Preface

There is nothing so important in this hour as

for the Body of Christ to be full of the Word of

God and full of the Spirit of God. The time has

long since passed for following man-made plansand formulas. We need the Word of God in our

hearts and the anointing of God upon our lies so

we can prosper in eerything we do. We need to

stay in God!s "resence and find out what the #ead

of the Church$ the %ord &esus Christ$ has in mind$

and then be sure to do it. God has not hidden from

#is people what #e wants to do' it!s all laid out in

the (ew Testament. And it is only by following

God!s (ew Testament plan and being filled up to

oerflowing with God!s Spirit that we will be

e)uipped to participate in the reial in these last

days and to bring &esus the glory and honor due

#is (ame. Also$ if we follow God!s (ew

Testament plan for the Church$ eery belieer will

be able to ta*e his place and fulfill his function in

the Body of Christ. #oweer$ in order for belieers

to be able to do this$ it is crucial that each one of

us e+perience a fresh anointing. We are to be con-

tinually filled with God!s Spirit so that we can be

used by God mightily in these days to fulfill #is

will in our lies. God has made an abundant

proision for #is people to be filled up at all times

with #is Spirit$ regardless of outwardcircumstances$ so we can lie unto #is glory,

)e O'd Tesamen

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the

Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O

most High:

To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the

morning, and thy faithfulness every night,Upon an instrument o f t e n strings, and

upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a

 solemn sound.

or thou, Lord, hast made me glad

through thy work: I will triumph in the works

o f thy hands.

O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy

thoughts are very deep.

  "salm

/01-12

This entire "salm is a psalm of praise to God

for #is goodness. 3t begins by saying$ 0It is a

/OO thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High. 0

But notice particularly the latter part of erse

midst of praising God for #is goodness$ the

 psalmist said$ 5... 3  shall #e anointed with fresh

3n Bible times$ particularly in the 6ld

Testament$ men were set apart or consecrated to

the sacred offices of the prophet$ priest$ and *ing

by the anointing with oil. 6il is a type of the #oly

Spirit. The anointing with oil symboli7ed that the

#oly Spirit would come upon men or women toanoint them to stand in a particular office.

#oly Anointing 6il

When the Bible tal*s about the anointing with

oil$ it is referring to the actual olie oil along with

its arious spices and components that was used in

6ld Testament times to consecrate or set aside

someone or something for a holy purpose. As we

particular office or to render special serice to

God. Also$ an ob8ect or a thing$ for e+ample$ such

as the

Tabernacle and its furnishings were also anointed

The anointing oil was holy because it was a

type of the Spirit of God. After the anointing with

oil$ the Spirit of God would come upon the man of

God to anoint him from that day forward to fulfillhis office and to carry out God!s plan for him on

the earth.

=emember that in the 6ld Testament$ people

were not born again' therefore$ the #oly Spirit

could not lie inside them$ #e could only come

upon them to anoint them for serice. #oweer$

under the (ew Testament$ the #oly Spirit lies

The Anointing for the 6ffice of the "rophet

0)a%er @ T)e Anoining in )e Ne,

Tesamen

To help us understand the anointing in the (ew Testament$

we must reali7e that the following are synonymous terms0 power, )pirit, Holy /host, Holy )pirit, and anointing. "ay

particular attention to this as you read these erses.

The Anointing Dpon &esus

%et!s loo* first at the anointing in &esus! life. We *now that

&esus was born of the #oly Spirit because the Bible clearly

indicates this fact. An angel of the %ord appeared to Eary and

told her she would gie birth to a Son$ and that #is (ame would

 be called &esus 9%u*e 101<. Thin*ing in the natural$ she said$ 5...

 How shall this #e, seeing I know not a man30 9%u*e 10;<. But

the angel said that the #oly Spirit or the  power of God would

oershadow Eary.

CU 1*)'

)' . . . he -/CD >-/S shall come upon thee, and the P/@8

of the -ighest shall overshadow thee* therefore also that hol6 thing

which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of >od.

&ust as &esus! birth into this world was a wor* of the #oly

Spirit$ the belieer!s birth into the family of God$ the new birth$

is accomplished through the wor* of the #oly Spirit.

Then in %u*e chapter $ we see that thirty years after &esus!

birth$ #e was anointed with the #oly Spirit. #e was endued with

 power from on #igh. 3n other words$ #e

9 was anointed with the #oly Spirit to carry forth #is ministry

on the earth.

CU )*$1,$$

21 !ow when all the people were baptiAed, it came to pass, that

Iesus also being baptiAed, and pra6ing, the heaven was opened,

22 4nd the -/CD >-/S descended in a bodil6 shape li;e a dove

upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, hou art m6

beloved Son in thee am well pleased.

Than* God for the new birth. But belieers also need to beanointed from heaen for serice 8ust as &esus was. When is the

belieer anointed for sericeF &esus said in Acts 10$ 0'ut ye

 shall re%eive power, a f t e r that the Holy /host is %ome upon

you: and ye shall #e witnesses unto me #oth in 4erusalem, and in

all 4udaea, and in )amaria, and unto the uttermost part o f the

earth. 5 We see later in Acts / when the #oly Spirit descended

upon the disciples$ that the first thing they did was to go out and

bear witness of &esus. The baptism in the #oly Spirit is the

 belieer!s anointing for serice.

