1 Samuel 13:5The Philistines gathered to fight Israel with 3,000 chariots and 6,000 charioteers.
Raiding parties of Philistines were destroying the nation of Israel.
1 Samuel 13:20So the Israelites would go down to the Philistines to get their plowshares,mattocks, axes, and sickles sharpened.
1 Samuel 13:22So no one in the army had a sword or a spear. Only Saul and his son Jonathan had them.
1 Samuel 13:6When the Israelites saw how desperate their situation was, the people were distressed and hid themselves in caves, thickets, rocks, wells, and cisterns.

Earthly battles were never just about earthly battles.

1 Samuel 14:11-12So the two of them revealed themselves to the Philistine garrison, and the Philistines said, 'Look, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they were hiding,' and 'Come up to us and we will show you something.'
Not safe. Not smart. But it is God.

1 Samuel 14:22When the Israelites hiding in the highlands of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were on the run, they chased after to fight them.
