First there was a powerful wind from heaven – so loud it filled not just the room the apostles were in, but the whole house. Tongues of fire came to rest on their heads, and they suddenly began to speak in foreign languages as they were ‘filled with the Holy Spirit’. It must have been a chaotic, intense scene. The poem ‘Pentecost’ by 19th century poet William Blake captures some of the power of the scene, with its repetition of the phrase ‘catch fire’. When a piece of news or gossip gets around quickly, we say it ‘spreads like wildfire’. By its very nature, fire jumps from one things another, burning more intensely the more it spreads. The symbol of tongues of fire is apt, then. The arrival of the Holy Spirit propels the apostles from the room where they were huddled out into the street. They simply cannot contain themselves as they begin to preach and to spread the Good News far and wide – like wildfire. Volunteers: Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services is recruiting for Bereavement Support

Volunteers in Harold’s Cross and Blackrock.

No experience is necessary as full training will be provided. The training will commence in September for the duration of

University of Notre Dame Folk Choir Celebration:

The University of Notre Dame Folk Choir will give a concert in

the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Harold’s Cross on

Tuesday 31st May at 7.30pm. They will also run a workshop and

forum on Monday 30th May at 7.30pm; free workshop

collections of the Folk Choir’s repertoire will be given to all

participants. Workshop attendees sing with the choir the

following evening! Donations invited to the Society of St Vincent

On May 19th The Irish Catholic will run a special Legacy Supplement highlighting the

importance of making a will and the significant difference that can be made through making a legacy donation. This supplement will also feature the life of Mother

Theresa and her path to sainthood on September 4th of this year.

Project Messiah

To celebrate the 80th Birthday of Colin Mawby Project Messiah Chorus will sing Vivaldi Gloria with

orchestra and soloists. The Palestrina Choir will sing Colin Mawby Missa Caro Mea and the Pro-Cathedral

Girls’ Choir will sing Beatus Vir by Monteverdi. All forces will join together for the final rousing

movement of the Missa Caro Mea. Performance will take place on Thursday 23rd June at 7.30pm. in Our

Lady of Good Counsel, Mourne Road, Drimnagh, Dublin 12. Rehearsals will take place in Star of the Sea,

Sandymount on Thursdays 5th, 12th & 19th May/Thursdays 2nd, 9th & 16th June from 7.15 to 9.30pm -

each evening Score: Oxford University Press edition. Cost of participation €50 - Everyone is most

welcome to join and sing this wonderful concert even if you are a beginner. The only proviso is that

everyone attends the course of rehearsals.

The Annual Knights of St Columbanus St Oliver's Walk, visiting seven beautiful churches in Drogheda, will be held on both Friday May 27th and Saturday May 28th. The Camino style walk starts from Our Lady of Lourdes Church and follows a 3.2km route finishing at St Peter's

Church where the National Shrine of St Oliver Plunkett is located. Walkers can complete the walk at their own pace or even over the two days and they will get their Camino style passport stamped at each church. Full details on
