Sutherland Sharks would like to welcome the players, officials & supporters of Mt Druitt Town Rangers to Seymour Shaw for our last home game of the year. We still have a mathematical chance of making the finals series but it is “a must win” situation tonight. Last week, against the league leaders Wollongong Wolves, was only the second time the Sharks have been outclassed during the year. Our attack will be strengthened with the reintroduction of Charles Lokolingoy who, with Jeremy Cox and Bai Antoniou will test the Ranger’s defence.
Coach Terry Palapanis has been unlucky to have key players unavailable at crucial times during the year due to players being taken by the Hyundai A-League or overseas, as well as long term injuries. After a horror start to the season our 10 game unbeaten run showed we can match it with any club in the league. We hope we can finish the season with three wins and give ourselves an outside chance of qualifying for the championship series.
The under 20’s have moved into clear second place and are closing in on the league leaders Blacktown. A win tonight will secure the Sharks a place in the all important top 3 for the play-offs. James Temelevski was again the centre of our attack with a superb goal and a “nutmeg assist”. The ever reliable Thomas Pappa received strong support from Charlie Jones, Jarad Wylie and James Carli who are performing consistently at a high level.
The under 18’s had a 2-2 draw with the Wolves in an impressive display. The young Sharks still remain a hope for the play offs but like the first grade it is most important to win today.
The half time entertainment today is brought to us by the Sharks under 8 Development squads. We thank the boys and their families for attending tonight. The under 10 SAP boys are also here tonight as ball boys. It is great to see the Shire’s younger brigade coming to watch the Seniors.
Let’s hope we are going to see another Sharks’ home Victory!

MATCH PREVIEWSutherland Sharks will be driven to keep their slim finals hopes alive when they host Mt Druitt Town Rangers on Saturday.
The Sharks have hit the skids in the past few weeks after their 10 game unbeaten streak came to an end in round 18.
The Terry Palapanis coached side will need to win all three of their final games if they are to have any chance of finishing in the top five.
The biggest concern for Palapanis will be finding a way to stop the goals after the Sharks conceded seven in their past two games.
The departure of Liam McGing has come at the worst time for Sutherland but they will need to make do against a Mt Druitt attack which has found success this season.
The Rangers come into the contest without a win in their last three matches.
Defence will be again the big question mark surrounding Aidan Desmond’s side who have conceded eight goals in two of their past three contests.
Mirjan Pavlovic and Fabricio Fernandez are a dangerous combination with the Uruguayan winning a place in the round 19 team of the week despite being in a losing side.
Fernandez’s trickery and distribution is a real weapon for Mt Druitt and with experienced striker Pavlovic up top they will be a good chance of scoring if given an opportunity.
Expect a high octane encounter which could easily go either way.

Wollongong Wolves 4 – Sutherland Sharks 0 at WIN Stadium
Wollongong Wolves are on the precipice of claiming the 2019 National Premier League NSW Men’s Premiership after a 4-0 win over Sutherland Sharks at WIN Stadium on Saturday evening.
Two goals in each half was enough to secure the result for the Wolves, who move within one point of claiming the Premiership with only three rounds remaining.
Despite both sides seeing solid opportunities go begging in the opening exchanges, it was the hosts who finally broke the deadlock in the 30th minute thanks to a goal from in-form striker Lachlan Scott. Darcy Madden scored ten minutes from the break to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
Scott turned provider early in the second half to set up Takeru Okada while Golden Boot leader Thomas James wrapped up the win with a 69th minute screamer.
Marconi Stallions 4 – Mt Druitt Town Rangers 2 at Marconi Stadium
Marconi Stallions have kept their finals hopes alive with a 4-2 win against Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Marconi Stadium on Saturday.
A brace to Martin Fernandez set the tone for Marconi before a Marko Jesic penalty and Nathan Milgate strike wrapped up the win for the home side.
Mt Druitt tried to fight back through a late first half goal to Jacob Esposito but it wasn’t to be while Fabricio Fernandez’s second half goal proved to be a mere consolation.
The result means Marconi temporarily moves into the top five on 26 points but will fall into sixth if Sydney Olympic taste victory on Sunday.

WOLLONGONG WOLVES
It is with great sadness that we pass on our condolences to the family of former Shark’s player Keith Schumann who passed away last Monday after a long illness. Keith was an integral part of the highly successful Sutherland teams in the late 70’s and early 80’s. He was an uncompromising and talented central defender who was selected by Rudi Guttendorf in an Australian X1 to play a Polish side in 1979. Keith was a Miranda Magpies junior who became a representative player at 16 and had ambition only to play for the Sutherland Sharks despite offers from NSL and state league clubs.
He had a magnetic personality, lived life to the fullest and looked adversity in the eye. His memory will live on for all who knew him.

U20’S MATCH PREVIEW
Sutherland would move top of the table – albeit temporarily – with a win over Mt Druitt on Saturday afternoon, with Blacktown City not playing until Sunday.
Overhauling Blacktown at the top seemed a near impossibility only a few months ago, yet Sutherland’s steady form – including a 2-0 win over Wollongong Wolves last weekend – combined with the leaders’ inconsistency has narrowed the gap in recent weeks.
The Sharks begin Round 20 just two points behind Blacktown, having played one game more.
Mt Druitt travel to Seymour Shaw on the back of a 3-1 win over Marconi; Riley Ellem and Ali Dulleh scoring for the Rangers as they won for the third time in a row.
They remain seven points off fifth, and would need to win their last three games while hoping for slips from Sydney Olympic and Rockdale above them to stand any chance of finals. It seems an unlikely prospect.

FEATURE STORYTHOMAS AQUILINA AND LACHLAN MACDONALD CHOSEN FOR
AUSTRALIA UNDER-20S AND UNDER-15S SQUAD
The Sutherland Sharks have earned recognition from national selectors with two of their young players chosen for international duty.
Lachlan Macdonald was selected for the Australia under-15s team to play in the Asean Football Federation under-15 Championship in Chonburi, Thailand.
The tournament starts on July 27 with Australia to face Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam and hosts Thailand in group B.
Lachlan has been with Sutherland since he was eight-years-old and at 15 his dedication to Sharks training has paid off with his Joeys selection thoroughly deserved.
Joeys head coach Trevor Morgan said the under-15s championships represented the start of this age group’s journey towards the under-17s World Cup in 2021.
“With a minimum of five and up to seven international matches over the two weeks of the tournament, the championships will give the players selected a great introduction to international football,” he said.
“Our time in Chonburi will also provide our staff with the chance to work on some key principles with the boys ahead of our 2020 AFC under-16s Championship qualifiers in Vietnam in September this year.”
Sharks first grader Thomas Aquilina has also been chosen in new Australia under-20s head coach Gary van Egmond’s inaugural 30-man squad for a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport later this month.
The players will assemble in Canberra on July 28 with Van Egmond to use the camp to select his 23-man squad for the AFF under-18 Championship in Vietnam in August.
The Young Socceroos will play Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and hosts Vietnam in group B.
Young Socceroos head coach van Egmond said the next month represented an opportunity for his chosen players to impress ahead of this year’s under-18 championships and the FIFA under-20s World Cup in 2021.
