Early Pick Up

If you are picking up your child before dismissal, please call the office and we will get your child and have someone bring them to you. Arriving at the classroom door is not allowed due to COVID 19 restrictions.

School Attendance System

If your child is going to be late or absent, please call the SafeArrival attendance system @ 1-855-278-4513. Or if you would rather access the system by internet, https://go.schoolmessenger.ca. The office no longer accepts calls regarding absences or lates. Please do not send attendance notes to the office or your child’s teacher. All attendance information needs to be updated through the SafeArrival system.

Patrols

School safety patrols are on duty each day at 12 noon, 12:50 pm and 3:30 pm. Please send your child when patrols are on post. Make sure your child comes home immediately after dismissal so they can cross with the patrols.

For your child’s safety, remind them to obey the patrols at all times. The patrol supervisor is Mrs. Behma-Chaikosky.

Daycare Spaces Available

The Munroe ECEC Daycare located in room 6 of the school currently has spaces available for students in grades 1-6. Please drop in or give us a call at 204-793-7626. We are open at 6:30 am until 9:00, and then from 3:30 pm until 6:00 pm. We are also open all day during school closure days.

Health Care Plans

Every child with special health care needs, such as a puffer, medication or an Epipen, requires a health care plan. The plan gives detailed information so the school may respond quickly.

It is a parent responsibility to inform the school about the health care needs of their child. If your child’s plan has changed, please notify the school.

Administering Medication to Students

We know that from time to time, children need to receive medication while at school, and we’re happy to oblige, within Winnipeg School Division guidelines. There is a form which you will need to fill out. As well, when you send the medication to school, it must be in the original prescription bottle with the child’s name on it. Call the office for more information.

Medical Conditions

If your child has any medical condition (Asthma

and allergies being the most common reported to

the school) please be sure to let the office know.

We will provide you with some paperwork to

ensure the best care for your child while at school.

Public Health Nurse

Our public health nurse for this year is Heather Decksheimer. She is located at ACCESS River East and her phone number is 204-801-2301. Should you have any concerns, she would be happy to provide assistance.

Water Bottles

As we continue to navigate the school year with COVID-19, our water fountains continue to be closed off. Please ensure you are sending your child to school with a filled water bottle. We have a limited supply of bottled water in the office that can be accessed if needed, however the supply is limited. Thank you for your support!

News from Room 7...

Kindergarten students have been working really hard since September on letters, counting and pat-terns. We have learned the names and sounds of these letters so far; B, M, S, A, D, J, P, H, C and K. We have been working on our names as well, identifying the letters in it and printing it the correct way. We are learning to print our letters starting from the top. We are counting forward and backwards every day! We are learning to extend and create AB, AAB, ABC and ABB patterns using colours, shapes and size.

Keep up the great work!

Indoor Recess Policy

During the winter months, the wind chill is checked before morning recess, lunch time and afternoon recess.

Students are expected to dress approximately for the weather at all times. As per Winnipeg School Division policy, students will be kept indoors only on inclement days when the wind chill reaches –––28° Celsius. When the wind chill is between ––25° to —–27° , students may go out for a shortened 10 minute recess.

At times, parents and guardians have requested by a note to the classroom teacher or a phone call to the school, to have their child remain indoors at recess time. It is our school’s belief that if a student is too sick to go outdoors at recess, then he or she is too sick to be at school.

We would ask parents and guardians to send children to school only when they are well enough to partici-pate in all activities, including recess.

Parent Council

President: Angela Porter Secretary: Vacant Treasurer: Vacant Fundraising: Vacant Lunch Program: Kristy Ranson / Christina Walsworth

Parent Council is open to all parents and is made up of volunteers who want to work on behalf of the school. Coming to Parent Council is an invaluable way to contribute to your child’s education and overall school experience.

The more parents become involved in Parent Council, the better our school can be. Whether you can join us for one meeting or all five, your presence is important.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday January 12th @ 6:30 pm. The meeting will be held virtually. Please call the school at 204-669-1228 by noon on Tuesday January 12th to receive an invite.

School Clothing

We recommend that parents put a change of clothes in their child’s backpack so that if there is a need for a child to change their clothes, there is something here for them to change into.

We have a small inventory of assorted clothes and shoes that have been donated by families for school use. We share these clothes whenever there is a need for our students and we request that these clothes get returned so that we may have them for any other children who may require them in the future. We are very happy to accept donations of sweats or jeggings, socks and gently used foot-wear that your child no longer wears to maintain our “clothing inventory”. Your donations are very much appreciated. Please do not send jeans as these are very difficult to size for other children.

Please keep in mind that If we are not able to find suitable clothing in your child’s backpack, or in our clothing inventory, we will have to call the parent to come to the school with replacement clothes for your child.
