Theme: Big Talk
Sergeant of Arms Grace Lee took the stage as Toastmaster for the week. Just 1 week away from KHTMTall Tales Speech Contest Grace led us on a little preview of the event. She asked each role taker to tell ustheir own tall tale; to brag about something they are good at, embellish a story, or completely make one up.
We learned that Robyn can control her dreams, Jay ‟s car is so fast that we can ‟t see it (it ‟s also big enough
to play soccer in), Peter is growing a tail, Tim has a new job with SPAM and Brendan generically fused 2nuts together to invent the peanut. It was a night of big talk indeed!
Next up Rose introduced our word and quotes ofthe day. Then Jacob told everybody why theyshould never, ever buy a Dell Netbook (hint: the„book ‟part is ok, the „net ‟part, not so much)
Next we had a short Table Topics session in whichhost Sunny quickly learned that not many KHTMmembers own smart phones yet (what is this,SRTM?). So she had to throw most of her tabletopics questions out the window. Still we had somefun answers and learned that many KHTMmembers aren ‟t what you call “early adapters ”.
Next up we had a great speech session. Howard
started us off by talking about procrastination andgave us some simple steps on how to stay focused and on point when undertaking a project or goal.
Our next speaker was Tim who enlisted the help of Brendan in a role-playing speech about how to correctlyhandle verbal criticism and diffuse a potentially heated situation. After giving us some tips for handling thesituation it was time for the role-play. Brendan came down pretty hard on Tim for the misprints on the clubbusiness card but Tim was able to turn the situation around before it escalated.
All – in-all another great night of speeches at KHTM.

It's your last meal, what is on your plate ?One of the unforgettable meal I had in my lifewas a Burger I had when visiting Hawaiicalled the „Qua Ania Hamburger ‟.
It's movie night, what movie are we watching first? We would start with what we can call one of the"Oldies but Goodies" like "Gone with the wind",
"Star Wars" or "Shawshank redemption"
The bartender asks: "What are you drinking"? What's the cheapest you've got? I don't know manykinds of alcohol, and I don't recognize the difference well, either.
I need a book for a long flight, what do yourecommend? The comic book "Slam Dunk". You wouldnwant to get off the plane even when you arrive.
You grew up for a short time in Ohio. Do you have any
memories of that time? Sure, I remember playingbaseball in the front yard, and going fishing with myneighbors. I even remember running across the field intomy mother's arms after school. Although I was about 2 to 6yrs old that time, I think it's one of the unforgettablememories of my life.
When will you give your 'ice-breaker' speech and what do you have plannedfor it? It's Nov 16th. I remember how great it was when other new members talkedabout themselves, letting others have a peek inside their life. My goal of ice-breakeris essentially the same: to efficiently provide a big picture of my life and mycharacter in front of the audience.
What are your upcoming goals inside and outside of KHTM? When I first cato KHTM, I felt like I found something we traditionally lacked in our own Koreanculture - recognizing the importance of communication and mutualencouragement of education and socialization. The reason why I wanted to becomea member of KHTM is partly to improve my skills for my own sake, but it was alsobecause I wanted to do something FOR the club. I will do my best to do whateverthat helps the KHTM community while I stay in Seoul till probably March nextyear, and find if I can contribute in spreading this good energy to others.

Member Profile5 Tips for your Ice-Breaker
Here are 5 tips on how to successfully give your ice-breaker speechwithout becoming a nervous wreck.
Write out your speech in advance . At least, write down somenotes so you can check your organization and make sure allimportant facts are included.
Don’t try to memorize the entire speech . Though you‟ll only
speak for less than six minutes, once you stand in front of thecrowd, it may seem much longer. Trying to remembereverything while under that kind of stress is asking too much ofany first timer.
Avoid using too many note cards, or full sheets of paper .Cards can slip from your fingers or fall out of order at thewrong moment. They‟re not easy to handle when you‟renervous. One long sheet with large print isn ‟t much better. Itshakes in your hand and is very obvious. Use small note cardsand keep the number to a minimum.
Remember that all your listeners have stood where youstand now . They can all relate to any nervousness you maybe experiencing. Try to think of your audience as your newfriends. See their smiles and pause once in a while during yourspeech to make eye contact with them.
Remember that this speech is merely a way for you to
introduce yourself . Pick three or four important things you‟dlike your fellow Toastmasters to learn about you and makethose your speech. If you speak on something that you‟repassionate about, you won‟t run out of words. So, talk about anexciting adventure from your past, your hopes, your dreamsand maybe your favorite hobby. What defines you? Talk aboutit but keep it simple.

uote of the Week Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not;
nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is ull of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are