#ere in %u*e 0/1$//$ we see that &esus was anointed from

on #igh as the #oly Spirit descended upon him.

=emember also that the words$  power, )pirit, Holy /host,

Holy )pirit, and anointing are synonymous terms. We see this$

for e+ample$ in %u*e ;01;. After &esus was anointed by the #oly

Spirit at the =ier &ordan$ the Bible says$ 5. . .  4esus returned in

the 1O$*- o f the )pirit into /alilee: and there went out a

 fame o f him through all the region round a#out0 9%u*e ;01;<.

3mmediately after &esus was anointed by the #oly Spirit$ #e

returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit because

#e was anointed. #e returned to #is hometown of (a7areth and

declared that #e was anointed by the Spirit of the %ord. #e said$

and to the authority God has gien us.

There is another erse which relates to the authority or

anointing upon belieers to carry out the Great Commission.

=emember in Eatthew chapter /$ after &esus rose from the

dead$ #e said that all power or authority was gien unto #im.

The Gree* word translated 5power5 here also means authority.

Then in the ne+t erse #e immediately authori7ed the Church to

God not only wants us to go tell the good news$ but #e

Belieers are to be endued with power from on #igh$ 8ust as

&esus was endued with power from on #igh. #oweer$ as we

So we understand that &esus told belieers to be endued with

belieers were also authori7ed or anointed to fulfill the 5Go ye 5

of the Great Commission. :ery one of us in the Body of Christ

they left God!s plan and made their own plans. And because their

own plans were man-made$ they couldn!t prosper.

According to the dictionary$ a 5cistern5 is an artificial

large )uantities so as to be able to supply the needs of a city or a

#ow can belieers maintain the anointing of God on their

God!s purposes for them in the earth. The psalmist said$ 5 . . . ?

maintain a fresh anointing in our lies. We need to stay in God!s

"resence until we get a fresh anointing. We need to follow God!s (ew

Testament pattern so we can be full reseroirs to #is glory.

So let!s continue to spea* with other tongues and to sing and ma*e

melody in our hearts to the %ord. And let!s continue to teach and

admonish one another because the Word of Christ dwells in us richly

in all wisdom.

When was the last time you spo*e in a psalm gien by the

inspiration of the #oly SpiritF Eaybe you!e said$ 53!e heard other Christians spea* in psalms$ and 3!e prayed that the %ord would gie

that ability to me.!! 6r maybe you!e thought that spea*ing in psalms$

hymns$ and spiritual songs belongs to 8ust a  few Christians and that

not eery Christian has the ability to spea* in psalms. But$ no$ as

we!e seen spea*ing by the unction of the Spirit belongs to eery

single Christian because the Bible said$ 5Je may all prophesy.5 And

spea*ing in psalms$ hymns$ and spiritual songs is e+ercising the

simple gift of prophecy.

God is still anointing #is people to prophesy, 3!m not tal*ing

about standing in the office of the prophet. 3!m tal*ing about the

simple gift of prophecy. The Bible says the simple gift of prophecy is

to spea* to men unto edification$ e+hortation$ and comfort$ and that

we may all prophesy0 5... ye may all prophesy one #y one...5 91 Cor.

1;01<.

But$ you see$ een the simple gift of prophecy must be e+ercised

under the anointing. So much of the time people don!t prophesy under the anointing; they wor* up something in the flesh. (o$ they need to

wait for the anointing to prophesy. They need to be anointed with

fresh oil,

Therefore$ if you!re full of the #oly Spirit if you!re anointed

with fresh oil you can spea* to yourself and to the %ord in psalms$

hymns$ and spiritual songs wheneer you desire. 3f it weren!t possible

to do so$ the Bible wouldn!t encourage us to do it, We all need to be

anointed with the fresh oil that spea*ing with psalms$ hymns$ and

spiritual songs brings.

We!re to spea* to whomF To yourself and to the %ord, Whether

you are by yourself or with someone else$ stay in God!s "resence long

enough to be filled with a fresh anointing$ spea*ing in psalms andhymns and spiritual songs in your heart to the %ord. Then you will be

filled to oerflowing with the Spirit of God and you can teach and

admonish one another.

The anointing to spea* in psalms$ hymns$ and spiritual songs will

come up inside of you. The #oly Spirit is in you$ and the anointing of

God is in you too. Sometimes the anointing will come upon you'

sometimes it will rise up within you. 3t wor*s in different ways with

different people$ but it is still the same anointing. When that anointing

comes upon you or rises up within you$ the words will 8ust come

rolling out of your mouth and you will spea* words unto God you

neer thought of spea*ing before. There will be a certain amount of

rhyme to them because a psalm is a spiritual poem or ode. 3t mayrhyme or it may not$ but there is an element of poetry to it.

When 3 get started spea*ing in that realm$ psalms 8ust *eep

flowing out of me. 3 hae spo*en nearly all night long 8ust to myself

in psalms. #ere are two of the psalms the #oly Spirit has gien me.

