A level board is used to apply the finishing touches to anun-level field. A correctly leveled field has good irrigationand drainage characteristics. The level board leaves asmooth finish and does not create or deposit washboardsurfaces.

As the level board passes over uneven terrain in the field, itsblades scrape soil from the high areas and roll it into the lowareas. Hydraulic cylinders connected to the tongue and rearroller are used to control the front to back height of the levelboard. Soil is moved from side to side as the level boardpasses over an area, filling in low spots. Any excess soil notneeded to fill low areas is passed out the rear of themachine to the side. A finishing roller compacts the soil tominimize blowing dust and to show the quality of the levelingaction.

Ground Preparation Equipment

Our grader leveler is an implement with a variety of uses. Itis used to smooth and level small areas such as farm lanesand roads, small gardens, terraces, and other difficult-to-access areas. It follows close to the back of thetractor for better leveling on wavy terrain andfor turning in small areas.

The Kennco level board includeshydraulic adjustment to prevent the machine from diggingtoo deeply into the soil if the tractor passes through a lowspot in the field or begins to experience wheel slippage.The leveling blades have cutting edges that can be removedwhen they wear and new ones welded on. The level boardcan be set up with laser or GPS leveling systems.

Kennco’s ditch closer is another easy to use tool that savestime in field preparation. The ditch closer is designed to pullthe soil from the sides of an irrigation or drainage ditch backinto the ditch, filling the ditch and leveling the surroundingsoil.

The center of the ditch closer is open so that extra soil ispiled in the center of the machine where the ditch was. Thisexcess soil prevents a depression over the ditch as the soilsettles with weather and time.

A variety of different custom sizes are available to meetdifferent customer needs.

Kennco’s ditch plow makes a narrow irrigationditch and distributes the displaced soil evenlyon both sides of the ditch in one pass. Ourstandard ditch plow is designed to dig a ditch10” (25 cm) deep and 16” (41 cm) wide. Ditchdimensions will vary with adjustments to thethree-point hitch position, and changing soiland environmental conditions.

As the ditch plow works, it spreads thedisplaced soil a distance anywhere from3 ft (0.9 m) to 4.5 ft (1.4 m) to eitherside of the ditch. The distance can beadjusted as desired by the operator.A hydraulic option is available toallow adjustment while ditching.

Kennco’s ditch plow is ideal for digging irrigation ditches,drainage ditches to remove excess water from the field, andfor ditch maintenance during the growing season.

Box blade attachments are available for use when the plowre-digs a ditch. They level the newly displaced soil besidethe ditch without throwing it against the side of the bed orallowing it to fall back into the ditch.

BOX BLADE SCRAPER

TOOL CARRIER

Kennco's box blade scraper is a very useful tool whenpreparing a field which has been out of production for asignificant amount of time or which is extremely un-level. Bydesign, box blade scrapers allow you to move soil from onearea of the field to another. Instead of simply leveling anarea in a field, you can move soil from a high to a low area.

Kennco's box blade scraper is unique in that it includes awalking wheel frame on the back of the machine. Thisprevents jarring bounces when passing over dips or bumpsin the field for better leveling. It also includes hydraulicheight adjustment and can be adapted to work with laser orGPS leveling systems. Customized sizes can befabricated.

Prior to bed formation, it is very common to make a passthrough the field with a false-bedder or pre-bedding toolcarrier. Our standard tool carrier is a rugged 20 ft (6.1 m)reinforced tool bar. The tool carrier is commonly used withbedding disks to raise a false bed, or ridge of soil. Growerswho do not use plastic mulch sometimes plant directly onto

this false bed without furthershaping.

False bedding is a good practice that can help improve thequality of bed formation. The bedding disks help loosen thesoil while moving it into proper row centerpositioning. Mounding the soil into its properrow center position will help

with bed formation because it places the soil into the centerof the bed. This means that less soil will have to be movedwhen you pass through the field with your bed shaper. If thefalse bed is raised and allowed to sit for a day or two, it cancollect moisture and dissipate air trapped within the soil toimprove compaction of the bed.

CROSS DITCHER


In many geographic regions or field situations, the removalof excess water from the field requires additional efforts.Our cross ditcher is a tool that cuts a channel in a bed orberm to allow water movement in the field across theplanting beds or into a drainage ditch. We make a singlerow unit that can be used on berms or individual plantingbeds and a three row unit to cut cross ditches through threebeds at a time.

Cross ditchers are powered by your tractor’s hydraulicsystem, and are controlled by the tractor driver. The drivermoves to the location in the field where you need the cross-ditch. After lowering the implement over the bed, the driveroperates the side shovels that close into the center of thebed, and cuts out a section. The operator lifts the cross

Our tarp layer is a special piece of equipment that is usedfor broadcast fumigation applications. It is used tocompletely cover a field with plastic to minimize dissipationof the gas from the soil. The unit lays the plastic mulch overthe soil and includes a system that glues two side-by-sidepieces together to create a field sized tarp.

Gauge wheels are another useful accessory for our toolcarrier. Our BP650 gauge wheels serve several purposeswhen mounted to our tool carrier. They support the weightof the implement, keep it balanced and level, and preventthe bedding disks from digging too deeply. A tool carrierrequires two gauge wheels, one mounted on each side.Each gauge wheel includes height adjustment.

GAUGE WHEELS

Because one of the basic reasons to pre-bed a field is proper spacing of the beds,a tool carrier is incomplete without rowmarkers. Our BP647 row markerattaches to our BP645 tool carrier andoperates from the tractor’s hydraulicsystem.

Our standard rowmarker is adjustable to reach 5 ft (1.5 m)to 8 ft (2.4 m) from its mount on the side

of the tool carrier. Shorter or longer row markers areavailable upon request. Most tool carriers are equipped withtwo row markers, one on each side.

