Professional experience in the European Institutions:

As from December 2016: Deputy Director-General – DG Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT) Responsibilities include the policies for digital economy and society and notably for research, innovation and industrial strategies, digital solution for societal challenges and governments as well as cybersecurity.

07/2012 – 11/2016: Director for Components and Systems/Digital Industry. DG CNECT My directorate supports research and innovation and ensures industrial development of main ICT sectors including microelectronics, photonics, robotics, embedded software, advances computing and digital manufacturing. It is also DG CNECT lead for Horizon 2020/LEIT.

03/2011 – 06/2012: Director for digital content and cognitive systems – DG INFSO. Responsible among others for digital content policy in the Digital Agenda, including public sector information, open data, cultural heritage, safe content and learning and for EU supported research and innovation actions in creative content, information management, language technologies, interaction and robotics.

09/2004 – 02/2011: Head of Unit Strategy for ICT Research and Innovation – DG INFSO. Responsible among others of definition of the objectives, priorities and content of EU supported ICT research and innovation programmes (ICT in the R&D Framework Programme, ICT in the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme); drafting of the relevant Work Programmes and follow up of the policy decision processes in Council and European Parliament; Contribution of DG INFSO to the EU Financial Perspectives including the priorities and budgets for ICT and Digital Agenda.

05/2002 – 03/2004: Deputy Head of Unit of Strategy for ICT Research and Innovation – DG INFO. Specifically responsible for the coordination of the preparation of ICT in FP7, responsible for DG INFSO's contribution to the Financial Perspectives 2007-2013 including notably the setting up of the ICT Policy Support Programme in the CIP. Creation of the National ICT research directors' forum to ensure better coordination with the Member States.

03/1999 – 03/2002: Head of sector – DG INFSO. Responsible of the co-ordination of the preparation of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) & main editor for FP6 within DG INFSO; Co-ordination of the Work programme (WP) preparation & main editor of the WP of the IST programme in FP5 and the first IST WP in FP6.
