    Tour the land of the Maasai people in Kenya, Africa

    Join EDventures as we travel to the heart of Kenya, Africa.

    This is an extraordinary travel and service adventure. Travelers will have ample opportunities tview the incredible array of wildlife, meet the people, experience cultural exchanges andparticipate in a service project that focuses on childrens education.

    There will be plenty of time to experience this beautiful country, meet young elephants at anorphanage, view awesome big game and birds.

    DAY 1 : WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7TH

    Departure from Phoenix via Amsterdam.

    DAY 2 : THURSDAY, AUGUST 8TH : ARRIVE NAIROBI

    Evening arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After clearing Immigration and Customs formalities,you will be met by Lynne Leakey, your Tour Director and transferred to the Sarova Stanley Hotel (or similar).

    Opened in 1902, the Sarova Stanley is one of Nairobis oldest hotels. Ernest Hemingway, Denys Finch Hatton,Edward Prince of Wales, Stewart Granger, Ava Gardner and Clark Gable have all visited the Stanley. The hotelis located in the centre of town and is elegantly furnished offering Victorian elegance combined with everymodern amenity. There are several restaurants including the world famous Thorn Tree Caf (where travellers inthe colonial days used to meet and leave notes for each other), a gym, sauna area, heated pool and a smallshopping arcade.

    Dinner on own arrangements this evening.

    DAY 3 : FRIDAY, AUGUST 9TH : NAIROBI

    Breakfast at the hotel and depart for a day of excursions in the beautiful residential area of Karen.

    Visit Kazuri Beads which was started to help women around Nairobi with regular employment so that theycould support their families and educate their children. Meet the women and chat with them about their livesas they work. The Jewellery also makes great gifts!

    Visit the Giraffe Centre which offers the unique experience of hand-feeding these gentle giants at eye level a raised platform, while watching the warthogs below snuffle around looking for titbits. The centre is theheadquarters of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) which was setup to raise money to relocaendangered Rothschild giraffe to safe areas.

    Visit the Karen Blixen Museum for a glimpse of typical colonial life inKenya. The house was once the centre piece of a farm owned byDanish Author Karen and her Swedish Husband, Baron Bror vonBlixen. The museum gained international fame with the release of theOscar winning film Out of Africa, which is based on Karens life.

    Lunch today will be at the Carnivore Restaurant, which is set in an attractive garden setting and, as the nasuggests, is a meat eaters paradise. A variety of meat which may include ostrich, crocodile and camel areroasted over a huge charcoal pit and then carved at your table, served with delicious salads and sauces. A

    variety of vegetarian dishes are also available. The desserts are to die for, not forgetting the locally brewedKenyan coffee or tea to crown it all.

    After lunch tour the National Museum with a private guide. The Nairobi National Museum is located a short from the city centre and has been completely refurbished to showcase collections of Kenya's rich heritage.The artworks and materials used for the outdoor sculptures, the landscaping and the botanic gardens also reto these four themes. The Museums archeology and paleontology section is internationally recognized for itscontribution in prehistoric studies and has one of the largest and some of the best collections found the worldover. Other attractions within the compound include the Snake Park and Botanical Gardens.

    Return to the hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure.This evening there will be a short talk about Peaceful Home of Children, which you will visit the next day.

    DAY 4 : SATURDAY, AUGUST 10TH : NAIROBI / KIANYAGA / NYERI

    Today travel through rich agricultural land towards Mount Kenya. Arrive at the Peaceful Home for children inKianyaga and enjoy lunch and some fun time with the children.

    The Home is a private institution which is run and funded under the umbrella of Angels of Hope FoundationKenya. The home was set up in July 2007 and currently there are 14 children. The Director of Peaceful Home isJoe Njogo and the Manager and Matron in charge is Joes wife Agnes. Both these parents have looked afterorphans for the past 20 years, with much love and dedication. The plans for the orphanage are to create a familystructure. Each house will have 8 children, a mixture of both boys and girls of different ages, with a mother. Thiswill give them a sense of being in a family. The construction of the first house was finished in March 2008. The

    second house was finished in May 2010. The Directors living quarters and guest rooms have been built and arenow in use. The kitchen and Recreational Hall are being built and should be ready in 2012. A new project hasbeen setup with Greenhouses growing produce which will be sold to help the upkeep of the Home and thechildren.