Bed Shapers - Superbedders

1 BED SUPERBEDDER

1 bed superbedders are designed to raise and shapeindividual planting beds. Our standard superbedders shapebeds on 5 ft (1.5 m) or 6 ft (1.8 m) row centers. Whenordering a superbedder, it is important to specify your exactrow centers. The row center determines the width of thesweeps, which are not adjustable.

press pans. Press pans are custom built to the size andshape of the bed desired and are not adjustable. We havefound that rigid, nonadjustable, press pans produce betterquality, more consistent beds.

It is easier and quicker to replace a pan than adjusting nutsand bolts on an adjustable pan. When the press pan is wornout, it is quick and easy to remove by simply unbolting theadjustment turnbuckles and unpinning the pan from theframe. If you need two different sized beds, you can use thesame superbedder with two different press pans. See thesection on press pans on the next page for information onspecifying your press pan dimensions.

Planting crops on top of a raised andshaped bed is very popular in vegetableproduction. It has several benefits:

• Eliminates soil compaction in the rootzone from foot or tractor traffic

removal• Protection from plant disease and pests• Better control of irrigation• Allows precise fertilizer and nutrient

Nothing before the Kennco superbedder produced aperfectly shaped bed. We built our reputation makingbedders that produce a completely filled, stable bed. Ourcustomers began referring to them as “superbedders,” andthe name stuck.

Our basic superbedder consists of a frame with mold boardplows (sweeps) that roll the soil into a press pan. The presspan is what shapes the bed, compressing the soil as itpasses through the pan. Each press pan is custom built toyour height and width requirement.

With a superbedder, you can do more than just raise andshape a planting bed.• Superbedders accept gas knifes and bottle racks so you

can apply fumigant into the soil of the bed as it is shaped.• We can mount fertilizer hoppers or liquid tanks on our

superbedders to apply dry or liquid fertilizers, or a soilincorporated herbicide, during bed formation.

• Superbedders work with an accessory to lay drip-irrigationtape on or below the bed surface.

• Superbedders can also accept an attachment to lay plasticmulch while you are shaping your raised bed.


Bed Shapers - Press Pans and Liners

A bed press pan forms and compresses the soil to a uniformshape and density. Because there are no industry standarddimensions for planting beds, we custom manufacture eachpress pan to the customer’s specifications for bed width [A],bed height [B], and row center spacing [E].

Our press pans typically have a 1¼ in (3 cm) crown [D] atthe center of the bed. This helps water run off the bed,which reduces disease and nutrient leaching.

Planting beds are wider at the base to produce a stable bedthat will not collapse during plastic laying and plant setting.Our standard pans increase bed width at the base [C] by 2in (5 cm) for every 3 in (8 cm) of bed height [B]. Forexample, a bed that is 24 in (61 cm) wide [A] and 3 in (8 cm)

Soil is very abrasive and will wear out your steel press pan.A UHMW liner has high abrasion resistance and greatlyextends the life of the press pan. When the liner wears out,it can be replaced for much less cost than the steel presspan. We recommend UHMW liners for all press pans.

In addition, there are many soils that will stick to metalsurfaces. The self-lubricating properties of UHMW linersminimize soil sticking and improve the quality of the bed.

SPECIFYING A PRESS PAN

high [B] will be 26 in (66 cm) wide at its base [C]. A bedthat is 36 in (91 cm) wide [A] and 6 in (15 cm) high [B] willbe 40 in (102 cm) wide at its base [C].

Row center spacing is important. If the bed is too wide forthe row centers, your sweeps may not be able to pullenough soil from the sides to fill the center of the bed. Forexample, you may have difficulty shaping a bed wider than40 in (102 cm) with a 60 in (152 cm) row center. Soilpreparation, soil type, and the addition of various beddingattachments can all affect your bed dimensions and yourability to shape a good quality bed. Best results aregenerally achieved when the bed width is about half of therow center. We suggest that you select a bed no wider than65% of the row center.

There are many large growers who want to shape morethan one bed in a single pass through the field. For them,we manufacture superbedders which shape two and threeraised beds at a time. We also build fully custom units withfour or more beds. Their practicality depends on the rowcenter requirements and available tractor power.

An important thing to remember when considering a multiplerow superbedder is the levelness of your land. A multiplerow superbedder requires a very level field so that each andevery bed is shaped at the same height, with the sameamount of available soil. In addition, you should considerhow the superbedder will follow the wheel tracks of yourtractor. It is more difficult to shape a bed directly behind atractor tire due to soil compaction.

Proper soil preparation is extremely important in order toshape a perfect planting bed. Some soil types do not lendthemselves to perfect bed formation because they clod orharden very easily. A powerbedder is a useful tool that tillsthe soil and shapes a pressed planting bed at the sametime. The tillers are powered by the tractor’s PTO shaft.Our powerbedder is more than just a tillage tool with ashaper mounted to it. It is an extremely rugged piece ofequipment that forms a tight, pressed planting bed.

Bed Shapers - Options

For various reasons, it is sometimes necessary to reshapeplanting beds. We manufacture a three-point hitch thatcarries a press pan and a mounting connection thatattaches a press pan to a tool bar for this purpose.

Sometimes the sides of a planting bed will fall or crumbleafter shaping, before plastic mulch is laid. Sometimes thegrower will want to fumigate the bed after it is shaped, andneed to repair the gas knife damage and repress the bed tokeep the fumigant from escaping. This can be done using apress pan mounted on a three-point hitch or a tool bar.

A press pan mounted to a three-point hitch or tool barcannot be used to pull and raise a shaped planting bed byitself. It must be used for reshaping purposes only, or it maybe used in combination with a superbedder.

CHOP GATE

Chop gates are important to growers who work fields thatrequire a tremendous amount of water management. Ourchop gate attaches to the back of a superbedder orpowerbedder for the purpose of creating a break, or a crossditch, in the bed. The cross ditch allows for sidewaysmovement of runoff water in the field.

Our chop gate operateshydraulically. It can bepowered by a PTOdriven hydraulic pumpor the tractor’shydraulic system. Thechop gate is controlledby a field worker, whorides on top of theequipment in a safeposition, or by thetractor driver. Theoperator controls thechop gate by activatingthe hydraulics at anylocation in the field.The operatorcompletely controlscross ditchingplacement.

