changes of the interest rate, with the remaining amount used for needed repairs and improve-ments. We typically have 100 family units make pledge commitments. If 70 of these families pledge $100 or more per month, we could easily meet our goal.

Letters and pledge cards will be mailed on the 24th. You can mail back your pledge or bring it to church. Pledges made in Octo-

ber were for the general fund. This capital campaign is an additional pledge. Howev-er, if you have already pledged for the capital campaign during the general cam-paign in October, please indicate that on the pledge card. If you have any ques-tions, feel free to contact the church office.

In 1922 the home missions committee of Central Christian Church recommended the corner of Line and Kings Highway for the formation of a new church. Construc-tion of the sanctuary was completed four years later at a cost of $106,000. Debt on the building was paid off during the 25th anniversary. An education building and chapel were added in 1953 and a chil-dren’s building in 1969. In 1990 Kings Highway Christian was the 28th site in Shreveport to be put on the National Reg-ister of Historic Places. In the late 1990s the Family Life Center was built. As quot-ed from our website, “The buildings are only a shell of the church and while the history of our facilities are simple to report, there is no way to quickly sum up the history of the church as a community. As friends and members of Kings Highway Christian Church we are part of something much greater than ourselves: a line of serving and worshipping Christians stretching back 94 years.”

News From The River: The children really enjoyed “The Easter Story” lesson. They made beaded crosses and Carolyn Brewer talked to the

children about the “Empty Tomb”. Thanks to Theresa Bass, Bill & Kay Shaw and Barbara Peyton for their help. Our next

lesson is “The Ascension on April 23rd, 30th and May 7th. Carol Pabst will be doing some science experiments! Yeah!
