“Pop Up,” Fast Assembly Boxes“Pop up” Fast Assembly Boxes have a strong ‘Crash Lock’ base making them quick to erect but strong enough for sending out fragile or heavy items. Fast and easy to assemble; simply turn the box upside down, gently press the opposite diagonal corners together and the box “pops” into place. Turn the box over, the base locks into place and is now ready to fill. The top of the box has standard flaps to close and seal with tape, apart from the archive box which has a tuck-in lid.

• Fast packing, easy fill• Solid base (Fefco style 0701) gives additional

protection and improved security• Good strength due to heavy duty fluting material • Tape is not required for sealing the bottom

Super Strong Single Wall Boxes Super Strong Boxes are a modern alternative to double wall boxes, suitable for sending heavy or fragile items. They are very strong single wall cases and offer a cost saving against double wall cases. Transport and storage costs are reduced as there are more boxes per pallet than the comparable size in double wall corrugated board.

High Performance Double Wall Boxes Heavy duty, high performance cases are designed for superior strength and rigidity to give protection for large products, heavier loads and for exporting. They are manufactured from premium grade double wall corrugated board; BC flute, 300gsm paper.

Pallet Packs A Pallet Pack is a sturdy transit box, consisting of a corrugated lid, sleeve and tray attached to a wooden pallet. The sleeve is folded and stored within the tray, allowing several pallet packs to be stacked on top of each other, optimising storage space.

Drop Fronted Pallet Box KitThe kit consists of a corrugated lid, sleeve and tray, supplied flat for assembly. The sleeve is perforated on the front panel to create a pull-down flap. The tray can be attached to a pallet and fits perfectly on a standard 1200x1000mm pallet.

A variety of materials are offered, from solid board through to heavy duty export grades and a full range of print finishes from standard flexographic, to high quality lithographic printing.

A bespoke design makes a good first impression and ensures optimum protection for your product, often eliminating the need for extra packaging fillers and protective wrappings. It also helps you to comply with the requirement of the Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 2003 to reduce packaging to a minimum. 2. What size do you need?Determine the size of box by measuring the length, width and depth of your product. Box dimensions are measured internally, length x width x depth.

3. Choose the materialYou can specify whether you require single wall or double wall corrugated and the board grade. If you are unsure of the material grade required, let us know the item being packed, the weight per box and how the item is stored and shipped. As a rough guideline please refer to the table below;

Choosing a packaging tapeAdhesive packaging tapes are stocked in a choice of different base materials, types of adhesives, colours and sizes. We can help you find the ideal tape for you;

Tapes


Storage and HandlingAdhesive tapes are best stored and applied in a clean environment. Tape should be stored ideally between 15-25oC, away from direct heat or light, and kept boxed on pallets or shelves.

The optimum temperature for use is 18-20oC. If tape is stored in a colder environment, it should be brought into the warmth before use.

When opening the box with a knife take care not to cut the rolls of tape inside. Damage to the roll edges, either by a knife blade or as a result of the roll being dropped, may cause the tape to tear when used. Avoid the tape splitting during application by using a tape dispenser and regularly replace the blade to ensure it stays clean and sharp.

Tape Printing & Conversion DivisionTape printed with a logo or message is an effective way to advertise and promote your brand, give information about the handling of your product, or differentiate items and shipments. Our in-house tape printing team in the Midlands has over 40 years’ experience in converting and printing packaging tapes see page 42 for further information.

Heavier Seal (H-closure)If a stronger seal is required, the tape is applied first to seal the flaps and then along the width of the box at both ends to form a ‘H’ seal. Apply filament tape around the box for extreme handling.

Sealing BoxesStandard Seal (U-closure)The tape adhesive will perform better if the surface is free from dust and dirt and if the dispenser is used to apply the correct pressure when sticking the tape firmly against the box or surface.

Unwind the tape firmly against the box allowing for an overlap of about 50mm to 70mm down the side of the box. For extra strength add tabs of tape either side of the U shape closure.