Praising the Cord

3 will praise the %ord at all times' 3 am not moed by what 3 see. When the way seems dar*$ when there seems no way$ 3 stand my

ground and praise #im' Because #e seeth the way that 3 go and 3 wal* in #is path$

and 3!ll do that which is pleasing in #is sight.

And the storms of life may come$ and the thunder may roll and the

lightning may flash$ but as 3 wal*$ 3 *now that ictory is mine at last,

Because$ you see$ #e came from heaen long ago$ and #e is the

Champion sent by the @ather God to the earth below$ and #e

eleates man*ind into the place where they *now Know their

place in #im, Know the reality of #is blessings and truth. And so

the enemy cannot gainsay them. And they!ll praise God day and

night.

Kictor6

Iictory is not in places or things. Iictory is not in what 3 can see or

feel. Iictory is in #im Christ the Champion from heaen.

#e came from the bosom of the @ather to the earth$ and too* my place

and became my Substitute. And defeated the enemy in his own

domain.

&esus arose ictorious with the *eys of heaen and the *eys of hell and

death$ and inited all to come and go with #im to heaen.

Bubbling Up on the nside

Stay filled with the Spirit, Stay in God!s "resence and

stay full of the Word until you get a fresh anointing. Stay in God!s

"resence until the anointing 8ust comes bubbling up from inside of

you.#ae you eer heard a whistling tea *ettleF When you put water

on the stoe to heat in a tea *ettle$ that water is not hot enough 8ust

because the tea *ettle lets off one or two little whistles. To get that

water really hot$ you let the teapot stay on the fire until that water 8ust

begins bubbling up and there!s a steady flow of steam coming out,

3f you!ll stay in God!s "resence long enough to get anointed with

fresh oil$ the anointing will come bubbling up on the inside. Then a

steady stream of prayer$ praise$ and than*sgiing to God will flow out

of your lips, Spea*ing in psalms comes up out of your spirit. 3t may

be that you!ll spea* in psalms by the simple gift of prophecy in your

own language. 6r maybe you will spea* in tongues and the

interpretation will be in psalms. But it will all come flowing out of your spirit as you stay in God!s "resence and get a fresh anointing,

(otice another aspect of :phesians 2010 5...  singing and making

melody in your heart to the Lord.5 When you spea* in psalms and

hymns and you are singing and ma*ing melody in your heart to the

%ord$ you!re ministering to the %ord.

God wants us to maintain a spirit of praise to #im continually

because as we saw in Chapter $ the Bible says we are priests unto

God' priests are to offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually. We

are to continually hae a song in our hearts so we can offer praise

unto God. That is ministering unto the %ord.

Because you!re filled with the Spirit$ you!re singing you!e got

a song in your heart. 3n other words$ you!e got a song on the inside.

And if you stay filled with the Spirit$ you will hae a fresh anointing

in your life$ and nothing can stop you from singing,

3t may seem that you 8ust got the worst news that you could eer

get$ but if you!re filled with the Spirit$ you!e got a song in your heart

no matter what the circumstances of life may be. 3f you hae a song in

your heart$ nothing can stop you from singing. Jou!ll laugh right in

 In Adverse 0ir#&msan#es

Some fol*s who hae taught the so-called 5faith message5

maybe haen!t put the emphasis where it should be put. Some people seem to thin* if you beliee God$ nothing bad is eer

going to happen to you. Some people hae taught that if you

hae faith$ you!re 8ust going to float through life on flowery beds

of ease.

But if you lie for God$ sometimes you!e got to swim

upstream$ not 8ust float downstream, 3n life there will be those

times you will hae to swim upstream, Sometimes it seems that

eerything else is going the opposite way and you hae to swim

upstream, Wal*ing by faith is not always easy.

3 remember some e+periences 3!e had along this line after

God called me into the field ministry in 1; and 124. 3n those

first few years$ God told me for a while 8ust to stay and preach inthe churches. 3!m out to obey God$ so 3 stayed in the churches

and held what we call Church meetings or reial meetings.

3 remember one particular pastor as*ed me to come and hold

a meeting for him. 3 thought$ ear Lord, I don2t want to hold a

meeting for that pastor. At a conention right in front of

eeryone$ 3 had heard him critici7e people who taught about

faith and healing$ and for ministering in the Spirit li*e 3 did in

healing serices by the gifts of the Spirit.

At the time 3 thought$ oesn2t he know I minister like that3

Some time after he said that$ he inited me to come and hold a

meeting in his church. 3 prayed$ 5%ord$ 3 don!t want to gominister at his church because 3 *now that

&

'

what 3 teach about faith and healing would be plowing his field

crossways. #e!s been ma*ing furrows up and down one way$ and

if 3 come to his church 3!m going to ma*e furrows up and down

the other way. Surely you don!t want me to go to his church,5

The %ord said$ 53 want you to go.5

5ear %ord$5 3 said$ 5don!t send me there. "lease. &ust send

me anywhere$ but 3 don!t want to go there. Besides that$ this man

is an older minister he!s old enough to be my daddy. 3 8ust

don!t want to go.5

The more 3 prayed$ the more the %ord said$ 53 want you to

go.5

@inally$ 3 said$ 5All right. 3!m going.5 So 3 went.

