MESSENGER SPRING 2019 Community Health Network's partnership with MCIT was recognized as an Outstanding CTE Secondary Partnership at the Indiana Department of Education's annual CTE Awards for Excellence Recognition Program. The partnership between MCIT and Community Health Network (CHN) supports MCIT's Health Careers and Biomedical Programs. The programs have their own advisory board, which include multiple Community partners for each board. Both advisory boards are a blend of the at-large Community Health Network which includes representation from various settings including hospital administration, laboratory, clinical, physical therapy, research, emergency services and support staff of health care. Advisory boards provide MCIT students with different opportunities for student interaction and observation. A result of the annual shadowing opportunities has led to additional requests from CHN departments to bring MCIT students into local training programs that could lead to future employment opportunities. •Mari A. Swayne, contributor The Vincennes Early College Program opens the door for a residential college experience for McKenzie students at VU. The post- high school experience for Career and Technology Education is often a series of classes that students attend blended with work in the field. However, many students want the experience of being on a college campus. The Vincennes Early College program offers them that opportunity. Dr. Brent Stocksdale, Assistant Dean of Early College, is housed at McKenzie to help students enter and succeed through McKenzie and then through Vincennes. Vincennes selected four McKenzie programs to offer their Early College Program: Collision Repair, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts and the Information Technology Pathway classes— which include the Comptia Certifications and Cisco Academy taught by Mr. Kevin Kelly. Vincennes has also donated equipment to the program approaching $187,000. The equipment aligns the classes at McKenzie with the programs and labs at Vincennes to make the transition seamless between the two institutions. Additionally, Dr. Stocksdale helped senior Jacob Weaver receive a $1,250 scholarship and is working to establish his eligibility for a half-price or full room and board scholarship for two years at Vincennes.
