WHAT IS KIDNEY BIOPSYA kidney biopsy is a medical procedure in which a kidney tissue is extracted for the laboratory analysis.A kidney biopsy is also known as renal biopsy.A kidney biopsy is a diagnostic test which helps the doctor to identify the type of kidney disease a patient have.Some of the kidney diseases cannot be, identified with the help of a blood test or a urine test. Therefore, the kidney biopsy is performed to know the type of kidney disease.

The sample taken from the patients kidney is observed under the microscope to get detailed information about a kidney disease. There are two different ways to perform a kidney biopsy:

Percutaneous biopsy- In this procedure a doctor inserts a thin needle through the skin to remove the patients kidney tissue. To guide the needle to a specific area of the kidney, an ultrasound or CT scan is used.

Open biopsy- A small incision is made in the skin near the kidneys to remove a kidney tissue. This procedure is also known as needle biopsy.

WAYS TO PERFORM A KIDNEY BIOPSY

A kidney biopsy helps to find out:

Kidney tumour Condition of the kidneysIdentifying the kidney disease To know the abnormal level of toxins in the blood To know the results of kidney treatment To determine the cause of kidney disease

NEED OF KIDNEY BIOPSY

Before undergoing a kidney biopsy, tell your about the medications you have been taking and the treatments or any operation you have undergone. Also, tell your doctor about the vitamin supplements, herbal products, or other over the counter medicines you have been taking. If you are allergic to anything, inform your doctor in advance. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or might be pregnantAny infection

PREPARING FOR KIDNEY BIOPSY

There are also some precautions to be taken after the kidney biopsy procedure. This precaution reduces the risks of any other problem.

Bed rest for 1 day Avoid taking blood thinning medicinesCarefully follow the doctors instructionsContact doctor in if any serious symptoms occur

AFTER A KIDNEY BIOPSY

The tissue extracted from the patients kidney is observed in the laboratory. It takes 6 to 7 days to prepare a full biopsy report. A report will indicate whether the results are normal or abnormal. If, the kidneys are functioning properly and are free from deposits and other problems, then the results are normal. The results are considered abnormal if there is a change in the structure of the kidneys and harmful toxins are present in the kidneys. The abnormal kidneys are the indication of an infection, weakness, or cancer. RESULT OF KIDNEY BIOPSY