FUMIGATION GAS KNIVES

We manufacture a wide variety of fumigation gas knives thatcan be attached to our superbedders and plastic mulchlayers. The items shown are our standard products, whichhave been proven to be effective for soil fumigation. Wealso fabricate custom gas knives to work in specialapplications. Contact our sales department for moreinformation about custom gas knives.

Our 55081, 55083, and 55084 gas knives are mostcommonly used with superbedders. They mount to a 2¼inch (6 cm) tool bar, which is built into the superbedderframe, so that they extend back into the throat of the presspan. The fumigant is placed into the bed just as the soil isrolled and compacted to form the bed.

The 55081 and 55083 knives place the fumigant about 6 in(15 cm) below the top surface of the bed and have limitedadjustability. The 55083 knife places the fumigant about 8 in(20 cm) farther back into the throat of the press pan than the55081. Our 55084 gas knife places the fumigant deeper,about 10 in (25 cm) below the surface of the bed.

Our 55080 and 55082 gas knives are used specifically withpress pans or pan-type mulch layers like those shown laterin this catalog. They mount inside a press pan and boltdirectly to the top surface. They are commonly used toapply fumigant just before the bed is covered with plasticmulch.

All of our gas knifes are fabricated with hardened steel forlonger wear life and ¼ in (6 mm) stainless steel deliverytubes.

The number of gas knives used with a superbedder varies,based on each grower’s soil conditions, fumigant, andapplication method. As a general rule, growers usuallyposition one gas knife for every 12 in (30 cm) of bed width.For example, a superbedder shaping a bed 36 in (91 cm)wide will usually include either 3 or 4 gas knives.

Our “pig” racks for fumigation tanks can be mounted directlyto a tractor. Our most common “pig” rack is our modelBP690 hydraulically lifted rack. It includes a support framethat bolts directly to the front of your tractor and a lift rackthat operates hydraulically. Many growers like to lay plastic mulch over beds at thesame time that the beds are raised and shaped. Thiseliminates one pass through the field with a tractor. Kenncomakes an attachment for our superbedders that allows thegrower to lay plastic mulch on a planting bed as it is shaped.

The attachment bolts onto the back of a superbedder frame.It is functionally equivalent to our high speed plastic mulchlayer which is described on page 20. This attachmentallows the grower to form a planting bed and cover it withplastic mulch in a single pass.

We do not recommend that growers purchase ourplastic mulch add-on and attempt to modify theirexisting superbedders. There are several modificationsto the superbedder that need to take place. If you wantto add a plastic layer to an existing superbedder, we

It is very common to mount bedding disks on asuperbedder. In heavier soil conditions, or with wideplanting beds, growers may find that they have trouble fillingthe center of the bed. A set of bedding disks mounted onthe front tool bar of the superbedder help move soil into thecenter of the bed, ensuring that it is solid and filled from sideto side.

Our bedding disks are extremely rugged and versatile.Their height in relation to the tool carrier can be adjustedvertically in addition to full 180° rotation. The angle of theblade can be adjusted too. They are constructed of massivesteel castings with cross trussing for support.

IRRIGATION DRIP TAPE LAYER AND SUBSOIL SHANK

Some growers lay drip irrigation tape while they are shapingtheir planting beds. This allows them to put the tape belowthe surface of the bed using a subsoil shank for placement.Our drip irrigation tape layer attaches to the tool bar on oursuperbedder or any other tool bar.

It includes a stand to hold one or two reels of drip tape onthe machine and a ground feed tube which lays the drip tapeon or below the surface of the bed. The ground tube ismade of stainless steel and includes a heat-treated wearguard.

A smooth heavy-duty polymer guide funnel minimizes cutsand tears in the drip tape as it enters the ground tube. Thefunnel is very simple and inexpensive to replace, comparedto repairing other manufacturers’ guide systems.

The drip tape layer includes a disc-brake mechanism toprevent spool backlash during starts and stops. Its spindleand side plates accept all styles of drip irrigation tape.

The mounting brackets for the reel stand and ground tubeallow sideways adjustment so the irrigation tape can belocated exactly where desired on the planting bed.

A variety of different ground tubes are also available. Roundground tubes are most often used because they allow thedrip tape to pass freely with minimal clogging or restrictions.Flat ground tubes are used when growers have a difficulttime getting the drip tape to lay flat on the bed.

FERTILIZER APPLICATORS FOR BED SHAPERS

One option that separates Kennco's superbedder from allothers is that our frame and superstructure are strongenough to add a dry fertilizer hopper. This allows the growerto apply fertilizer or other nutrients to the planting bed at thetime it is formed. Our 600 lb (273 kg) and 1,300 lb (591 kg)hoppers fit on 1 bed superbedders. For multiple bedsuperbedders, we make hoppers that hold about 2000 lb(909 kg) of fertilizer per bed. For example, a 6000 lb (2727kg) hopper fits a 3 bed superbedder.

Fertilizer is delivered to the exit door by astainless steel feed chain. A 6 in widechain is used on our 600 lb (273 kg)hopper. 12 in chain is used on largermodels. The fertilizer application rate iscontrolled by the feed chain speed and exitdoor opening height. A flow control valveon the hydraulic motor controls the chainspeed. The exit door opening height isadjustable by a simple screw mechanism.

After going through the exit door, fertilizer falls into astainless steel catch hopper for distribution on the bed.Catch hoppers are custom built for theapplication method desired. Fertilizer can bebanded through 1, 2, or 3 tubes for exactplacement in the bed. The tubes are adjustablefrom side to side to any position on the bed.They lay a line of fertilizer about 2-3 in (5-7.5cm) wide. In most cases, banding tubes areused with "shoes" that are welded into thesuperbedder press pan. Each shoe makes atrench about 2 in (5 cm) deep and 3 in (7.5 cm)wide. When adjusted properly, the banding tubedrops the fertilizer directly into this small trenchin the top of the bed.

