Kimberlin Khronicle Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church December 2018 Newsletter The Advent season is upon us! We wait in preparation and expectancy of the birth of our Savior! I challenge you this Christmas season to stop, breathe, and contemplate the true meaning of the season. I challenge you to stop because this is a busy season for most everyone. The youth are no different, we will be collecting Christmas cards on Sunday mornings beginning with November 28th through December 16th. After December 16th there will be no guarantee that your cards will be distributed by Christmas. If you would like to forgo all the Christmas cards, the youth will again this year be putting together a Christmas Greetings booklet. You can give those to either of us also before December 16th so we can have the booklet put together by the following week. With both we ask that you give a donation to the youth group, whatever you see fit. There will be no Sunday evening Gatherings for the month of December. However, the youth are encouraged to join us at Carols & Choirs on the 2nd and the Christmas Cantata on the 16th. On December 19th we will be joining TeamKid again this year for their Happy Birthday Jesus party from 6-7:30. Then on December 31st we will have our annual New Year's lock-in. It will be from 6pm on the 31st to 9am on the 1st. At our Gathering on November 18th we had a great time of fellowship and eating. We had the first of hopefully many Thanksgiving dinners together. We each shared something we are thankful for and lifted each other up in prayer. It was a great time to stop and thank God for the many blessings we recieve. We would like to thank you all for the opportunity we have to serve the church and God's Kingdom in this capacity. We have amazing teens and parents. We would again urge you, if you have not taken the time to get to know these teens, do so. You are missing a blessing. Blessings, Pastor Tyler & Leah

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD” – Proverbs 19:17

Dear Church Family,

What a joy it is to greet you for the first time as your new pastor through the pages of the Kimberlin Khronicle. I am excited as we embark on this new journey in following our Lord Jesus Christ.

As I sit and ponder my initial words, it is not surprising that words of thankfulness come forth. After all, Thanksgiving is only two days away…but it is not just that.

I really cannot say “thank you” enough to you all. Pam and I have lived in Scottsburg for all of four days now and we continue to be impressed by your care and thoughtfulness.

I am always cautious when I start listing folks to thank because I’m worried that I will omit someone. I’m going to risk it and if I do overlook you please accept my apologies and let me know so that I can correct it!

We really appreciate the work of the Pastoral Search Team—Joyce Ann Beckelheimer, Chris Beverly, Larry Blevins, Pastor Tyler Griffin, Mickey Hall, Amanda Hurt, Jim Kennedy—in seeking the Lord’s leadership, reaching out to us, and introducing us to you all. We enjoyed our time getting to know the “gang of Seven” as they displayed the hospitality and love of the Kimberlin Creek family to us.

I understand that work on the parsonage went on for a good year and a half. Again, I hope that I am not missing anyone, but I have been told that this includes Larry and Carol Fletcher, Mitch Gibson, Mike Gregg, Juanita Hobbs, Jim Kennedy, Mark McNeely, Lawrence Parks, and David Wells. From our first entry you can tell that it was a labor of love for them and we appreciate all their hard work.

Many of you are probably not aware that I brought a small load and Pam’s car over here during the first week of the month. This would not have been possible without the assistance of Pastor Tyler, Jerry and Juanita Hobbs, Judy Peacock, and David Wells who helped with the unloading. I would be remiss if I did not also mention Dan Cogley, a good friend of mine from Ohio, who supplied the trailer, took two days off from work, and drove over here with me!

It was a privilege to be invited to share Sunday dinner with Larry and Marcia Blevins on our first Lord’s Day with you all (this was in addition to Marcia’s mother being in the hospital). We enjoyed their hospitality immensely!

We are almost finished with the hauling portion of the move, but we do have to make a return trip for some items. It was a blessing from God when Pastor Tyler and Leah offered to go back with us to Ohio to make this happen!

Again, “thank you” just does not seem like enough to express our gratitude. Be assured that each of you is appreciated and loved by us already. We really do look forward to getting to know every one of you as we press forward in the worship and service of our Lord and Savior. With God’s Most Gracious Blessings, Pastor Tim.

We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. I Thessalonians 1:2

CHURCH CHALLENGE!! The youth are asking the other groups in the congregation to step up to the challenge and sign up for Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army at Walmart. The youth already have 2 dates planned to go and help raise money for the people of Scott County and now we are challenging the other groups to do the same. Who will accept the challenge? Combat, American Baptist Women, Deacons, Trustees, Praise Team, Choir, Sunday School, Board of Christian Ministry, Parents. If each group listed does just 4 hours a piece, that would be 40 hours of service to our community. Do you have 4 hours to spare this holiday season? -KCBC Youth Group

Hurry, just a few more shopping days. We must rehearse before the Christmas play. There are stockings to be stuffed. I wonder if we'll have enough. We've already spent too much anyway. It's hard to believe that December 2018 is upon us already. As hard as that is to believe, it is also exciting as this time of year is my favorite time of year. As a kid it seemed like Christmas would never get here. You spent all year trying to be good with hopes that when Christmas day rolled around you would hit the jackpot, or maybe at times you weren't so good, and you put on your tough act and pretended it didn't matter if you received any goodies or not. As I was thinking about this, I thought about that first Christmas that we read about in the Bible. I know that in our family when we have the whole family together, we all gather in the living room and my dad will get out his Bible, and all of the grandkids, and all of my siblings and our spouses will circle around as Dad reads the Christmas story. As I was thinking about this, I started thinking about what had went on before we break into Matthew chapter 1. There are approximately 400 years between the recordings of the Old Testament and the New Testament, this was a time when God was silent and it seemed that he had given up on his creation due to man's constant struggle to simply follow God's law. I can't help but think that during this time of silence from God that no doubt he was preparing the greatest Christmas gift that mankind will ever know all for the simple purpose of reconciling us back to Him. I also like to think in my simple mind that there were people that like myself as a kid had heard that a Messiah was coming and they tried there best to live in such a way that they would one day be able to witness this great gift, and be blessed by the outpouring of Love that God demonstrated by sending us his only Son, as that greatest gift that has ever been given to man. So, as we enter this Christmas season and it seems like we are so busy, try to remember to spend a little more love this Christmas, spend a little more time with family and friends, because it won't truly be a holiday unless you go out of your way, and spend a little more love this Christmas season.

Merry Christmas, Perry Stainbrook

CHOIR NEWS

This year we will be doing something a little different for our Christmas Cantata. Instead of being during a morning worship we will be having it on a Sunday evening with a pitch-in meal to follow. It will be the adult choir that will also feature the children on a few songs. We ask that you come and celebrate the birth of our King with us on December 16th at 5:00pm. Along with our Christmas Cantata, we are also going to be making this a time of service. The county jail is taking up donations of ramen noodles for the inmates. We ask, if you are able, to pick up a few cases of ramen noodles for us to give to the inmates for Christmas. They are wanting to get around 1300 packages of ramen noodles. It is just a small gesture to tell those who may be hurting, broken, lost, etc. that someone out there cares. So please join us for a night of Worship, Fellowship and Service. Thanks, Leah
