Keystone Exams

Replaced the 11th grade PSSA Include three exams: Algebra I, English

Literature, and Biology Designed as end-of-course

assessments Administered without a time limit for

students completing during a testing session

PDE Mandate

All public high schools in Pennsylvania MUST administer the Keystone Exams

Graduation Requirement for students in the Class of 2017 who must pass Keystones in Algebra I, Literature, and Biology to graduate

Students currently in grades 10, 11, and 12, do not need to pass to graduate

Keystones

We receive NO money for students taking the test

BHS is judged on how well our students perform

Academic Growth is excellent for schools to display

Keystone Exams All 11th graders must take (or will have

taken) the three examsAny student who has had, or is currently taking

Students who took the Keystones last year without reaching Proficiency must retake the exam

Why Keystones?

BHS is measured against all high schools in Pennsylvania.

These exams will display a student’s mastery of required skill sets in each subject area.

Helps us to know where we need to adjust our curriculum

Identifies individual academic strength and weakness.

Students in class of 2017 who do not pass the KeystonesMust complete a Project Based Assessment

(PBA)Each module = 6-8 hours of project workStudents are not permitted to be exempt

from PBA

course of six days. May 12 through 23

Bring an approved calculator (no cell phones)

Read the question carefully Use the formula sheet Do the work on a piece of scratch paper Check work twice Mark the answer clearly Show all work for open ended questions