We also make a bandcast catch hopper and distributorwhich spreads the fertilizer across the top of the bed evenlyinstead of in a line.

When ordering a fertilizer hopper with a superbedder, it isimportant to specify whether to feed fertilizer into the throatof the press pan, which mixes the fertilizer with the soil, orbehind the press pan onto the formed bed. Placing thefertilizer into the soil as it is rolled and mixed gives thebenefit of mixing, but reduces control over placement. Mostof our customers prefer precise placement.

Our fertilizer hoppers are constructed of stainless steel or 14gauge hot-rolled steel that is cold-galvanized before painting.

Kennco doesn’t just make attachments to apply fertilizerwith our superbedders. We make a variety of implementsspecifically for nutrient application.

Our 3 bed fertilizer applicator is a 10,000 lb (4545 kg) rigthat straddles 3 planting beds to apply dry fertilizer to thesurface of shaped beds. In its standard form, it isconstructed of 12 gauge steel that is cold galvanized prior topainting. It is also available in stainless steel. The feedchain is driven by a hydraulic motor on our standard units,but a ground wheel drive system is also available. Theground drive wheels are engaged hydraulically. A 12 instainless steel chain is used to move fertilizer to the exitdoor, which is adjustable to control the application rate.

The 3 bed fertilizer applicator is pulled by the tractor’sdrawbar. A smaller tractor can be used to pull it through thefield compared to that required to carry a superbedder and6000 pound fertilizer distributor on a three-point hitch.

A separate fertilizer applicator also gives the growerflexibility in timing nutrient applications that a superbedder-mounted applicator does not.

FERTILIZER APPLICATORS

Our 1 bed fertilizer applicator is also a 10,000 lb (455 kg)rig, but it is designed to apply fertilizer to a single bed or tooperate as a broadcast distributor. The unit is pulled by a

tractor, straddling a single planting bed. Utilizing the samecatch hoppers as our other units, it drops fertilizer on thesurface of the planting bed in 1, 2, or 3 bands, or evenly(bandcast) across the top of the bed.

This unit is constructed of 12 gage steel that is coldgalvanized prior to painting. It is also available in stainlesssteel. It uses a 12 in feed chain that runs the length of theunit to completely empty the hopper. The chain is grounddriven by a hydraulically engaged wheel.

Our 1 bed fertilizer applicator is also available for use as abroadcast spreader. The catch hopper can be replaced witha hydraulically controlled spinner to spread a swath offertilizer on any field.

Liquid Fertilizer Injection Wheel

Our fertilizer injection wheel lets you apply liquid fertilizerthrough plastic mulch for supplemental feeding onan existing crop, or when growing a second or thirdcrop on a bed. As the wheel is pulled over the topof a planting bed it punches a holethrough the mulch every 8inches (20 cm) and leaves ashot of fertilizer. Severalwheels can be used on a bedas close as about 6 inches (15 cm) on center. Thewheel pivots for use on the top or side of the bed.

The wheels are designed to float along the surface of theplanting bed without down force from the tractor. The onlypressure they exert on the bed surface should be from theirown weight and the spring mounting arm.

When a tip is penetrating the plastic, the wheel’srotary valve mechanism allows fertilizer to flow tothat tip. This ensures that the fertilizer is appliedonly where it is needed. The valve timing iseasily adjustable. Our patented rotary valvemechanism is available only on Kennco’sinjector wheel.

Each tip has a ball type check valve whichretains leftover fertilizer in the tip’s supplytube to further reduce fertilizer waste.

The wheel comes with assorted flow regulatororifices. In combination with fluid pressure and tractorspeed, the flow regulator allows precision application of thecorrect amount of fertilizer.

The wheel is constructed of stainless steel and industrialplastics for corrosion resistance. The basic wheel includesa spring type wheel mounting arm, assorted flow controlorifices, and application rate charts.

Wheel carriers can be custom built to your requirements.They range from a simple tool bar type carrier that usestractor mounted tanks, to elaborate self-centering rigs thatincorporate hydraulic controls.

Plastic Mulch Layers

Our plastic mulch layers outperform other equipmentavailable for plasticulture. Our experience in laying plasticmulch, and in equipment design, allows us to build you apiece of equipment that lays plastic mulch tightly andpermanently over either a raised bed or flat ground.

Plastic mulch provides a variety of advantages to growersinvolved in fruit and vegetable production.

• Plastic mulch increases soil temperature, enhancinggermination and speeding plant growth. Quick cropdevelopment means an earlier harvest and increased earlyyields.

• It inhibits weed growth within the planting bed. Darkmulches prevent light from reaching weeds under themulch.

• It improves control over soil moisture content by reducingloss of moisture from the planting bed, and providesgreater moisture uniformity when used with drip irrigation.

• It prevents leaching of fertilizer from direct contact withrainfall.

• It reduces soil compaction and erosion around the croproot system caused by heavy pounding rains.

• It serves as a barrier between the fruit and soil to keep thefruit cleaner and prevent rotting.

• It improves the effectiveness of soil fumigants bypreventing dissipation from the soil to the atmosphere.

The keys to laying plastic mulch are to lay it tight and to burythe edges well so that it stays on the bed. Kennco mulchlayers do this. When laying plastic mulch, it is important tomake sure that it is centered equally over the top of theplanting bed and that the plastic layer is square. It is difficultto do this with equipment that bolts together on a single toolbar. Bolted connections loosen and slide, and they requireconstant adjustment. Our standard products have a weldedframe instead of components that are bolted to a tool bar.

PLASTIC MULCH LAYERS - GENERAL INFORMATION

How to size plastic mulchIt is extremely important to bury a sufficient amount ofplastic mulch so that it does not come loose over time.Most growers find that at least 6 in (15 cm) of plastic oneach edge should be buried. Any smaller amount is difficultto bury and to keep buried.

