learning
journey“Friends you make while in college are the people you can count on for anything.”
Someone once said
without experience is just
information. At King, we take
that sentiment very seriously.
We believe
happens when you go
looking for the answers.
Everything we do is geared to a
of learning. Your quest
for knowledge begins here.
Professor Annie Remillard with students after class
You never know what path your life and career may take. So at King,
we help you develop awareness and insight to evaluate
the road ahead. Your academic advisor will help you develop a four-year plan for achieving your goals.
Select from more than 80 academic programs, including “hot”
career fields such as forensic science, neuroscience,
digital media, and sports management.
the capstone projectYour time at King will culminate with our distinctive senior capstone
course, which brings together students from different disciplines. As a
group, you’ll contemplate and debate issues related to current events.
This will be a fun opportunity to share the perspectives and experiences
you’ve gained over the past four years with a group of your peers.
F o r K n o w l e d g e
Whenever possible, King faculty involve their students in exciting, forward- thinking research activities.
• Study the solar orbits of asteroids and a star cluster of astrophysical interest • Engage in frontline research into the effect of pesticides on human biology • Map the growth and life-cycle of algae and other single-celled organisms in local wetlands
your personal tour guides The faculty will be there to guide you throughout your educational excursion. They
are a dedicated group holding high distinctions in their
respective fields. They each have exceptional professional—as well as personal—
experiences to share.
Don’t be surprised when your professor provides his or her home and cell phone
numbers. Yes, they’re that eager to assist and advise. Their approach to teaching relies
not so much on memorization and testing, as on challenging you to find the answers for yourself.

As you begin this journey, don’t be afraid to
ask for guidance along the way. You will have
a student liaison to lend
support with questions related to registration
and records, student affairs, billing, financial
aid, and information technology. If you need help with schedule changes, housing,
payment plans, or even network account
creation throughout the year, your student
liaison is there to offer assistance.
In addition to working with your student
liaison during your entire time at King College,
you will also work with your major advisor. Your major advisor will offer
guidance related to decisions regarding cur-
ricular choices, internships, graduate school
options, and career planning, as well as provide
academic support.“Never be afraid to ask for help, and always seek out advice.”

King offers more off-campus opportunities than most schools our size.
Every year, more than a quarter of our traditional undergraduate
students travel off campus with professors and fellow students for
study abroad, missions, and community service activities.
Be engaged in thought-provoking discussions.
Be exposed to intriguing debates.
Be introduced to inspiring people and places.
Recent students have seen the world by:
• Spending a month in the Tuscan city of Montepulciano, Italy, to study language, art, culture, and ancient history
• Assisting with leadership training, youth camps, and service ministry in Kenya and Tanzania
travel abroad

King students love getting out and getting involved. Whether it’s a campus outing,
snowboarding in the mountains, performing in our popular “Sing for Your Books” event,
or joining a team and “working the race” at Bristol’s NASCAR Motor Speedway—it’s
practically a given that you’ll be involved in many things while at King.
The Student Life and Activities Committee at King (SLACK) and the Student
Government Association (SGA) keep so much going on around campus— you’ll have
more to do than time to do it.

When you visit King College, be sure to check
out the Dining Hall and the King’s Den. Many
schools say their food is good. However, at
King, it’s really true. The Dining Hall— a mini
food mall, actually — is open seven days a week
and is where you’ll eat most of your regular
meals. The King’s Den is a popular late night
study spot and hangout. Grab a quick snack,
drink, or light meal on your way to class, the
gym, or a study session.

You can expect great things from a King education. We’ll help
you jump-start your career interests and
provide the kind of assistance that helps keep you on schedule.
You will be more than ready for the world when
you graduate. Washington Monthly ranked King one of the best
colleges in the country, based on our graduates’ “actual
contribution to the country.”

graduate successHere are just a few things to consider when it comes to the success of King graduates:

• During the last three years, an average of 85 percent of graduates seeking employment were employed within their major field six months after graduation. King students have started careers with impressive organizations in the region and across the country, such as:
• AirTran Airways • Eastman Chemical Company • Federal Pacific • Johns Hopkins • King Pharmaceuticals
• Of the King graduates who choose to continue their education, 80 percent are accepted into their first choice of some of the top graduate and professional schools in the nation, including:

mission tripsOpportunities to serve others and be a witness for
Christ don’t end when you leave campus. As a King student, you
will have the chance to do mission work both overseas and in
the community. Teams of students travel during
spring and summer breaks, performing service work in places as
close as New York City and as far as Africa.
King is a faith-based institution where you are
free to explore your spirituality, and we give
you the space to do so on your own terms.
One way of doing this is through Chapel, Con-
vocation, and Service (CCS). You’ll complete
14 credits of CCS per semester toward your
degree—and you have the freedom to choose
how you reflect upon, and develop your per-
sonal faith. You can focus on one or a mixture
of the three basic areas:
• Chapel is a brief Wednesday session of
community worship.
• Convocation, known as the Buechner
Lecture Series, features significant speakers
from all walks of life who give you weekly
insight into a broad range of issues.
Recent speakers include:
— Thomas Lynch: famed essayist, poet and funeral director — Morten Lauridsen: grammy-nominated composer — Bert Bertelkamp: UT Vols radio color analyst — William P. Young: author of critically acclaimed novel, The Shack
• Service to others can take almost any form
including Habitat for Humanity, Coats for
Kids, and Operation Christmas Child.
“Don’t trust your first impressions of people. Get to know them and try to learn from them.”
F o r u n d e r s T A n d i n g
When you consider all the opportunities for personal
growth, the access to faculty and resources, career
networking, and leadership opportunities — all backed
by highly regarded degrees and national rankings,
the value of a King College education becomes obvious.