A young man and his wife who were graduates of a Bible

college went with me to help me. The woman played the piano

and her husband sang and led the congregational singing. They

also sang special songs.

After 3 preached the first night at this pastor!s church$ this

couple told me$ 5We wondered if you were going to teach on

Page 51: Kenneth E Hagin - A Fresh Anointing.doc

faith and healing$ because we *now this pastor and we *now he

doesn!t understand biblical faith and healing.5 9The pastor used

to be this woman!s pastor.<

3 had put it off as long as 3 could. @inally$ 3 couldn!t put it off

any longer. 3 *new in my spirit what God wanted me to teach on.

3 announced that 3!d be teaching the Bible along a certain line on

a certain night.

Dsually$ this young man and his wife sat on the platform because the building was full$ but that night they sat down on the

front row. They told me afterwards$ 5We wanted to sit down

front so we could see the pastor!s face. #e was sitting right

 behind you.5

3t!s the most difficult thing in the world to preach faith and hae

a pastor sitting on the platform in bac* of you breathing the hot

breath of unbelief down your bac*. Jou don!t een hae to loo*

bac* there' you can 8ust feel it. That!s tough sledding, But

e+periences li*e that in life do you good. They toughen you up.

:ndure #ardness as a Good Soldier of &esus Christ,

"aul said to Timothy$ a young minister$ 5... endure

hardness...5 9/ Tim. /0<. 6h$ it!s easy enough to endure when

eerything is going good when things are easy. Jou don!t

hae to endure much then. As long as eerything is going good$

it!s easy to endure and to maintain the glow. But "aul told

Timothy$ and this goes for eery Christian$ 5... endure hardness,

as a good soldier o f 4esus 5hrist.0

"reaching when you can feel the pastor!s hot breath of

unbelief down your nec*$ is enduring hardness, That!s when you

really see if you can maintain the glow, 3 could feel that pastor!s

unbelief as he sat behind me. 3 didn!t dare turn around to loo* athim. Actually$ 3 could almost see the pastor!s reactions on the

faces of those in the congregation$ because they were watching

their pastor$ and 3 could almost read eery one of his reactions

 by how they reacted,

:ndure hardness as a good soldier of the %ord &esus Christ, 3

8ust *ept plowing for about forty minutes. 3 8ust *ept on going.

@inally$ after about forty minutes$ the pastor sitting behind me

came alie. Suddenly he burst out and said$ 5Amen,5 and he

 8umped up. 5Amen,5 he said$ 5@ol*s$ Brother #agin is right.

Bless God$ what Brother #agin is teaching is right, #e!s right,5

This wasn!t the only time 3 had to preach or teach under

these *inds of circumstances' it seemed li*e this happened to me

a lot bac* there before people understood biblical faith and

healing. o you thin* that was easyF (o, But you!e got to

maintain the glow in spite of the circumstances$ because

circumstances won!t always be pleasant. Sometimes God will

re)uire you to do things that may be tough sledding for a while.

3 remember another e+perience along this same line. Again$

the pastor who had inited me to preach in his church was old

enough to be my daddy. #e was a leader in his particular

denomination$ and he had announced to his congregation some

Page 52: Kenneth E Hagin - A Fresh Anointing.doc

time before 3 got there$ 5The ery idea of ministers calling

people out and telling them what!s wrong with them, The ery

idea of telling people that they!e got a hernia or a rupture$ or

something else wrong with them, on!t they *now God doesn!t

heal li*e thatF5 96f course$ he was tal*ing about ministering by

the gifts of the Spirit.<

Although this pastor had inited me to hold a meeting in his

church$ 3 *new he didn!t understand certain biblical principles of faith and healing. 3 *new when 3 started preaching 3 would be

plowing his field crossways$ but 3 also *new the %ord had sent

me there$ so 3 8ust *ept plowing. 3 8ust *ept teaching and

 plowing.

6ne night there was an older gentleman in the congregation

whom the pastor had said was the finest Christian he!d eer

*nown. This older gentleman was more than eighty years old.

The pastor himself was in his fifties$ and he!d been pastoring for

about thirty-fie years$ so to say that this older gentleman was

the finest Christian he!d eer *nown was )uite a statement.

That night 3 8ust pointed to this older gentleman. 93 didn!t*now him personally$ e+cept that the pastor had briefly

introduced me to him.< 3 said to him$ 5The %ord shows me you

hae a double hernia. Jou!e been operated on twice and it came

bac* on you again$ and now you hae a double rupture. 3f 3!m

wrong$ 8ust say so.5

5(o$5 he said$ 5you!re right.5

5The %ord told me to tell you to come down here$5 3 said$

5and that when 3 lay hands on you$ both ruptures will disappear

instantly.5 #e came down to the altar$ 3 laid hands on him$ and

 both ruptures disappeared instantly.