Example of how to calculate the needed plastic mulch widthto sufficiently cover the bed and bury the edges.If your bed is 36 in (91 cm) wide at the top and 8 in (20 cm)high: 36 in + (8 in + 8 in) + (6 in + 6 in) = 64 in wide

or 91 cm + (20 cm + 20 cm) + (15 cm + 15 cm) = 161 cm

Plastic mulch should not be greatly oversized. Too muchextra mulch can wrap around the stretching wheels andblock the soil from rolling into the burying cup.

Our most popular mulch layer is the high speed plastic layer.Built around a heavy-duty welded frame, it carries two rollsof plastic mulch. The machine operator can switch fromone roll of plastic mulch to the second "on-the-go" in themiddle of the field, without having to stop. This allows fulluse of every roll of plastic and prevents stops in the middleof the field that slow production. It is easy to adjust thismachine for different plastic mulch widths.

The high speed mulch layer has boats that reshape the sideof the bed and dig a "cup" where the edge of the mulch willbe buried. An adjustable braking mechanism slows therollers that carry the roll of mulch to stretch it as it is laid.

The crown roller rides just above or lightly on the plantingbed to smooth the plastic along the bed top. It is shaped tomatch the crown in most planting beds so that it does notflatten or compact the crown.

Plastic Mulch Layers - High Speed

1 BED HIGH SPEED PLASTIC MULCH LAYER

The stretching wheels pull theplastic down the side of the bedand press it into the burying cup.Closing disks roll the soil that wasremoved by the boats back overthe plastic in the cup, holding ittightly on the bed. Support wheelson the back of the machine canbe used to pack the soil over theedge of the plastic, provided thatthey do not touch the side of thebed.

Our high speed mulch layer isavailable with a variety of optionsthat make it an extremely versatiletool. It can be used with anoptional press pan to reshapeplanting beds. Fumigation gasknives can be used (with a presspan which re-forms the bed to

prevent dissipation). An irrigation drip tape layer can beadded to lay drip tape on the bed surface just under theplastic or at a set depth within the planting bed. Theseattachments are described later in this section of thecatalog.

It is very important to make sure that your plastic mulchlayer follows the tractor in a straight line. This is difficult infields where you are riding the side slope of a hill.

We provide stabilization coulters that mount to the sideframe of a high speed mulch layer. They consist of amounting bracket and a straight disk. Once the disk is setinto the soil it makes it difficult for the machine to slidesideways.

MULTIPLE BED HIGH SPEED PLASTIC MULCH LAYER

Our high speed plastic mulch layers are available as multi-bed units. 3 bed units are popular with larger growers whoneed to lay plastic mulch quickly on large acreage. Imaginemoving through your field covering 3 planting beds at onceand laying drip irrigation tape into each bed at the sametime. You can do it with our multiple bed units.

We recommend that multi-bed equipment be used as a set.It is much easier to run a 3 bed mulch layer when it follows amatching 3 bed superbedder rather than a single-bedsuperbedder. The row center spacing will match perfectlybetween the two 3 bed implements. This minimizesdamage to the beds and the amount of reshaping required

from the layer’s press pan orboats.

When considering the use of amultiple bed unit, it is importantto remember that they arefabricated on a rigid frame. Aproperly prepared flat and levelfield will help ensure trouble-free bedding and plastic laying.

Multiple bed units are availablein a variety of customconfigurations, from 2 to 4beds. The row centers must fitaround the tractor tires, solayers with even numbers ofbeds must be built offset or therow centers must be narrowenough that your tractor canstraddle two rows.

Plastic Mulch Layers - Specialty

This was the original Kennco plastic mulch layer. It is theperfect mulch layer for growers who lay plastic in fields thathave a lot of hills and valleys. It rides close to the back ofthe tractor and stays tight against the soil surface regardlessof terrain. The stretching wheels and closing disks float upand down for this purpose.

Our pan type mulch layer carries a single roll of plasticmulch that rides freely on its rollers. The standard machineuses a flat roller that rides above the bed surface, ratherthan a crown roller which touches the bed. (Crown rollersare available as an option.) The pan type mulch layer isadjustable to various plastic mulch widths and can work withour drip irrigation tape attachment and fumigation knives.

IRRIGATION DRIP TAPE LAYER

Plastic Mulch Layers - Options

The most popular attachment for plastic mulch layers is anirrigation drip tape layer. It includes a stand to hold one ortwo reels of drip tape on the machine and a ground feedtube which lays the drip tape on the surface of the bedunder the plastic mulch. The ground tube is made ofstainless steel and includes a heat-treated wear guard forlonger life.

A smooth heavy-duty polymer guide funnel minimizes cutsand tears in the drip tape as it enters the ground tube. Thefunnel is very simple and inexpensive to replace, comparedto repairing other manufacturers’ guide systems.The drip tape layer includes a disc-brake mechanism toprevent spool backlash during starts and stops. Its spindleand side plates accept all styles of drip irrigation tape.

The mounting brackets for the reel stand and ground tubeallow sideways adjustment so the irrigation tape can belocated exactly where desired on the planting bed.

The system is available with a double reel stand to hold asecond roll of tape. A subsoil shank is available to place thedrip tape at a depth below the surface of the bed. See page15 for details.

A variety of different ground tubes are also available. Roundground tubes are most often used because they allow thedrip tape to pass freely with minimal clogging or restrictions.Flat ground tubes are used when growers have a difficulttime getting the drip tape to lay flat on the bed.

PRESS PAN

If you are going to use your mulch layer to apply a fumigant,then you must have a way to seal the slit created by the gasknives. The gas knives will tear up the planting bed as theypass through it, and the damage they create must berepaired. A press pan can be added to your mulch layer forthis purpose.

Press pans for mulch layersare different from thosedescribed earlier inthe catalog forbed shapers.They aremounteddifferently andinclude soilkick-outs thatdig the cup(trench) wherethe edge of the mulchwill be buried.

It is critical that the press pan on theplastic mulch layer match the size of the press pan on thebed shaper that formed the bed. If it is too small, it will pushsoil in front of the bed.

Press pans are only optional for high speed mulch layers.Pan-type layers come with a press pan as part of theirdesign. It is important to specify the exact width and heightof your planting bed when ordering a press pan for a mulchlayer.

