Thank you. Attendance It is the school’s responsibility to encourage parents to ensure their children attend school every day unless they are ill. This is because there is a proven link between a child’s attendance and their attainment. Parents have a legal duty to ensure the regular and full time attendance at school of registered pupils (Education Act 1996). This policy is based on the law and on Best Practice guidance produced by the Department for Education and the Local Authority. The governors and I were very disappointed that more than 60 days were lost during the last academic year as a result of families taking holidays during term time. These absences were unauthorised. If you are considering taking your child out of school, please take the time to read the School Attendance Policy carefully. This is available on the Page 1 Kennet Valley Primary School

NEWSLETTER NUMBER 218th September 2017

Harvest FestivalOur traditional Harvest Festival celebration will take place this year on Friday 13th October at 9am at Kennet Valley Free Church. We ask that each child brings an item of food in a tin or a packet to donate to the local Food Bank.

We hope you will join us there and for coffee afterwards in the school hall, hosted by the Kennet Valley Primary School Parent Teacher Association. The KVPTA are this year holding this coffee morning in aid of McMillan Cancer Support.

Donations of cakes to sell are very welcome – please can these be bought in on Thursday 12th October. Thank you.

Attendance

It is the school’s responsibility to encourage parents to ensure their children attend school every day unless they are ill. This is available on the school website or you can request a hard copy from the school reception. The policy makes it clear under what circumstances I will or will not authorise absence from school and sets out what sanctions are available to the school to deal with unathorised absences.

The Kennet Valley School Choir

The choir has already started rehearsals for the Reading Schools Junior Music Festival to be held at The Hexagon, Reading on 23rd November. This was a joyous occasion last year. If your child is in Years 3 – 6 and enjoys singing, please do encourage them to join the school choir. Rehearsals are after school on Tuesdays with Mrs Holliday as choir mistress. Word books and CDs are provided to help the children learn the songs.
