Kindle Voyage vs Paperwhite
Kindle Voyage vs Paperwhite Kindle Voyage vs Paperwhite Kindle Voyage ReviewKindle Voyage ReviewKindle Voyage Review
The Kindle Voyage is the newest model on Amazons line of e-readers It is the lightest has the best resolution and contrast improved built-in lighting a flush glazing glass front and dedicated page-turn buttons Although not a huge upgrade over the Kindle Paperwhite it costs considerably more Want to buy a case Its not included and it will cost you extra So even though this is the best Amazon e-reader and possibly best e-reader anywhere it doesnt come cheap

This is Amazonrsquos smallest kindle to date It just has a thickness of 76mm making it 15mm slimmer than the Kindle Paperwhite but is also smaller and lighter The intention of the designers was to make it as comfortable to hold and operate using one hand as possible Actually the ambition of David Limp vice president of Amazon Kindle goes beyond this One day he hopes to make Kindle as slim as a single sheet of paper Well since 76 millimeters corresponds to about 150 pages of standard printer paper this goal sounds rather lofty But with the way that technology defies fiction these days who says it wonrsquot be possible soon
Display
Many would say that improvements on how the Kindle White displays content IS its strongest selling point and I would tend to agree Its screen resolution is at 300 ppi (pixels per inch) which is way higher than the Paperwhitersquos of only 212 ppi This difference is experienced as text that is sharper and having higher black-on-white contrast Even when font is set to the smallest size it is easy to read and you do not have to squint The goal of the company was to bring E Reader text close to printed paper quality and with the E Reader Voyage they have either succeeded or brought it to the closest point yet
Another improvement has to do with the quality of the glass itself The display uses micro-etched glass which creates two interesting effects It diffuses light so that glare a major annoyance to vision is eliminated but it also creates a tactile sensation similar to that coming from printed paper It feels nicer than a glossy pane thatrsquos for sure

Adaptive Light
Another impressive feature of the Amazon Kindle Voyage E Reader is its Adaptive Front Light It adjusts the brightness of the screen depending on the settings you have selected and the surrounding light For example if you take it to bed and the lights are turned off it will gradually lower its brightness at the same rate as your eyes become more sensitive to the darkness so that a constant comfort reading level is maintained Amazon reportedly invested a lot in fine tuning this feature
A side-by-side comparison between the Kindle Voyage and Kindle Paperwhite where the brightness of both had been turned to the maximum showed the Voyage screen to be brighter and sharper and also its light distribution more uniform throughout the screen area than the Paperwhitersquos
Page Turns
When it comes to turning pages you have a couple of options You can either touch the screen or you can use one of two pressure-sensitive buttons situated at key locations on the pane easy to reach by your fingers that will make the page turn when light pressure is applied The button that is shaped as a straight line will move the pages forward while the dot shaped one will roll them backwards Once a page has turned the Voyage will give you some tactile feedback on your finger which Amazon calls ldquoPagePressrdquo
Other Features
Amazon said it will add more software features to the Kindle Voyage and Kindle Voyage 3G including something called ldquoWord Wiserdquo I understand it to be similar to a text bubble popping up with the definition of a word you selected when you placed your finger on it for a couple of seconds But an even bigger deal is ldquoFamily Libraryrdquo something like Applersquos iTunes Home Sharing concept It lets family members with different Amazon accounts share various types of content with each other including ebooks

Kindle Voyage vs PaperwhiteSoftware
From a software standpoint they have the same number of features The Kindle Voyage has a couple of extra settings for the configuration of the press sensors From there you can adjust the feedback and the pressure of the Page Forward and Page Back buttons
Design
The Voyage is thinner than the Paperwhite The edges at the back are contoured and the top edge is plastic and shiny The power button is at the top and the USB port is at the bottom edge With the Paperwhite the power button is at the bottom The Voyage is a little bit thicker and heavier and its back is covered with a rubbery coating
Performance
The Voyage has double the RAM and the same processor They respond about the same but the Voyage does seem zippier at times Navigating the menus seems a bit faster on the Voyage too
Screen
The Voyage has a higher resolution screen You have 300 pixels per inch instead of the Paperwhitersquos 212 pixels per inch Colors are more crisp on the Voyage The screen seems whiter and text is darker than on the Paperwhite Another big difference is that the front of the Voyage Kindle is all level like a tablet The Paperwhite has an indented area where the glass is
Front Light
The Voyage has an auto-brightness setting Overall the brightness on the Voyage is brighter Both have really dim as well as really bright settings The Voyage has more of a white front light itrsquos more bright than the Paperwhitersquos The uniformity on the Paperwhite seems a little bit better On the Voyage there is a slightly brighter hue near the top corners The text is a little darker on the Voyage with the higher resolution screen than it is on the Paperwhite