Jou see$ the pastor didn!t understand this *ind of ministry' he

had told his congregation that God wouldn!t heal people this

way. The ne+t night$ howeer$ he got up and announced to his

congregation$ 5@ol*s$ listen. 3 want you to hear me. 3!e been

wrong. What Brother #agin is teaching and the way he is

ministering is right. What he!s teaching about faith and healing is

right, 3f he calls you out$ 8ust come on down to the front. And if

he calls me out$ 3!ll come down here too,5

But you thin* that was easyF (o, But you!e got to maintain

the glow regardless of circumstances. Jou!e got to maintain the

glow regardless of what people say about you. Jou!e got to be

ferent in the Spirit in season and out of season whether you

feel li*e it or not,3f you!ll be ferent in spirit no matter what happens$ no

matter what the circumstances of life are$ you!ll hae a song in

your heart and you!ll be able to maintain the glow of the #oly

Spirit in spite of difficult situations.

3 remember a church we pastored during World War 33. There

was a young man in the congregation who recounted the

following story0

This young man was going to Bible college to prepare for the

ministry. 3n the summertime he would go out and preach so he

would hae enough money to pay his tuition in the fall. Then in

the fall he would return to Bible school. 6ne fall he was

traeling bac* to the Bible college by bus.

The bus was crowded it was so full of people that there was

only standing room.

The bus was running late$ and this young man had to ma*e a

connection and transfer to another bus. 3f he missed that

connection$ there wouldn!t be another bus he could ta*e for )uite

some time.

As the crowded bus he was on was approaching the bus

terminal$ this young man thought to himself$ Oh, dear Lord, this

#us is going to pull in and the other #us is going to pull out

#efore I have time to get o f f and transfer. #e was sitting toward

the bac* of the bus where it was crowded and many of the people were swearing and telling ulgar 8o*es. Also$ many

 people were standing up bloc*ing the aisles$ ma*ing a )uic* e+it

almost impossible.

About that time the young man saw the other bus pull into

the bus station. #e was the only one who had to get off at that

particular stop$ and he had to ma*e a )uic* e+it$ but too many

people were bloc*ing his e+it. Although he didn!t mean to do it$

amidst all this swearing and ulgar tal*$ without thin*ing he said

out loud$ 5"raise the %ord, Than* God 3!m saed,5 #e thought to

himself$ ear Lord, id I say that out loud3

3mmediately$ eeryone stopped tal*ing and loo*ed at him.

Then ery )uic*ly eeryone bac*ed out of his way, That wholecrowd 8ust parted and stood bac* and let him get off the bus, #e

marched down the aisle and as he began to get off the bus$ he

thought to himself$ $ell, I2ve already done it anyway! I might

7ust as well do it up right! So as he was stepping off the bus$ he

said loudly$ 5#allelu8ah$ glory to God, 3!m glad 3!m saed,5 and

went out the door unhindered and transferred to the other bus

 before it pulled away,

That crowd reacted 8ust li*e the deil does when we praise

God, 6nce you begin praising God$ the deil will shut up$ step

bac*$ and get out of your way, When this young man praised

God$ those people on that bus didn!t hae anything else to say,The deil won!t either because he doesn!t li*e to hear Christians

 praising God,

We went into this dealership and there was one automobile in

wal*ed up to loo* at it$ the manager approached us and as*ed us

if he could help us. Brother 6steen said$ 5Jes$ 3 want to buy this

Eost Christians beliee in submitting one hundred percent as

long as it!s others who are doing the submitting to them. But

when it comes time for them to submit to someone else$ that!s

another story. Then all of a sudden$ they don!t beliee in

submission anymore,

Belieers who are filled to oerflowing with the #oly Spirithae a submissie spirit or attitude toward others. That is$ they

don!t find it hard to submit or gie in to one another in an

attitude of loe. They don!t always hae to be right and to hae

the last word$ so to spea*. They are so  filled with the Spirit of

God that they don!t demand their own rights and their own way.

They want what God wants$ and God!s way is always loe

 putting the other person first.

Jou see$ when you!re filled with the #oly Spirit$ you hae a

submissie spirit and you don!t always need to hae your own

way. Submitting means giing in to one another in a spirit of

loe and mee*ness. There are some times when it might be

better if you didn2t hae your say-so, Sometimes it might be better to 8ust *eep your mouth shut and not say anything$ een if

you do hae the right to hae something to say in the matter.

Submission indicates a bro*en and a humble spirit.

Christians are to learn to submit to one another in the fear of

God. 3t!s easy when you!re filled with the Spirit to submit to the

other fellow in the fear of God. Also$ when you!re filled with the

Spirit and you!re maintaining the glow of the #oly Spirit$ you!re

not hard to get along with.

#oweer$ the word 5submit5 in this erse is the same word that!s

used in the preious erse telling fellow belieers to submit to

one another in an attitude of loe.

As we said$ to submit means to gie in to one another and

not always needing to hae the last word about eerything$ and it

is certainly not ruling oer one another. Therefore$ when the

Bible tal*s about submission in the marriage relationship$ it is

not tal*ing about the husband ruling oer his wife with an iron

fist$ so to spea*$ any more than it!s tal*ing about belieers ruling

oer one another. Biblical submission is referring to Christians

getting along with one another by submitting to each other in

loe. We are to maintain a teachable$ humble spirit$ and wal* inloe toward one another.

