CLUB WELCOME

Website: rcsfc.com.au Twitter: @RockdaleCitySFC Facebook: fb.com/Rockdale-City-Suns-Football-Club-Ilinden

Welcome everyone to this round 4 clash against the new boys on the block, Mt Druitt Town Rangers.

Despite dominating the game and creating countless chances, the football gods were not on our side last week against Hakoah. We are hoping to turn it around this week against Mt Druitt.

On a brighter note, our under 20’s made it two from two last week against Hakoah and will be searching for a hat trick of wins to start their campaign.

For our under 18’s, whilst they created chances, lapses in the backline cost them dearly last week and they will be intent on getting their season up and going this week.

Today we welcome some of our Junior players who will be watching the game and we wish them all the best for their season.

Once again, we would like to thank and acknowledge our wonderful sponsors:

MATCH PREVIEW

Rockdale City Suns will be desperate to forget last week’s horror defeat and will be determined to bounce back with a big win against Mount Druitt Town Rangers on Sunday.

Despite dominating almost all facets of the game, Rockdale went down 3-0 against Hakoah Sydney City East in what was best described as a smash and grab.

Coach Paul Reid was quick to reassure his players and without a doubt they will be motivated to make up for the shock loss last week.

Alec Urosevski was a standout performer against Hakoah and was very unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet.

Finishing in front of goal and making the most of chances will be a key topic at training this week for Rockdale.

Their opponent this week is a Mount Druitt side who is making the most of their new found top tier status after winning promotion from NPL 2 at the end of last season.

The Aidan Desmond coached side has held their own so far and none more so than an impressive fightback against Manly to snatch a 2-2 draw last week.

This week’s game will have extra meaning for winger Toufic Alameddine who faces off against his former Rockdale teammates for the first time.

Rockdale will not want a repeat of last round’s loss so expect them to be firing from the outset.

Mount Druitt showed they aren’t lacking any fighting spirit so they will be out to push their highly favoured opponents all the way.

1ST GRADE REVIEWS

Rockdale City Suns 0 – Hakoah Sydney City East 3 at Ilinden Sports Centre

Hakoah Sydney City East have stunned Rockdale City Suns 3-0 in a performance no better described than a smash and grab in their National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday.

It was an incredible result for the Eastern Suburbs based side as they survived wave after wave of Rockdale attack, and less than 30 per cent possession, to snatch three points and a second straight win.

A goal to Nathan Roberts against the run of play helped the visitors take a surprise lead after 40 minutes despite seeing little of the ball for the majority of the first half.

It was more of the same in the second stanza with Gauthier converting from the penalty spot to double Hakoah’s lead before securing victory with another at the death.

Ryan Norval was in inspired form for the visitors playing a major role in the win with a number of brilliant saves to deny Rockdale.

It was an unlikely result but one which is sure to be remembered by both sides long into the season.

Manly United 2 – Mount Druitt Town Rangers 2 at Cromer Park

Manly United and Mount Druitt Town Rangers have played out a dramatic 2-2 draw after a breathless second stanza saw in a storm-affected National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s fixture at Cromer Park on Saturday night.

In a clash that was originally scheduled to take place at Mt Druitt’s Popondetta Park, mother nature continued to wreak havoc as the devoted Northern Beaches crowd saw kick off delayed by over an hour due to nearby lightning.

And while the contest initially threatened to fizzle out into obscurity, a frenetic final forty-five minutes saw four goals scored in the space of sixteen minutes.

The visitors clawed back Manly on two occasions, as set piece strikes courtesy of Cooper Coskiere and Nick Trimble cancelled out a Brendan Cholakian brace.

It was a gutsy performance from Mount Druitt, who created their fair share of opportunities to win it despite losing three players to injury in the first half and being pinned back by a determined Manly side for extended periods.

U20’S MATCH PREVIEW

Rockdale City Suns lead the competition after only three weeks and could yet increase their advantage, having played one game less than Blacktown City below them.

After their Round 2 match against Marconi was washed out, Rockdale came out at Ilinden Sports Centre last weekend to beat Hakoah Sydney City East 3-0.

Having won both their fixtures in 2019, Rockdale will not feel threatened by the visit of Mt Druitt Town Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

Mt Druitt are experiencing a difficult start to the season, having lost to Blacktown City and Manly United before this week’s visit to the Ilinden Sports Centre. They will struggle to fancy their chances against one of 2019’s biggest contenders.