Soil is very abrasive and will wear out your steel press pan.A UHMW liner has high abrasion resistance and greatlyextends the life of the press pan. When the liner wears out,it can be replaced for much less cost than the steel presspan. We recommend UHMW liners for all press pans.

In addition, there are many soils that will stick to metalsurfaces. The self-lubricating properties of UHMW linersminimize soil sticking and improve the quality of the bed.

It is often desirable to apply a fumigant to the planting bedwith your plastic mulch layer. The plastic mulch covers thebed immediately after application and prevents dissipation ofthe gas into the atmosphere.

FUMIGATION GAS KNIVES

We manufacture several different kinds of gas knives forfumigation with our plastic mulch machines. Our standardgas knives (part numbers 55081, 55083, and 55084) canmount on the 4 in (10 cm) square frame used on our highspeed machines.

Our preferred gas knives for use with mulch layers are thepan mounted (part numbers 55080 and 55082) gas knives.These gas knives have a narrower profile that causes lessdamage to the bed as they pass through it. They boltdirectly to the inside top surface of the press pan. (Kenncodoes not advise using gas knives with its mulch layerswithout a press pan to re-press the bed, sealing thefumigant into the bed.) See page 12 for more informationon gas knives.


Our single row high speed mulch layers can be used toapply tunnels over planting beds. Using interchangeablemachine components, they can be raised to pass over thehoops used to support the plastic tunnel. The machinestretches the tunnel plastic over the hoops and buries theedges just as it would standard mulch on a bed. The samehigh speed mulch layer can be used for both jobs with theaddition of the optional parts listed below.

TUNNEL APPLICATOR

MINI-COMBO SUPERBEDDER

Our mini-combo machine is very popular among ourcustomers. Utilizing sweeps and press pan similar to asuperbedder, but on a smaller frame, it produces a qualityplanting bed equal to our superbedders. The back half ofthe machine consists of a floating high speed mulch layer.

A mini-combo machine accepts the following attachments:• A drip irrigation attachment that will hold a single or double

reel stand. It is best used to lay a single line of drip tape.(See page 23.)

• Fumigation gas knivescan be mounted on amini-combo, butspace is limited. Itcan be difficult tomount both

Combination machines pull and shape a raised planting bedand cover it with plastic mulch at the same time. This is avery attractive feature to many growers who are interestedin minimizing the number of times they pass through thefield with a tractor.

When deciding whether to use a combination machine or aseparate superbedder and plastic mulch layer, consider thefollowing:• Do you have a large enough tractor to pull the equipment?

Combination machines are heavier than superbeddersand/or mulch layers. You may not be able to pull acombination machine with the same tractor that pulls asuperbedder or mulch layer.

Bedder/Mulch Layers - Combination Units

• Are you able to consistently form a fully-filled and solid highquality planting bed? Because the combination machinescover the bed as it is shaped, it is difficult to visuallyinspect bed quality. You may not know if there are valleysor breaks in the bed that can create problems for the croplater.

• Combination machines are usually longer and larger thanindividual superbedders and mulch layers. This meansthat they are less suitable for fields with undulating terrain.

With a skilled operator and good field conditions,combination machines can be a tremendous tool for thegrower to keep production costs low.

Transplanters

1 BED TRANSPLANTER

We manufacture a variety of transplanters which are verysimple and reliable. Although they are most commonly usedto set plants through plastic mulch, they can also be usedon uncovered planting beds or bare, flat ground. Our designis very simple and versatile.

A floating punch wheel rolls along the surface of the plantingbed. The only pressure on the bed is from the weight of thepunch wheel. Pivoting on a single hinge at the front of themachine, the punch wheel rises and drops with the terrain.The wheel always maintains contact with the planting beduntil lifted by the tractor.

Two types of punch wheels are available. The first punchesa dry hole. The second punches a hole that is wateredwhen it is formed. Most growers prefer the water wheelbecause it means the plant is set into a moist, watered holefor better survival.

The wide variety of options that are available with Kenncotransplanters make them a valuable tool for any producegrower using nursery plants in their production program.

In its standard form, a single row transplanter is suppliedwith two seats for workers and a wheel frame thataccommodates a single punch wheel. The seat framesinclude a tray stand for the tray being used and additionaltray racks for extra trays.

Single row transplanters are available with a 200 gallon (758L) poly tank to carry a water supply or any other type offertilizer mixture. The transplanter is plumbed so that theoperator can adjust the volume of water supplied to thepunch wheel and can turn the water supply off and on asneeded.

There are many production methodsthat do not call for transplanting at theexact moment that the hole is punchedthrough the mulch. For those growerswho simply need to punch holes throughplastic mulch, we make two different styles of holepunchers.

Our PS439 hole puncher is a simple three-point mast thataccepts a floating wheel frame. The side wheels keep thepuncher centered over the planting bed and allow the punchwheels to ride over the top of the bed. This hole punchercan be used with 1, 2 or 3 punch wheels.

Transplanters - Wheels and Wheel Frames

Specifying Your Punch Wheel1. How many rows of plants will be on your planting bed? Ifyou have more than one row of plants per bed, you need thesame number of wheels per bed on your transplanter. If youhave more than one row, what is the spacing between therows of plants?

2. What is the distance between plants within the row? Wedo not recommend planting closer than 4 in (10 cm). If yourpunch spacing is too close, the plastic may rip along the lineof punches. In addition, if your punches are too closetogether, the punches may ride on top of the planting bedinstead of punching into the soil. Due to wheel slippage,soil moisture, soil conditions, and various other factors,we cannot guarantee plant spacing to an exactdimension. You can normally expect the actual plantspacing to be within 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the dimensionrequested. The distance from punch tip to punch tip with aflexible tape is very close to your hole spacing in most soils.