Therefore$ we can readily see that a characteristic of being

filled with the Spirit is that you are willing to submit or to gie

in to one another in an attitude of loe.

The anger of a Know-3t-All Attitude

:ery one of us needs to be teachable and humble$ and to

submit to one another in loe. 3!e said for years that 3 wouldn!t

listen to any teacher who wasn!t willing to be taught. All of us

need to maintain a teachable spirit. 3!m always willing to learn. A

*now-it-all spirit or attitude is contrary to biblical teaching.

" *now-it-all attitude says$ 53!m right and eeryone else is

that is dangerous, With an attitude li*e that you!re liable to wind

up dying prematurely because God may 8ust hae something #e

3 recall an e+perience 3 had along this line with a certain

go.5But$ %ord$5 3 said$ 53 don!t want to go to that church.5

The %ord said$ 53 want you to go.5

5Why do Jou want me to go thereF5

The %ord replied$ 5Because that pastor is going to die unless

he 8udges himself$ and he!s only ; years old. #e!s not old

enough to die. But if he!ll get in on your morning teaching

So at this pastor!s initation 3 came to his church to hold a

meeting for him. Although 3 was a guest in his church holding a

meeting for him$ do you *now he didn!t come to one meeting,

#e was too busy, #e was busy all the time.

We can be too busy, By the same to*en$ we can also be so

busy that we don!t hae time to listen to others and we become

unteachable. This pastor was too  busy. #e had a daily radio

program and he was building a new church. #e had inited meto come and hold this meeting for him$ but he neer came to one

of his own serices, (ot one,

@inally$ his wife said to me$ 5Brother #agin$ tal* to my husband.

See if you can get him to come to the day serices$5 she said.

Thin* about that, A pastor!s wife haing to as* a traeling

teacher to tal* to the pastor to try to get him to come to his own

meetings, 3 wasn!t there putting on my own meetings. 3 was a

guest spea*er$ holding meetings for him.

3 *ept after him to come to the meetings$ but he was always

too busy. @inally$ we got oer into the third wee* of the

meetings$ and 3 as*ed the pastor!s wife$ 5Why do you want me toget him to come to these sericesF5 3 wanted to find out what she

*new$ because the %ord had already told me he was going to die

prematurely if he didn!t change. There were some ad8ustments he

needed to ma*e$ and if he didn!t ma*e them he would die

 prematurely$ although that wasn!t God!s will.

The pastor!s wife said to me$ 5Brother #agin$ 3 want him to

go to the morning serices because 3 *now he!s going to die if he

doesn!t change.5

5#ow do you *now he is going to dieF5 3 as*ed. 5#e!s only

; years old. #e!s not old enough to die.5

53 can!t tell you how 3 *now$5 she said. 53 8ust *now it on the

inside. 3 8ust hae an inward coniction that he!s going to die.5Then 3 told her what the %ord had told me.

5That!s right,5 she said. 53 *now that!s true$ and 3 *now it

doesn!t hae to happen. We!re both ordained ministers but

through the years$ we would neer listen to anyone else. We

thought we *new 8ust as much as anyone$ and we would neer

listen to anyone else.5

That!s not a submissie attitude$ is itF That!s not submitting

one to another or haing a teachable spirit. 3t!s impossible to be

ferent in spirit and to maintain the glow of the #oly Spirit if

you don!t hae a humble and a teachable spirit.

5Tal* to him$5 she as*ed me. 5As* him to come to theserices.5

3 did tal* to him again$ but it didn!t do any good. @inally$ it

was the Wednesday of the third wee* of the meeting. We only

had two more day serices and then the meetings would be oer.

We!d already had thirteen serices thirteen hours of teaching

that he!d missed on the sub8ect of faith and healing.

After the morning serice we went out to eat the pastor$

his wife$ and 3. We were sitting in the restaurant eating$ and 3

Jou *now what that pastor said to meF 3!m tal*ing about not

proe some ridiculous theory. Jou can ta*e erses of Scripture

out of their conte+t and ma*e the Bible say anything you want itto say. 3!m not tal*ing about that.

But if someone brings me light and reelation from the Word

of God$ 3!ll receie it$ and 3!ll be ready to wal* in the light of

God!s Word, But you *now someone doesn!t hae a teachable

spirit when you bring the Word of God to them$ and they get

offended and 3 mean to people who hae been saed andfilled with the #oly Ghost,

Christians ought to hae a teachable spirit. By not haing a

teachable spirit$ we can miss many blessings that God has for us.

3 remember 8ust such an incident when 3 could hae missed a

aluable spiritual truth God wanted to get oer to me if 3 had not

stayed open and teachable. 3 was in a serice listening to a

certain minister spea*$ and 3 could tell right away that he wasn!t

accurate in his understanding and teaching of certain scriptural

truths. Also$ in his teaching he made a derogatory remar* about

the so-called 5faith5 message which showed that he really didn!t

understand Bible faith. 3 could hae gotten offended at hisignorance of the Word of God and closed my mind and shut him

off right there. But 3 8ust stayed open and gae him the benefit of

the doubt and said to myself$  He pro#a#ly didn2t mean that &uite

the way he said it.

