TARGET AUDIENCE AND GENRE

The target audience of this magazine tends to be both males and females interested in rock music of an age of 12-20. This can be seen by the chaotic design and bright colours designed to attract the eye of the teenager. The genre is rock which can be seen by the cracked masthead and, again, the general chaos across the page

MAIN IMAGE

The main image of Ozzy Osbourne is very prominent and takes up most of the page to attract people to the main article. He is also addressing the audience directly further luring the target audience. His attire is quite dark and gothic further providing people with the impression that this is a rock magazine. Also, his pose is quite threatening and menacing, something usually seen in metal groups like that of Ozzy’s own group, Black Sabbath

MODEL CREDIT

This is an add-on to the Model Credit which states the names of the six bands that they will be focusing on. The font is in capitals which again shows the magazine as loud with the bright colours attracting the audiences eye to the low fallow area with band names they will recognise and associate with, making them want to read further into their personal lives and lifestyle

LEAD ARTICLE

The model credit is large and bright to attract the eye of the audience and is also placed next to the main image to allow the audience to determine that this is the main story they are promoting. The title is in all caps which make the magazine seem loud, like it is being shouted. There is also the use of an exclamation mark which, again, shows the writing to be loud and is the symbol of the mag

COLOURS/TYPE FACES/HOUSE STYLE

The colours have specifically been placed to be loud and messy and the entire font is in capital lettering which shows how much noise the magazine contains. The colours are bright to attract the target audience while the colours have been specifically chosen to be aesthetically pleasing as the red and yellow are known to be matching and a pair of colours

MASTHEAD

The masthead is brightly coloured in white and in capitals with an exclamation mark. This indicates that the magazine is a magazine that generates some noise and its size draws the audience’s eye. Also, the word ‘Kerrang’ shows that the magazine is that of a rock and metal genre as this is the onomatopoeic word representing the noise a guitar makes when it is strummed heavily. Also, the title is cracked which again shows noise. Finally, the title is hidden behind the main image. This is to push the main theme of the magazine and because the magazine is so famous and recognisable with its target audience that the symbol doesn’t need to be completely visible to be recognised

THE GUTENBURG DESIGN PRINCIPLE

The layout of the magazine is chaotic with no corner unused but making sure that the main image is in the main area of focus, the title is in the Primary optical area and that even the low fallow area is filled to try and attract the audiences eye to that area of the page. The more important and attractive items take up the main focus points while the less important stories fill the remaining space

COVERLINES

These are again in bright colours making them stand out and fitting in with the house style of the magazine. The names of the bands that the article is concerning are the largest font which, again, attracts the audience to recognisable bands they associate with and attracting them further into buying the magazine to read into the snippet of the story

BANNERS/FLASHES/BADGES

There are a number of banners and badges placed around the page which all contain pictures of the bands or members of the bands the article relates to. This is to attract fans of these particular bands to purchase the magazine, especially with posters of their favourite band members