3. Which style punch and what size? The punch needs tobe large enough to allow the plant to fit into it, but not solarge that it can't be packed firmly into the hole. Confirm thecell size on your planting trays or pots, and then size yourpunch. As a rule of thumb, size the punch width ½ in (1.3cm) larger than the width of the cell, and the depth 1 in (2.5cm) deeper. For example, if the cell size is 1½ in (3.8 cm)wide by 3 in (7.6 cm) deep, then a punch that is 2 in (5 cm)wide and 4 in (10 cm) deep will work. The sides of thereceiving hole will collapse to some degree after beingshaped. Over-sizing the punch ensures that the holeremains large enough for the transplant.

Transplanter punch wheels punch through plastic mulch andmake holes suitable for the type of nursery plants that youare transplanting. Some wheels also water and fertilize thehole to reduce stress caused during planting.

Punch StylesOur “A” style punch is used on dry punch wheels.It punches through plastic mulch and makes adiamond shaped receiving hole. This punch ispopular for setting bare root transplants.

The limiting factor on the productivity of a transplanter is therate at which workers can set plants in a bed. One way toincrease production is to add more workers setting plants.

Sprayers

One of the most important implements used in vegetableproduction is a sprayer. At Kennco, we make the mostrugged, durable, and reliable sprayer available. Here's why:

• All of our frames and chassis are fabricated usingoversized steel to make them very heavy duty.

• Whether on a three-point hitch frame or a towed chassis,we galvanize the sprayer instead of painting it.Galvanizing protects the frame much better from chemicalcorrosion and the harsh environment in which sprayers areused.

• We use fiberglass tanks on our sprayers instead of polytanks. Fiberglass does not allow sunlight to enter the tank,minimizing the growth of algae that can clog nozzles andother components. Fiberglass tanks can be repaired andgenerally last longer than poly tanks. Because we usefiberglass tanks, we can install mechanical agitation on oursprayers.

• We install mechanical agitation on our sprayers becausewe believe it is a better way to agitate a tank, particularly alarge tank. If you rely on your pump to agitate yoursprayer tank, then you are taking flow away from yourspray nozzles for agitation. That means that you need ahigher flow pump to spray and agitate at the same time.

• The standard plumbing system on our sprayers consists ofgalvanized or stainless steel pipe and high-pressure 800psi (55 bar) hose.

• We install Comet diaphragm pumps on our sprayers. Wehave found that Comet pumps provide the high pressureand flow requirements our produce customers desire, andthey have proven to be reliable and trustworthy. Otherpumps are available upon request and need.

• Our sprayers are available with various control methods.They can be controlled manually, electrically, orelectronically. Due to the required accuracy andincreasing costs of today's pesticide applications, westrongly encourage customers to consider our electric andelectronic controls on their sprayers.

• We include catwalks on one side of our towed sprayers tomake tank mixing easy and safe. We include a quick-coupled snorkel fill line for refilling the tank, and offer apre-mix option that allows tank mixing without climbing tothe top of the sprayer.

• We offer a variety of customized boom and gantry options.They can be folded manually or hydraulically, raised andlowered manually or hydraulically, or tilted and liftedmanually or hydraulically. Our booms are custom built tomatch raised bed row centers with spray drops for directedspray applications, or they can be set up for broadcastapplications.

SPRAYERS - GENERAL INFORMATION


Sprayers - Chassis and Tanks

The place to start specifying a Kennco sprayer is the chassisand tanks. We offer a variety of different sizes, from a 200gallon (758 L) three-point hitch sprayer to a 1500 gallon(5,685 L) towed sprayer. 1200 is our most popular size.

Standard features include:• Frames and chassis are galvanized and have oversized

axles. Single axles are standard. Dual-wheel walkingbeam axles are available as an option.

• Includes a catwalk on one side for easy, safe access to thetop of the tank. (Additional catwalks are available.)

• Quick-coupled siphon fill for tank filling is standard.• Towed sprayers have flotation tires on 6 ft (1.8 m) row

centers. Tires are 15 in (38 cm) wide, and give oursprayers an 18 in (46 cm) clearance height. In someproduction systems, our standard flotation tires are toowide to pass between planting beds freely. We offer anarrow profile tire option for this purpose. The narrow tireraises the sprayer for a clearance of about 24 in (60 cm)and leaves a footprint in the soil about 10 in (25 cm) wide.

A pre-mix tank can be added to any sprayer to provideworkers with a safer way to mix chemicals. ORDERING CONSIDERATIONS

When ordering a sprayer, it is very important to tell our salesdepartment the exact boom dimensions you require. Ourstandard booms are built to spray 3 planting beds on eachside of the sprayer spaced on 6 ft (1.83 m) row centers [E].The wings, or side boom sections, are about 18 ft (5.5 m)long. End to end, the spray boom is about 44 ft (13.5 m)long.

The following information must be provided to our salesdepartment when specifying your spray boom dimensions toguarantee your spray boom is fabricated to fit yourrequirements.• The distance from the center line of the sprayer to the

center line of your first planting bed [F].• The center-to-center row spacing between your planting

beds [E].• How many planting beds you want to spray on each side of

your sprayer.• Whether you are driving the sprayer in a drive row where

no planting bed exists or straddling a planting bed thatrequires center spraying.

Sprayers - Gantry and Boom Styles

We have many different options for gantries and spraybooms with our sprayers.

Our gantries can be mounted to the front or the rear of oursprayers. Most are mounted to the front so that the boomsfold to the rear of the sprayers and do not interfere with thetractor during turning. Front mounted booms also give the

tractor driver better visibility of the boom position andspraying application.

All of our spray booms are designed to spray over the top offruits and vegetables. They are designed for highclearance, and are available in a variety of lengths to spraya variety of different row spacings.

SPRAYER GANTRIES AND BOOMS - GENERAL INFORMATION

Self-Leveling booms are designed to keep the spray boomlevel. Similar to our suspended booms, a self-levelinggantry is hinged at the center andfloats freely on this hinge. If onewheel of the sprayer drops into aditch or depression in the field, the boom remainslevel based upon gravity. A hydraulic lock isincluded to lock the boom into place if desired to doso during spraying or transportation. Self-levelingbooms are not recommended for fields that arehilly. They are designed for fields where thesprayer runs through ditches and water-furrows.