Keeping an open mind and giing others the benefit of the doubt

is part of maintaining a teachable spirit. We can miss many

blessings God intends for us by getting offended and shutting

our minds to what others hae to say. @or e+ample$ in this

particular instance$ there had been a spiritual )uestion that 3!d

been wrestling with for probably twenty years or more. But after

this minister made that derogatory remar*$ it wasn!t more than

fie or ten minutes later that the #oly Ghost answered that)uestion for me through this ery minister.

3 thought to myself afterwards$ $hat i f I2d %losed my mind

to what he was saying3 $hat i f I had 7ust shut him o f f 3 I still

wouldn2t know the answer! 3f 3 had gotten offended and shut my

mind off to this minister and had not remained teachable$ God

wouldn!t hae been able to use him to get that spiritual truth

across to me' 3 wouldn!t hae been open to receie anything

from him. But because 3 stayed teachable$ een though he didn!t

thin* )uite li*e 3 did or maybe didn!t hae as much light in

certain areas as 3 did$ God was able to bring me light on this

sub8ect 3!d been wrestling with through him. 3!e said for years$

and it bears repeating you can disagree without being

disagreeable.

When 3 was a young pastor$ it was customary in churches in

those days to hae a reial in the local church eery three

months whether or not you needed it$ and whether or not God

had directed you to do it. This was 8ust the way they did things

bac* then in the local church. So we had a reial eery three

Page 70: Kenneth E Hagin - A Fresh Anointing.doc

months in our church. uring the reial we always had a guest

spea*er come in and hold meetings for at least two wee*s and

sometimes longer. Then in another three months$ we would

 begin another reial.

So eery year we!d hae at least four reials in our church.

Special spea*ers would come in to minister or to preach$ and

sometimes others would come in and preach 8ust on the

wee*end. Jou can readily see that oer a period of a year )uite afew guest spea*ers held meetings in my church. 6ut of all those

spea*ers$ 3 neer did agree one hundred percent with any of

them. We agreed on the basic doctrines of the Bible$ of course'

they preached the gospel of the %ord &esus Christ 8ust as 3 did.

But 3 did not agree one hundred percent on eery little thing any

of them said. (ot a single one of them, But 8ust because 3 didn!t

agree with everything these guest spea*ers preached in my

 pulpit$ 3 didn!t 8ust 8ump up in the middle of the serice and say$

5(ow you!re all wrong about that, %et me straighten you out,5

3n fact$ during the entire twele years 3 pastored$ there was

one particular minister with whom 3 disagreed the most$ and yetwe had more people saed and filled with the #oly Spirit in his

reials than in any other reial in the church,

Also$ 3 grew enough spiritually in a year or two so that 3

began to agree with some of these other ministers' 3 saw that

they were right and 3 was wrong. But some of them 3 neer did

agree with$ and some 3 still don!t agree with. But that doesn!t

mean that they weren!t good Christians or godly ministers of the

gospel 8ust because they didn!t beliee eerything 8ust li*e 3 did.

But again$ we can disagree without being disagreeable,

3!m not tal*ing about pastors allowing other ministers to preach

gross error in their pulpits without %orre%ting doctrinal error.

That would be contrary to the Bible$ because the Bible says thatwe are to hold fast to sound doctrine 9Titus 10' /01' 1 Thess.

20/1<. 3!m tal*ing about disagreeing on minor issues. We!re not

all going to agree on eery little thing$ but we can disagree and

still be agreeable and wal* in loe and maintain a teachable

spirit toward one another,

After all$ if God had to wait until we were all perfect in

eery aspect of our lies and completely mature in our spiritual

growth and *nowledge of the Word before #e could use us$ #e

wouldn!t be able to use any of us, But 3!e always ta*en great

comfort and encouragement from the Scriptures that tell us God

to be glad God sent another minister to this city, Jou ought to

This pastor had lost out with God because he let a little

something get into his heart against another person. 3t showed up

came upon him$ and he was blind for a season. But :lymas was

not blind with sic*ness or disease. The supernatural power of

God came upon him and rendered him blind for a season,

Jou see$ because the disciples were filled with the #oly

Spirit$ the supernatural power of God operated through them$ not

as they willed$ but as the Spirit willed. 3f you want the

supernatural power of God to manifest through your life as the

Spirit wills$ you!ll hae to stay filled up with the #oly Spirit too.

6f course$ you will hae to lie a life of obedience to God. And

you can!t 8ust sit around and wait for God to make you do

something to ma*e you get filled with the Spirit or to ma*e

you get filled up with #is Word. #e!s not going to make you do

anything. But if you want the supernatural power of God

operating in your life$ stay filled up,

:+tremes in the Church Today

There are some basic problems or e+tremes in the Church

today when it comes to the supernatural moe of

God and the manifestations of the #oly Spirit and gifts of the

Spirit. Some fol*s 8ust don!t beliee in any supernatural

manifestations of God!s power at all. And some fol*s hae seen

such e+cesses and fanaticism een in @ull Gospel$ "entecostal

circles$ that they!re in the ditch on one side of the road and they

don!t want the supernatural moe of God!s Spirit.

