Kenny Fisher In the film Can’t Hardly Wait, Kenny “Special

K” Fisher is a ludicrous wannabe gangster who plans on losing his virginity at the party.

He is a representation of a white gangster. His appearance reflect this by wearing baggy clothes. He wears a jacket that is too big for him. He also wears boots, bling, and goggles. Kenny’s actions also reflect this as he speaks like a gangster. He knows how to do the “G-Walk”. One line of dialogue that reflects this is “Why y’all gotta waste my flava?”

Kenny Fisher is stereotyped as the ‘white gangster who wants to lose his virginity’. This character supports the stereotype. If we look on his appearance, we can say that he is a wannabe gangster. He wears baggy clothes and he has a bag which he calls the “love kit”. Inside the bag, there is a kama sutra book which Kenny Fisher uses to practice his skills in a bathroom. You can also see the kind of person he is by reading the quote on his profile. Kenny Fisher is a trying hard gangster to the point where the audience might view him as a ridiculous wannabe gangster.

The value that this character promotes is that people should have sex before marriage.

Kenny Fisher is represented as a negative character because that is the way the other characters sees him. He attempts to flirt with the girls but the girls rejects him. He tries to talk to the girl named Coreen, but the girl ignores him. He is a gangster, and there is nothing but cons when it comes to being a gangster. Everybody else looks down upon gangsters because they sell drugs and do bad things.

In this scene, Denise is telling Preston that someone might be auditioning for Soul Train. Kenny Fisher is looking at his reflection in the mirror, doing his best impressions to attract the girls at the party. This makes him look so desperate of attracting women and desperate of losing his virginity. The different conversations of the people at the party, Preston and Denise’s conversation, and a rock track from the 90’s are the sounds that you can hear. Kenny Fisher is wearing a jacket that is too big for him, blings and boots that gives him a gangster look.

The camera moves from Kenny to Preston and Denise and back to Kenny. The camera angle is eye-level, it shows subject as we would expect them to see in real life.

When he talks to the girl named Ashley, asking her if she still

remember playing spin the bottle on 7th grade and you can tell that the girl does not want to listen to him, but he keeps on talking. To make him stop, Ashley starts to embarrass him, telling him about the food stuck in Kenny’s braces. Then everyone starts to laugh at him. You can say that he is really embarrassed by the way his face falls.

The other side of Kenny is shown near the end of the film when Denise gets mad at him, Kenny follows her and apologize to her. In this scene, Denise is walking down the road while Kenny is riding his car, following her. It is a long shot or sometimes referred to as wide shot. Then, when Denise stops and Kenny walks out of his car and faces Denise, the camera angle in this scene is close up, so that the audience can see the emotions of the characters. By looking at Kenny’s facial expression you can say that he is sincere and he acts truly about his own feelings and thoughts. While Denise seems disappointed but she is willing to forgive him. This is the point where the audience might see Kenny as a positive character.

At the first half of the film, Kenny Fisher’s behaviour is negative. Because the only value that he promotes is people should have sex before marriage. You can also say that the characters doesn’t like Kenny by avoiding him and his crew.

The only part of the film that the audience may view this character as positive is when he asks forgiveness to Denise after being rude to her. This shows the audience that despite of being a gangster he still is sensitive and he cares about other people’s feelings.
