Kentucky became the 15th state in 1792.
How did we get the name “Kentucky”?
The Iroquois Indians called the land “Kentake” which means “Great Meadows”.

Coal is Kentucky”s most valuable non-renewable resource. Other plentiful renewable resourcesare soil, water, sunlight, and trees.
Mammoth Cave is the only national park in
Kentucky and is located in the Pennyroyal region.
The Kentucky Derby is run at Churchill Downsin Louisville each May. The Derby is also calleda “Run for the Roses” and has been called the most exciting two minutes in sports!