    Enjoy song and dance from the Kikuyu tribe, which is one of Kenyas largest tribes. Kikuyu history says that their

    God, Ngai, took Gikuyu, the father of the tribe, to the top of Kirinyaga (Mt. Kenya) and told him to build his homein that area. He was also given a wife, Mumbi and together they had nine daughters. Each of the daughtersmade her own homestead, and this is how the nine separate clans of the Kikuyu were born. The Kikuyu relyheavily on agriculture but they also keep cattle, sheep, and goats.

    Later, depart for your hotel in Nyeri. Outspan is located in Nyeri town, right in the heart of Kenyas tea and coffeegrowing highlands and is an Eden of vibrant gardens and green lawns. Peacocks add to the charming ambianceas they roam at will. The hotel was built in 1926 and was once home to Lord and Lady Baden Powell, founders ofthe Scout and Girl Guide movements. Facilities include a restaurant, pool and guests have the opportunity to takea guided river walk or Golfers may decide to enjoy a game of golf at the neighboring Nyeri Club. On clear days,the verandah is the perfect spot to catch a glimpse of snow-capped Mt. Kenya, the second-highest mountain inAfrica.

    Overnight Outspan Hotel (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

    DAY 5 : SUNDAY, AUGUST 11TH : NYERI / NAKURU

    After breakfast, drive down into the Great Rift Valley and make a brief stop at Thompson Falls. Continue yourdrive to Mugunda Farm, arriving in time for lunch. Lunch will be followed by a tour of the tea and coffee farm.

    Thereafter, proceed to your camp in Lake Nakuru National Park.Flamingo Hill Camp is situated within the famous Lake Nakuru National Park and is set in beautifully landscapedgrounds with a variety of indigenous plants and flowers. All tents are en-suite and decorated in calming safaritones, natural woods and wrought iron four poster beds. There is a restaurant, small library and massagefacilities at the camp.

    Overnight at Flamingo Hill Camp/Lion Hill Lodge (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

    DAY 6 : MONDAY, AUGUST 12TH : NAKURU

    Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the camp and spend the day exploring the park with morning and afternoon gameviewing drives.

    Lake Nakuru National Park is best known for its greater and lesser flamingos. There are also large flocks ofpelicans. The parkland surrounding the Lake has acacia and euphorbia forests as well as areas of grassland androcky cliffs. It is home to many animals including waterbuck, leopards, and Rothschild giraffe. Rhinos, rare inother parks and reserves in the country abound here.

    Overnight Flamingo Hill Camp/Sarova Lion Hill Lodge (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

    DAY 7 : TUESDAY, AUGUST 13TH : NAKURU / NAROK / MASAI MARA

    Breakfast at the camp and early morning departure for Narok. Visit the Womens Beading Cooperative which wasformed to help the women earn an income by selling the beaded items they make. Continue your journey,arriving at your camp in the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve in time for lunch.

    Sekenani Camp is situated on the boundary of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve at the very heart of the big gamecountry in southern Kenya. Comprised of fifteen exceptionally well-designed tents, it is the smallest permanenttented camp in the Maasai Mara. It is known for its magnificent setting, excellent cuisine and what are probablythe most comfortable tents in Africa. The camp is operated in conjunction with twenty six Maasai families whohave a share in the business. It is the logistical center for a community development project developinginfrastructure for health-care, veterinary services, education and clean water for people living around the reserve.

    Relax after lunch before your afternoon game viewing drive in the reserve.

    DAY 8 : WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14TH : MASAI MARA

    Breakfast at the camp. Spend the day in the Maasai Mara with early morning and afternoon game viewing drives.Masai Mara is one of Africas greatest wildlife reserves. Acacia dotted plains, tree-lined rivers and woodlands areabundant with wildlife and an array of birdlife. Game viewing is spectacular year round; you may see a pride oflions stalking their prey, observe a herd of elephant and their fascinating social structure, or see pods of hippowallowing in the rivers. The great wildebeest migration is one of natures wonders; an estimated two millionanimals migrate in a year-round pattern through the Serengeti/Mara ecosystem. Around July each year the hugeherds begin dramatic river crossings and the grasslands of the Mara are covered by a mass of movingwildebeest, offering easy opportunity for crocodile and predators who are never far away

    The Mara is also home to the Maasai tribe, who still practice one of the oldest cultures in the world.

    DAY 10 : FRIDAY, AUGUST 16TH : MASAI MARA (LOITA AREA)

    Breakfast at the camp and spend the morning visiting a school in the Siana area.Return to the camp for lunch, followed by an afternoon game viewing drive in the reserve.

    DAY 11 : SATURDAY, AUGUST 17TH : MASAI MARA / NAIROBI

    Breakfast at the camp and drive back to Nairobi, arriving in time for lunch.Lunch will be at AmaicaRestaurant which offers authentic Kenyan cuisine served with a unique traditional touch.

