Judith Mackaness has been seen around Neskowin and Pacific City since her early childhood when she spent summers on the coast with her fami-ly. Pacific City has been
her part-time residence since 2004 when with her partner and the help of several of her friends, she built their house on Rueppell Ave.
Art has always been a life-long interest and primary focus. After a professional art career with shows dating back into the early 1970s and work in numerous public collections, she is now happy to relax into the process and just make the art that pleases her.
She’s currently working with pastels and concentrating on the life around Pacific City with its scenery, birds, and sea crea-tures. We are featuring Judith's art work this month in our Gift Store. Stop by soon and check it out! ~ Julie

During the month of November we reflect on the
many things we are thankful for. At the Center one of the big things we are thankful for is our fantastic volunteers and especially our volunteer of the month,
Diana Sears.
She has been a loyal volunteer at the center since it began 25 years ago. Diana has wore many hats in the past: Board Member, Volunteer Coordinator, Bazaar Chairman, Front Desk, writes a regular column in our Kapers newsletter, Painting Class, wrote the Center’s history, advisor to the current Board, plays the piano for the Stitchers and so much more we can’t
list it all.
We love Diana for all she brings to our center and shares her knowledge with us. We feel so fortunate to have her. And this is why she is our Volunteer of the
Month. ~ Jody

Quotes “What I love about Thanksgiving is that it’s purely about getting together with friends or family and enjoying food. It’s really for every-body and it doesn’t matter where you’re
from”.—Daniel Humm
FALL BACK
MOVE FORWARD
A s Daylight Saving Time ends, I regret
the passing of summer only briefly. Fall is a season filled with celebration and family
gatherings that carry us into winter.
Halloween masquerades are now behind
us.
Honoring our Veterans, Thanksgiving Day’s feast of harvest foods and plans for December celebrations are upmost in our
minds.
What I enjoy most about this time of year are the cheerful people I meet, not just old acquaintances, but new ones who add to
the wonder and joy of each day.
I am thankful for the extended community of South Tillamook County where no one is ever a stranger for long. And if a helping hand is needed, it is offered generously. May we all receive and give with joy.
Happy Holidays. ~ Diana
Louise Woods Aug 28, 1924—Oct 6, 2019
Louise Woods passed away peacefully on
Sunday, October 6, 2019, at the age of 95 in Tillamook.
Among her many activities were camping, fishing, hunting, garage saling, playing pool, clam digging and so much more. Louise was a lifetime member of the Tillamook Pioneer Association.
Louise and her daughter, Arlene, were regulars at the Center. They not only enjoyed a good lunch, but also the friendships that comes from being here almost everyday.
All of us here at the Community Center will
miss Louise and her smile. Our thoughts and
sympathies are with the family

BATTLE INFLAMATION WITH
FOOD
Although inflammation is the body’s helpful response to pro-tect or recover from injury or illness, chronic inflammation is a lingering state caused by dis-ease, stress, diet, smoking, etc. Managing chronic inflamma-tion may reduce symptoms of pain and swelling and poten-tially decrease the risk of devel-oping other major diseases such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis, Alzheimer’s or depres-sion.
FOODS THAT CAN REDUCE
INFLAMMATION
Daily variety of fruits and vegetables which contain
phytochemicals.
Few servings each week of healthy fats (omega-3s),
from sources such as salm-on, walnuts or chia seeds.
Whole grains and brown rice.
MEALS WILL BE TWO
DAYS A WEEK UNTIL
FURTHER
NOTICE
ALTERNATIVES FOR FOODS
THAT PROMOTE
INFLAMMATION
Choose fish or vegetarian meals over red meet
Replace mayonnaise with sliced avocado
Snack on air-popped popcorn instead of chips
Try fruit or a small piece of dark chocolate for dessert
Trade soda for unsweetened sparkling water
Bake or grill foods instead of frying.