Tape SuitabilityThe performance of a packing tape is dependent upon its characteristics including the backing and adhesive. Other factors contributing to its effectiveness are; environmental conditions during application, storage and transportation; the board material quality of the box to be sealed; the weight and contents of the package. Premier Low Noise PolypropyleneThis is a superb high quality packaging tape which is often mistaken for vinyl tape because of its thick film, good quality solvent adhesive and the way it pulls slowly off the roll. The adhesive adheres well to a variety of surfaces and resists changes to temperature. The only practical difference from vinyl tape is it cannot be torn by hand.

Standard Polypropylene Low NoiseWith standard film thickness and acrylic adhesive, this is a popular low noise tape. It is not recommended for use in refrigerated areas due to the nature of the adhesive but does perform well in the more usual packing environments.

Standard Polypropylene TapeOur standard tape is a good general purpose packaging tape with a hot melt adhesive and quick release from the roll. Hot melt adhesive is made of synthetic rubbers and resins. It has a firm initial grab and long term tack and is often the adhesive of choice for sealing cartons with a high degree of recycled fibre.

It is also suitable for cold storage applications and is considered environmentally friendly as it contains only minute amounts of solvents.

Customising Your TapeThe Printing ProcessThe printing process is flexographic, the tape is printed as it moves in direct contact with a flexible plate. Flexographic is a versatile printing process with low origination costs and gives good results on this difficult printing surface.

Positive print is most commonly used, whereby the design is raised on the stereo and forms an impression on the tape. This is the technique used to print tapes such as ’Fragile’ where the red text is printed onto white tape. Alternatively a reverse block can be used; the text remains unprinted and the outline is flooded in a contrasting colour.

Up to three colours can be printed on polypropylene and vinyl tape, in solid colours or tints (tones). A wide selection of ink colours are kept in stock or alternatively you can request a bespoke colour to order. We are happy to arrange a visit to our production facility in the Midlands to see our printing capabilities and to assist you with your design ideas.

3. Choose a Design;Kilby Packaging can help you with your design ideas, including layout and recommended fonts. We can prepare your artwork, selecting the best repeat size to suit your design.

If you have a design prepared, the preferred formats are Adobe Illustrator, editable PDF or EPS but we can work with other file types if required. Fonts should be turned to outlines or have the font supplied and any placed images should be a minimum of 300dpi and supplied separately or embedded in the file. Tints are produced at 50 lines per inch and have a tone range of 8% to 70%. The image can appear once or multiple times within the repeated space. The repeat size available for the image including spaces are 251mm, 295mm or 383mm.

4. Choose Tape Colour;White or transparent tape is most commonly used to print upon. White gives good impact but transparent tape is effective in making your logo stand out on brown and white boxes. We also print on red, yellow and green vinyl tape. Alternatively white tape can be flood printed in a colour of your choice.

Tamper Evident TapeSelf-adhesive tamper evident tape has been developed to deter pilfering and provide tamper evidence. The tape separates permanently leaving behind a yellow void message if an attempt is made to remove it.

High Performance Tesa® filament tapes available

Filament Tape - MonoWoven glass fibre filaments run along the length of the roll which gives this tape its high strength properties. Filament tape is moisture resistant and can be used for sealing and reinforcing cases or banding heavy consignments.

Filament Tape - Cross WeaveThis filament tape is stronger than the mono tape as the filaments run both along the length of the roll and also across the width. It can be used for similar applications to mono but where even greater strength is required.

Strapping TapeThe mono-oriented polypropylene (MOPP) tape is an easy but effective way of banding and strapping. It has an orange, 72 micron film with a hot melt adhesive which gives it good strength and adhesive properties.

Medium Duty Strapping TapePossessing high tensile strength but with low elongation, this is a heavier weight polypropylene strapping tape. It is very resistant to high and low temperatures and due to the black backing, is extremely resistant to UV-light. Main applications are bundling of copper, iron and plastic pipes, palletising and coil tabbing.

Translucent Blue PVC Low Tack Protection TapeA thin, low tack, clean peal, PVC protection tape provides a translucent finish for applications that require both protection and the finished part being visible. Common applications are protection of number plates, lights, TV and monitor screens, components and finished goods during manufacturing, storing and delivery.

Ribbed PVC Protection TapeA low tack, UV resistant, PVC protection tape for masking off and protection during decorating and renovation, has a good resistance to low temperatures (-5°C to 60°C). The product has a ribbed finish to makes it easy to tear in a straight line and it can be removed cleanly up to four weeks after application.
