Congratulations to the past students of Killarney P-10 State School who were recognised for their effort at the recent WSHS Awards Night. Mrs Thompson shared with me that there were a few past Year 10 students in the award recipient list.

Enrolment 2020At this time of the year, we are planning class structures and staffing for the following year. In order for us to make informed decisions, it would be greatly appreciated if you could inform our school administration via [email protected] if there is a change to your child’s enrolment for 2020.

It’s all about attendance!Being Ready to Learn Every Day really does make a difference!

A reminder that our school target is 95%.

School NewsP-6 swimming this termThis term we are organising our school swimming a little differently. A letter about P-6 swimming is attached to this newsletter. You will note that swimming will occur over 3 weeks and will happen in the usual HPE time. All students need to contribute $5 towards their swimming lessons. Thanks to the P&C for continuing to subsidise and support this program.

The Captain’s RideThe Captain’s Ride is the cornerstone of the Steve Waugh Foundation’s annual fundraising campaign raising money for rare children’s diseases. This year the tour, consisting of 70 push bike riders, is travelling around Queensland beginning in Toowoomba and ending in the Binna Burra Mountains.

This Thursday the group will pass by our school. We have committed to providing a welcoming committee with our students interacting as they pass by. Students and staff will assemble in the front grassed area of the school at 10.30am for a picnic morning tea. While morning tea is happening the riders will pass by and the students will encourage them. Community members are welcome to join us!

The Killarnian 2019 Yearbook for sale soonWhat a great memory for families to have! The Killarnian 2019 Yearbook is a review of our year through a collection of articles and photos celebrating our wonderful school, our students, our staff and the community we connect with. It is currently available for pre-purchase for $15 a copy, with order forms at the school office for completion and payment. The magazine will be ready for sale at Killarney P-10 State School Awards Night.

Year 4/5 Peace Code PresentationThis week, the Year 4/5 class performed their Peace Code presentation for ‘Turn Things Around’ on parade. Everything in their performance came from student ideas which were collaboratively developed and discussed by the student group. Fantastic team work troops!

The song selection of ‘Try’ by Mandy Harvey was very apt for ‘Turn Things Around’. While researching the song, the class learnt that Mandy lost her hearing at age 18, which would be devastating for anyone, let along some who was as passionate about music as Mandy was. The class were inspired by the way Mandy turned things around – instead of giving up her passion for music, she found a way around the obstacle presented to her and continued her journey as a musician. Mandy performed her original composition ‘Try’ on America’s Got Talent and scored a gold buzzer hit from Simon Cowell! If you have a few minutes to spare, Year 4/5 urge you to search for ‘Try’ on YouTube and watch the clip – we think you will have goose bumps!

Year 4/5/6 Interschool SportFor the last three Fridays, students from Year 4-6 have been participating in teeball, softball and cricket against different Warwick schools. While we have had varying success with the results, one thing that has been very consistent is the high standard of behaviour and sportsmanship demonstrated by the ‘Killarney kids’. Thank you to the P&C for their contribution towards the cost of bus travel for the last two Fridays. This helps keep the parent contribution to a minimum.
