Almost every culture in human history has had a concept of gods

The presence of gods has historically “explained” the inexplicable.

Gods have more power than humans, and must therefore be appeased

Exodus 12:12

“On all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgements: I am Yahweh”

Supremacy

God introduces His power over the other gods

If they were to be feared, He is to be feared more

Providence

God has invited His people into the desert

He has the creative and providential power to care for them

Redemption

The gods were something to be feared

God has delivered them from the powers that incited fear!
