Great and Little Broughton Parish CouncilThere are grants being made available for up to £400 for schemes to support village life. We obtained the Parish laptop through a similar scheme. If anybody has any ideas which might

benefit from this funding please contact Mary Frew or any Parish Councillor. The next Parish Council Meeting is Monday 15th October, 7.30 pm. in Kirkby Church Hall.

The Public Inquiry into the Ings Lane Gypsy Site was held in Northallerton on Tuesday and

Wednesday 25th and 26th September before one of the Secretary of State’s Planning Inspectors. On both days an impressive number of residents from both villages attended and a number spoke to give their views. The District Council had appointed a barrister to

present the case against planning permission being granted. Our local MP, William Hague, had written to the Inspector supporting the refusal of planning permission. We don’t believe

that the two communities could have done more to put forward their opposition to this unauthorised development. The Inspector will now make his decision. We should know this

in the latter part of October.

Christian Aid

Stokesley Show and Fair have come and gone and now we have had the first frost of the winter. It's really not too soon to start thinking about Christmas and all those jobs that will need to be done! Why not save time and money on sending greetings cards to friends in Kirkby and Great Broughton? You can do this by giving a donation to Christian Aid and sending in a slip.- Your name will then appear in the December Newsletter - Look out for the donation envelopes and slips next month.

Our Christmas Wine and Cheese event is on Friday 14th December and tickets will be available soon from any committee member, or call Jean on 712458

Local History

Thanks to all who visited our joint history display tent at Stokesley Show, a great success. On Monday 15th October we shall have a presentation from Malcolm Bisby, our national

award winning member who will present his research on 'Navvies'. This remarkable bunch of men worked hard, drank hard and slept rough, even by the standards of Victorian Britain.

Little research has been done into their life and times so do come along to Ingleby Greenhow village Hall at 7.30 pm to find out more.

Started thinking about Christmas presents yet? We have the perfect answer for those who once lived in these villages. The Kirby 1911 book is a super piece of time detective work by our team and brings to life some of the village's characters from a century ago. At £5 it's a bargain and you can place your order at the Ingleby meeting described above. All the Best, Geoff

Kirkby and Great Broughton School A reminder that if you want to keep in touch with what's happening in school, our website address is www.kirkbyandgreatbroughtonschool.ik.org.

Our new Reception class of 16 children have settled in extremely well and are enjoying their time in school. We are also joined by 5 new children in Years 1 to 5 so we start the new school year with 110 pupils in total. We also welcome two new members of staff to our

school. Miss Amy Howe is teaching Y6 and Mr Angus Braidwood will be teaching our Y3 and Y4 children while Mrs Kay is on maternity leave.

Our Year 6 children visited East Barnby Outdoor Learning Centre for five days in September. They took part in a wide range of fabulous activities including canoeing, sailing, beck scrambling, orienteering, climbing and much more! Please see our website for some

amazing photographs of them in action. From 8th to 12th October we will be visited by Miss Inoka Sandamali, a teacher from our partner school, Nishanka National School in Sri

Lanka. We are very excited about her visit and learning all about her school and her country.

Harvest Festival will soon be upon us and this year our school celebration takes place in St Augustine’s Church, at 11.00 am. on 16th October. We hope that families and friends will be

able to join us. The church will be decorated by our youngest children as we head into autumn. We will be sharing our harvest gifts with local residents.

We are also looking forward to welcoming parents of our Y3 children to school for a special service in the school hall on 3rd October. Revd. Anne will be leading the service and

presenting all the children with a Bible.

Well done to all our children for entering the children’s competitions at Stokesley Show this year and what a delight it was to see all their fantastic work on display. Congratulations to

the children who won prizes: Amelia Y3, Freya Y6 and Victoria Y6.

The beginning of the year also saw the election of our School Council. They are already contributing to the direction and ethos in school with our first meeting discussing school

rules and collective worship. Our elected representatives are: Indeya and Alfie in Y1, Rahmona and Ethan in Y2, Martha and Sam in Y3. Ruby and Luca in Y4, William and Caitlin in Y5 and Fin and Lucy in Y6. We have also appointed our new Y6 House Captains and they are Joseph and Imogen for Endeavour, Dominic and Katherine for Adventure and Max and Freya for Discovery. I am sure they will be excellent role models for the younger children

and good ambassadors for the school.
