WHY STUDYTHE HEALTH AND COMMUNITY SERVICES

PROGRAMME?

Australia, as in many other countries worldwide, is experiencing an unprecedented growth in health, aged care, disability and community services as a result of an ageing population and a social shift towards a more caring and supportive society. Australia has an acute shortage of well trained and qualied staff to meet this social need. This situation is more critical in regional areas in Australia.

“To keep the current ratio of aged care workers to people aged 85+ we need to add 77,976 workers in the next 10 years, a recruitment goal of 650 aged care workers per month” – McCrindle, Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council

“The initial roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme includes both a launch and a transition phase. During this latter component, scheme numbers are forecast to increase from just over 30,000 in 2015-16 to over 450,000 in 2018-19.” – Australian Government National Commission of Audit

The Health and Community Services Programme provides students with an education that is guaranteed to enhance student’s skills and knowledge and provide the opportunity to achieve their career aspirations. As part of this programme students will benet from work placements with leading aged care and community services organisations. Students will have the opportunity to practice new skills in real life work situations. The programme comprises of 3 stages – with the rst 2 stages undertaken in the rst year of study and the 3rd stage undertaken in the second year of study.
