Books children read
• The books we use to teach children to read are books which emulate natural patterned language.
• Children are expected to have a go at words using the context clues, key words and phonics.
Testing• At the end of Year 1 children will be tested
on their ability to decode words - known as the phonic screening check.
• At the end of Year 2 children are tested on their reading fluency and reading comprehension.
• In addition to this if they didn’t pass the phonic screening check they are required to take it again.