Then other fol*s hae gotten way oer in a ditch on the other

side. They desperately wanted God to use them and they were

full of 7eal$ but they lac*ed wisdom. And because they wanted

God to use them but they weren!t full of the Word of God and

wisdom$ they got into the ditch on the other side and got into

error by trying to perform in the flesh.

%et!s 8ust do what the Bible says to do, %et!s stay full of the

Word of God. %et!s be sure the Word of God dwells in us richly

in all wisdom. And let!s be full of the Spirit of God. The Wordfirst' then the #oly Spirit. And in eerything we do whether it is

in word or in deed, let it glorify the %ord. #e is the 6ne we want

to be lifted up and glorified.

 Ho'! S%iri>

Christians who are filled up with the Word of God and the

#oly Spirit are easy to recogni7e. Acts chapter > tells us that being filled with the Spirit and being full of the Word is

recogni7able.

4+S &*1"&

1 4nd in those da6s, when the number of the disciples was

multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the >recians against the

-ebrews, because their widows were neglected in the dail6

ministration.

2 hen the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them,

and said, t is not reason that we should leave the word of >od, and

serve tables.

3 @herefore, brethren, loo; 6e out among 6ou seven men of

-/!S 8P/8, :UCC /: - -/CD >-/S Fthe SpiritG and@S=/ Fthe WordH$ whom we ma6 appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continuall6 to pra6er, and to the

ministr6 of the word.

5 4nd the sa6ing pleased the whole multitude* and the6 chose

Stephen, a man :UCC of faith and of - -/CD >-/S, and

Philip, and Prochorus, and !icanor, and imon, and Parmenas, and

!icolas a prosel6te of 4ntioch*

6 @hom the6 set before the apostles* and when the6 had pra6ed,

the6 laid their hands on them.

The twele apostles were the only ministers the Church had

at that time. The disciples said$ 0It is not reason that we should

leave the word o f /od and serve ta#les0 9. /<. Therefore$ seen

men were selected and appointed to sere tables. :idently these

were the first deacons. The Gree* word translated 5deacon5

means helper and these men were elected to help the disciples so

the disciples could gie

109

themseles more fully to the study and preaching of the Word.

Eany times in the church today when church leaders select

others to fill certain positions or offices$ they 8ust focus on

whether the candidates for the position are filled with the #oly

Spirit or whether they were filled with the Spirit at one time.

They forget about the fact that they need to be people of honestreport and they need to hae a reputation for being full of

wisdom or full of the Word of God.

=emember the erse we read in Colossians 01>0 0Let the

word o f 5hrist dwell in you ri%hly in all wisdom. . . .0 The Bible

says that een those who are chosen to the deacon!s office$ not

only need to be full of the Spirit of God and wisdom$ but they

must be of honest report. eacons often ta*e care of finances in a

ministry' they often handle church finances. Jou don!t want

people with a dishonest report handling your money. (o$ you

Page 85: Kenneth E Hagin - A Fresh Anointing.doc

want someone who is of honest report$ full of the #oly Ghost$

and full of wisdom. "eople can be full of the #oly Ghost$ but

lac* wisdom in some areas.

Therefore$ in selecting people for church offices$ we need to

choose people who hae all three of these )ualifications0 Een

and women of honest report, full of the Holy )pirit, and full of

wisdom. 6ne or two of these )ualities is not enough, We need

Christians who possess all of these )ualities if we!re going tooperate according to the Bible.

The Bible tells us in erse that an honest report is

recogni7able. @or one thing$ if an honest report weren!t

recogni7able$ the disciples wouldn!t hae *nown which men to

select for this position,

Jou *now yourself$ you could say about a person$ 5 3 don!t *now

whether we ought to put him in a position of authority or not. @or

one thing$ he owes eeryone in town he doesn!t een pay his

debts. Besides that he can!t be trusted.5 "eople li*e that are not of

honest report$ are theyF

6n the other hand$ someone who is reputable in eery area isrecogni7ed by all. @or e+ample$ you could say about a person$

5#is reputation in all matters is impeccable. #e has a fine

reputation in the community financially and in eery other way.

3!d trust him in any position in the church,5 A man or woman!s

reputation follows him or her$ and an honest report is recogni7ed

 by all.

Also$ being full of the #oly Ghost must be recogni7able or

how would the disciples hae *nown whom to selectF By the

report that you get about people it is )uite obious whether or not

they are honest and whether or not they stay full of the #oly

Spirit and the Word of God. And as we!e seen$ spiritual health is

recogni7able.&ust as a side thought$ notice Acts >0>$ where these men who

were chosen to be the first deacons were brought before the

disciples0 0$hom they set #efore the apostles: and when they had

prayed, they laid their hands on them.0 3f it!s important to lay

hands on men and set them aside to sere as deacons$ you can

see how much more important it is to lay hands on those who are

called into the full-time or fiefold ministry.

%et!s loo* at an instance in the Bible where men were set

apart for the fiefold ministry. 3 thin* we can glean something

from this.
