‘Ready Golf’

As and from 1st November 2016 Kilkenny Golf Club is now a “Ready Golf” Club.

“Ready Golf” is based on the concept that “If you are ready to play and it is safe to play – then just play”.

There are many guidelines that, if observed, can lead to improving the overall pace of play including:

1. Hitting a shot when safe to do so, if a player farther away, faces a challenging shot and is taking time to assess their options.

2. Hitting a shot when safe to do so, if you arrive at your ball and are ready to play and can do so without affecting, in any way, the other players in your group.

3. Shorter hitters playing first from the tee or fairway if longer hitters have to wait.

4. Except in match play, hitting a tee shot if the person with the honour is delayed in being ready to play.

5. Hitting a shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball.

6. Putting out, even if it means standing close to someone else’s line.

7. Hitting a shot if, a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still farthest from the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker.

8. When a player’s ball has gone over the back of a green, any player closer to the hole but chipping from the front of the green should play while the other player walks to their ball and assess their shot.

9. Marking scores upon immediate arrival at the next tee, except that the first player to tee off marks their card immediately after teeing.

10. When approaching a green placing clubs/trolleys/buggies in a location that is on the route to the next tee.

Note to Members for Gents Competitions: With the Club Major Competitions approaching (Captain’s & President’s Prizes), a timely reminder that they MUST have returned at least 3 Score cards from 18 Hole Competitions from their Home Club for the year in question.

12 Do & Don’t tips so as to avoid slow play

Before play:

1. As a courtesy to your playing partners do arrive at least 20 minutes before your appointed Tee Off time.

2. Do get your clubs & caddy car/trolley ready for play before check in. 3. Do check in and pay your entry fee.On the course & during play:

4. Do bring a divot mix bag with you and repair/replace your divots.

5. Be ready to tee-off on time, especially on the 1st Tee when it’s your turn.

6. Have your club selected and be ready to hit when it’s your turn. 7. Do bring your bag or buggy to the side of the green nearest to the

next tee before you putt. 8. Do not park trolleys or buggies at front of greens, on the green

aprons or on the surrounding collars of greens. 9. Play your part and do repair any pitch marks which you

see on the greens. 10. First person to ‘hole out’ takes responsibility for replacing the flag

in the hole after final putt.11. Do not loiter on green or at side of green. 12. Walk smartly off the green to next tee box.

In the interests of Health & Safety do NOT mark the score card at or near the green, wait until you get to the next tee box.

Your place on the course is “immediately behind the match in front of you and NOT in front of the match behind you”.

Think of others and play your part in making the round of golf an enjoyable experience for yourself and your fellow golfers also.

Please support your Club by availing of the clubs food & beverage services and our PRO Shop.

Thank You!

CODE OF ETIQUETTE

IntroductionIt is the aim of Kilkenny Golf Club to achieve excellence in the standard of our course; in the standard of golf; in the standard of our clubhouse. This aim cannot be achieved unless we have excellence in the standard of etiquette. Etiquette governs the Rules of best practice for conduct and behaviour throughout the club.

Golf is all about enjoyment of the game whether it is on a social or competitive basis. It is the duty of each member to know and observe the official Rules of Golf and the Code of Etiquette which can be obtained from the Secretary/Manager or Hon. Secretary. One should also be familiar with the Constitution Rules and Bye-Laws of the GUI and ILGU (as appropriate) together with the updated “Standard Scratch Score and Handicapping Scheme” which is operated under the Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU) and wherein are specified:

● The rights and obligations of KGC ● The rights and obligations of the Handicapping

Committee; ● The rights and obligations of individual players.

On the Course: 1. Slow Play: Because a small minority of members

constantly give rise to slow play, a ranger will be on duty.

● The ranger will note starting times of players and monitor pace on the golf course.

● Defaulters will, after initial warning, be reported to the Competitions Etiquette Committee.

● Late tee time arrivals may have to wait for new starting time.

● Starter instructions are final. 2. Lost Ball: Match following to be called through

without delay. Players should not leave the precincts of the course, in the interest of maintaining boundary fences.

3. If the match fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, it should allow the next following match to pass through.

4. Trolleys / Caddie Carts / Buggies are not permitted on tee boxes, greens or collar / apron of greens. Never take trolleys between putting green and bunkers.

● Never play down on players in front. ● Call “FORE” loudly if a wayward shot is played

towards other golfers or spectators.11. Always show respect and courtesy to fellow players. ● Don’t let emotions overrule your better judgement. ● Avoid wrong attitudes and wrong behaviour.

● Avoid vulgar, abusive or offensive language at all times (both on and off the course).

12. Always walk around roped off areas with trolleys.13. Always pick the ball out of the hole and never hook

out with a putter. Never stand right up to the rim of the hole.

14. Be tolerant of course staff carrying out essential work.

15. Use the divot mix provided on the tees for levelling and firming the damaged area.

16. Keep litter off the course and place in the appropriate waste and recycling bins, which are strategically placed around the course.

Priority on the Course:1. A singles match in any official club competition shall

Golden Rules to avoid Slow Play:

1. Be self-aware!• Monitor your position on the course relative to the

groups around you.

• Notice if the group behind you are constantly having to wait for your group to move on.

• Monitor your progress against the “time par” on the scorecard.

• Don’t fall behind your playing partners when walking down the fairway.

• If you have ever been told you are a slow player, consider the reason why.

2. Prepare in advance! Don’t wait until it is your turn to play before

assessing your lie, calculating distances, deciding on an appropriate club and choosing a line/target. Do all this while others are playing their shots.

3. Take 5 seconds less! If each player in a 3-ball (where the average number

of shots taken per round is 80) takes 5 seconds less per shot, the round would be completed 20 minutes quicker (240 shots x 5 seconds = 1200/60 = 20 minutes).

4. Remember - you are not a professional golfer! Tour professionals make their living from the game

and, understandably, may need to take slightly longer to assess their shots than club golfers.

Their skill level is such that certain detailed information will have a bearing on shot execution, and may require more time to assess.

Page 34: KILKENNY€¦ · Do bring a divot mix bag with you and repair/replace your divots. 5. Be ready to tee-off on time, especially on the 1st Tee when it’s your turn. 6. Have your club

This is not the case for the vast majority of club golfers and, therefore, it is unnecessary for them to prepare for their shots in the same way the professional golfer does.

The consequence of copying the professionals

is simply to increase the time taken to play each shot with no tangible benefit in performance.

So, the futile mimicking of professional golfers

should be avoided.

Disciplinary procedure for the non-return of cards

The Men’s Club Committee has implemented a new Club bye-law for all 2017 qualifying Club Singles Competitions. This is due to the consistently large volumes of no returns for singles competitions which, is having an adverse effect on our competition standard scratch and may in turn effect all our handicaps. In addition, it is causing undue delay when closing off competitions. All cards, in Club Singles Competitions (complete or not), must be returned in the designated score card box after being entered on the computer.

Members who are in breach of this rule will be suspended from the next Club Singles Competition. Members who are in breach of this rule, for a second time, will be suspended from the next TWO Club Singles Competitions and so on as the Committee decides.

In the event that the computer is not working, players must still return their cards and write a note on top of their card stating that the “computer is not working” quoting their G.U.I. swipe card number.