    After lunch transfer to the Sarova Stanley hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure.

    This evening there will be a lecture with a drink and some bitings before dinner.

    DAY 12 : SUNDAY, AUGUST 18TH : NAIROBI

    Breakfast at the hotel and visit Kibera slums, which is one of the largest slums in Africa.

    Stop for lunch at Utamaduni craft centre. The centre supports craftsmen from all over Kenya and has arestaurant and various craft shops within one large house. There will be some free time for shopping.

    As the perfect end to your safari, visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust,which is dedicated to the protection ofAfricas wildlife. Orphaned animals, particularly elephant and rhino, are hand-raised with the intention ofreintroducing them back into the wild. Here you will be able to see the small elephants and learn about thisproject and the importance of the elephant in Africas conservation efforts. Here, one baby elephant will be

    adopted for each person. You will be able to meet your baby and interact with him/her during this visit.

    RESPONSIBILITY:

    a) All bookings are accepted on the specific condition that Maniago Safaris Ltd. and/ or other subsidiaries,affiliated companies, independent suppliers who are not affiliates with Maniago Safaris Ltd. in any way, actonly as booking agents for the owners, outfitters, operations and contractors in all matters relating to hotelaccommodation, sightseeing, tours and transport whether by aircraft, rail road, motor coach, ship, boat orany other means.

    b) All tickets, exchange orders or vouchers issued by those described above are subject to any and all termsand conditions under which such means of transportation, accommodation or other services are offered orprovided, issuance and acceptance of covering vouchers, and tickets shall be deemed to be consent to thefurther condition that neither Maniago Safaris Ltd., nor their subsidiaries, independent suppliers, etc., hereor abroad shall become liable or responsible in any way in connection with such means of transportation,accommodation or other services or for any person or property howsoever caused or arising from anydelays in transportation or consequences, therefore.

    c) All scheduled airline flights are occasionally subject to overbooking or cancellation. If thisoccurs, Maniago Safaris Ltd., and/or its correspondent companies will do all in their power to assist clientsin boarding flights or finding alternative arrangements. It must be stressed that this is done as a courtesy

    to clients and Maniago Safaris Ltd., cannot be held responsible for denied boarding, nor for the additionalcosts thus incurred.

    d) At some of the places you will visit on your tour, optional activities furnished by other independentsuppliers who are not affiliated with Maniago Safaris Ltd.., in any way will be available. Some of theseactivities carry with them various inherent risks, including that of attack by wild animals, which can causeserious personal injury. These activities include, but are not necessarily limited to:

    a) Walking safaris.b) Horseback safaris.c) Camel Safaris.d) Hot air balloon trips.

    e) Airplane and Helicopter flightsf ) Train journeysg) Any form of ship or boat travelh) Gorrilla trekkingi) Elephant activities

    You should be aware that, although precautions are taken by the suppliers to guard against such dangers,YOUR SAFETY CANNOT BE GUARANTEED. Should you elect to participate in such activities while youare on tour, you are, of course, free to do so. However you must understand that such participation will beat your own risk, and that MANIAGO SAFARIS LTD. CAN ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSAFETY. This includes any acts of war or acts of God (i.e. floods, earthquakes, fire etc)

    e) Maniago Safaris Ltd., their representatives reserve the right to withdraw such a tour or any part of it to

    make such alterations in the itinerary as to them seem necessary or desirable, to refuse to accept or retainas a member of the tour any person at any time, and to pass on to tour members any expenditureoccasioned by delays or events beyond their control. In case of any appreciable variable in cost in these,the right is reserved to make such adjustments to rate as necessary.

    f) We suggest all clients take out adequate travel and medical insurance, as Maniago Safaris Ltd will not beresponsible for any accidents or mishaps that may occur

    g) Any disputes arising will be handled within the laws of the Government of Kenya

    PAYMENT POLICY

    A deposit of $3325.00 is required at the time of booking. The balance is due 90 days before commencement ofthe arrangements. If the reservation is made within 90 days of departure the whole amount must be made at thetime of confirmation.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    Cancellation received within :

    90 - 40 days prior to departure will be subject to a cancellation charge of 25% of the tour cost plus airfare andinsurance

    39 20 days prior to departure will be subject to a cancellation charge of 50% of the tour cost plus airfare andinsurance

    19 10 days prior to departure will be subject to cancellation charge of 75% of the tour cost plus airfare andinsurance

    Cancellations received within 09 days of departure will be subject to forfeiture of the entire tour cost.
