Why Strategy and Consulting? Strategists work with clients pre-design to understand the project’s physical and social context through research, engagement and analysis. They set the framework for the design, focusing on people’s needs, work and social dynamics and business goals. ‘Strategy’ was my business school education for architects. I ran workshops with CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies, conducted global workplace research studies, wrote white papers on ‘The Future of Work’, gave advice on new HQ locations, and crafted design strategies for architecture and interior design development. I now bring these skills with me into every design project.

I want to be in 5555.

The amenities are great, though they’re not well integrated into the work culture. There’s still too much ‘line-of-sight’ management.

There’s a divide between 5555 and the ‘big house’. Its a big effort to get across the street. We do conference calls with people across the street.

Work feels slow here - I would like to be able to work at a faster pace.

Space types should be considered for each group. If you’re on calls all day, it doesnt make sense to be in open plan

We shouldn’t have assigned desks.

I want the technology in my work life to be on par with, and compatible with the technology in my personal life. Work technologies feel restrictive.

Architectural Drawing and Representation II Co-ordinators: Babak Bryan and Michael Young.ADRII is a M.Arch required course that investigates the possibilities of drawing within contemporary architecture. Design is understood as an act equivalent to drawing. Through section, projection and atmosphere, representational techniques are exploited to discover new spatial sensibilities. Project 1 involved translating a physical object to a regulated plane, while Project 2 focused on sensory perceptions in architecture exploring qualities of light, texture, colour and pattern.

Nyssa Sherazee, 2011

Introduction to Architecture Design Studio Co-teachers: Yael Erel 2011, Moji Baratloo 2010.Intro at GSAPP is a summer design studio program that familiarizes students of all skill-levels with different aspects of the design, history, theory, and the practice of architecture. Strong emphasis is placed on concept, analysis and representation. Word joints, book autopsies, translational drawings and models were employed as points of entry into the design of a transformational paper recycling field.

Haitian Migrants

Natural Disasters

Over the last 50 years, Santo Domingos population has doubled every decade. Waterfronts have historically been generators of development. Can Santo Domingos waterfront produce a lean urbanism that responds to migration fluctuations, builds on historical identity and create an economy that can sustain economic crises?

Research, Master Plan and Building Design for Vicini Group, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Mixed  use  towers  are  often executed as ‘Stacked-Use’. This rules out features of programmatic diversity, circulation  and  resource  efficiency that  are  hallmark  of  a  dynamic  and successful urban environment

Stacking  is often  the  result of a  linear design  process  whereby  individual inputs  are  designed  uniquely  and negotiated through sequential overlay

By  designing  for  multiple  objectives simultaneously  we  can  re-design the  tower  with  the  complexity  of  the urban block.

Housing for 10 000 PeopleLong Island City, Queens, New York

Waste is a part of modern life.

Waste  is created when energy,  spaces and things  are  deemed  inutile.  In  Post-Garbage City, use will be exploited instead of rationed: waste  is  no  longer  garbage,  it  is  fuel  for another  system  and  is  consumed  in  turn.

Diversity  of  sustenance,  purpose  and  yield create an ecosystem of programs, process-es, lives, and buildings that concurrently feed each other and consume the other’s products.  Richness  of  space  is  created  by the relation and integration of multiple intentions.

Splicing of disparate contexts will encourage appropriation  of  public  and  semi-public spaces  at  all  times  of  day.  Privacy  and domestic  comfort  will  be  mediated  via threshold. Garbage becomes fuel for the city. Energy  generates  income.  Diversity  fosters partnership. Nothing goes to waste.
