Thursday 25th June—Mid Year Reports Given Out Friday 26th June—Dami Beach Walk / End of Term Two Sunday 19th July—Provincial Government Day Monday 20th July— Term Three Starts Thursday 23rd July—National Remembrance Day

Dear Parents,

Here we are once again at the end of another term. As I sit in my office writing this letter I can hear the Rugby supporters in the school hall watching the second State of Origin match. A big thank you to the Parents & Friends for organising the BBQ.

Again we have had a very busy two weeks since my last letter to you.

On Tuesday of Week 9 two representatives of the SRC, Apolosa Lisio and Thershy Boromana, went up to

Valoka Health Centre to donate a cheque for K340 to the Valoka Eye Clinic. Mrs. Lisio accompanied us on the trip too as it was in Valoka that Apolosa was treated when he was ill three years ago. Apolosa was remembered by all the staff and very warmly welcomed. Thershy presented the cheque and the SRC were thanked for the donation. We were then given light refreshments before returning to school.

Last Friday we had the Parent Assembly hosted by the Primary section and we counted over a hundred parents at that event.

From the Principal ~ continued The Grade 9 MEEP course ended today and our students went out to Buluma Primary school to pass on the knowledge that they had gained at Mahonia.

I am told that they did very well and that it was a very worthwhile visit.

The MOSA netball and soccer tournament finished on Saturday of Week 8. KIS did very well in the final day's games winning all three netball games and one soccer game.

You might notice that some played in more than one team to make up the numbers.

I hope you all have a very enjoyable time over the school vacation and I look forward seeing you

all back on the 20th of July 2009. Ifor Jones - Principal

Grade 7 News The grade’s seven have been learning how to write letters.

Let’s read what Daphen wrote to her friend.

Kimbe International School,

Kimbe.

23rd June, 2009

Dear Jenny,

Thank you very much for your last letter. I’m sorry I haven’t written to you earlier. The post office was shut down for almost a week due to some problems. You asked ask me to send you a set of stamps showing the various wild birds which live in P.N.G, but I’m afraid I can’t. My collection of stamps ran out and I would have to wait another week in order to send you some. However, I’m sending a traditional mask from the Sepik area. I do hope you’d like it. There’s not much news from here since everything is just the same. Nothing much has changed. We hope there will be no power cuts, but it is likely that electricity will be cuts in some parts of town due to nonpayment of electricity bills. Our school had a holiday yester-day. I didn’t go anywhere because I was feeling ill. I’m feeling better now and I look forward to hearing from you.

Your friend

Daphen

In PD/ICT the grade 7’s have been looking at Problem Solving. They have identified some of the common behavioral problems faced in the school. Let’s look at Darius and how one of the groups has helped him to solve his own problem in a play form.

Grade 5 & 6 News Awards time.

Grade 5 / 6 have been counting their Merit awards, no one has won a prize from the inter house box yet, but as you see many pupils have collected points – enough for their Bronze award. Three pupils, Kayla Reimann, James Korerua and Nathan Tonar have even collected enough for their Sil-ver Award. Great work.

Buddy Reading.

Our class readers this term were the Spiderwick Chronicles. One that we all enjoyed very much. It also led to the pupils creating their own story books to share at Buddy Reading time with other classes.

In Design technology the children designed and made hand puppets and presented their group plays to grade 4 / 5.