SELF-LEVELING GANTRY AND SUSPENDED BOOMS

GANTRY AND LIFT-UP BOOMS

Lift-up booms are our most basic spray boom option. Lift-upbooms are rigidly mounted to the gantry so that the boom isset at a height of about 5 ft (1.5 m) above the soil surface.The booms are folded and unfolded manually and fixed intoplace during spraying. For turning, the booms arehydraulically tilted up to an angle of about 45° from the

gantry. While lifted, the booms will clear fence posts, brushand other obstacles within and near the edges of fields.

Make sure there is plenty of overhead clearance when usinglift-up booms to avoid contact with power lines and otheroverhead objects.

GANTRY AND SUSPENDED BOOMS

Suspended booms give you the option of raising andlowering the spray boom. The height of suspended boomscan be either fixed as with lift up booms or adjustable eithermanually or hydraulically. All suspended booms are foldedhydraulically and supported with heavy-duty chain. As they

are folded to the side of the sprayer, the booms lift to anangle of about 15°. When adjusted manually, the boom canbe adjusted between a height of 5 ft (1.5 m) and 2 ft (0.6 m)in 9 in (22.5 cm) increments.

Sprayers - Spray Drops, Nozzles & Tips

Our standard booms are plumbed using stainless steel pipeto withstand higher spraying pressures and to resistcorrosion. We weld ¼ inch and ½ inch threaded nozzleinlets to the wet boom per your requirements. Instructionson how to space your nozzle inlets are described on page34.

For a broadcast application, nozzle bodies and nozzles canbe threaded directly into the welded inlets. For directedspraying application, we manufacture spray drops thatthread directly into the nozzle inlet between planting rows.The nozzle inlet directly above the crop row is either pluggedby the grower or includes a nozzle to spray the top of theplant.

Our spray drops are constructed with stainless steel fittingsand brass nozzle bodies. They flex at the wet boomconnection because they are hung from high pressure hosewith high pressure hydraulic fittings. They usually includenozzles in four positions spaced 8” (20 cm) apart vertically.

They are available to spray one side or two sides. In theirstandard form, we install TeeJet disc-core nozzles to providea fine spray atomization.

Spray hoods are available to spray herbicides betweenplanting beds in row middles. The spray hood mounts to theboom structure instead of the wet boom for strength. Itconnects to the wet boom by hose for the liquid supply. Thehood is constructed of hanging rubber or cloth at thecustomer’s request. Each hood is sized to match thecustomer’s row middle dimensions.

Sprayers - Pumps and Agitation

Because our sprayers are generally used in applications thatrequire higher spraying pressures and higher volumes, weinstall large diaphragm pumps onto our sprayers.

Our pumps are powered by the tractor's PTO. They includea manual regulating valve that is mounted on the pump forcoarse pressure adjustment. This valve regulates flow to abypass line to increase or decrease your spraying pressure.It is adjusted manually during sprayer setup. Its designallows additional flow to bypass when boom sections areshut off.

Our sprayers are designed to operate best betweenspraying pressures of 150 psi to 400 psi (10-30 bar). Thepumps will reach higher pressures, but spraying atconsistently higher pressures will reduce the life of thepump. If you are interested in spraying at lower pressures,additional bypass lines should be installed onto the sprayerfor this purpose. Alternately, you could discuss other pumpchoices with our sales department.

We have found the Comet pumps we use on our sprayers tobe extremely reliable. With appropriate maintenance, theycontinue to perform as required. When they need to berepaired, the parts are priced very reasonably and arereadily available.

Sprayers - Electric Valves

While manual on-off and pressure regulating valves aresupplied as standard components on our sprayers, many ofour customers use sprayers with electric valves. Electricon-off and pressure regulating valves are recommendedoptions for sprayers because they provide greater levels ofsafety and convenience to the sprayer operator.

In today's agricultural environment, electric valves are thebest way to operate a sprayer.

Electric valves are powered by the tractor's 12 volt powersupply and are controlled with toggle switches in the cab ofthe tractor. There are no chemical lines running to thetractor, therefore there is no risk of chemical exposure to theoperator or corrosion to the tractor if a line breaks or leaks.Because the operator can easily control the pressure andflow of the sprayer with toggle switches, he can makeadjustments to the application on-the-fly and pay moreattention to operating the tractor.

Kennco's standard sprayers that are set up for directedapplications to the left and right of the sprayer require ourSM420 valve kit. This allows the operator to shut off the left

and right boom sections independently. The kit does notinclude a pressure-regulating valve, but one can be added.Valve kits can be ordered with new sprayers, or purchasedas retrofit kits and installed by the customer.

The electric valves that we use on our sprayers are rated fora maximum spraying pressure of 800 psi (55 bar). Thismakes them suitable for the higher spraying pressurescommon in vegetable production.

Sprayers - Electronic Control System

An electronic rate control is an important addition to anysprayer. The rate control makes the sprayer a precisionapplicator, which is necessary in today's crop protectionenvironment.

We offer a rate control option on our sprayers that sensesthe ground speed of the sprayer and flow rate to the spraybooms. It automatically regulates spraying pressure toensure that the application rate remains constant. If thetractor driver speeds up or slows down, the rate controlkeeps your application rate constant. If the driver shuts offone side of the spray boom, the rate control keeps theapplication rate constant on the boom still spraying.

This is an important feature on any sprayer. Keeping theapplication rate constant minimizes instances of chemicalover-application that waste chemicals or cause cropdamage. It minimizes instances of under-application thatcan reduce the effectiveness of the chemical or requireadditional applications.

The rate control we offer for our sprayers consists of acomputer switch box that mounts inside the tractor cab, amagnetic speed sensor mounted near the sprayer wheel, aflow meter mounted on the sprayer, electric valves mountedon the sprayer, and a junction box for all component wiring.

The rate control console itself is very simple to program andoperate. During spraying operation it displays tractor speed,spraying pressure, actual GPA (L/Ha) application rate,gallons (liters) sprayed, and acres (hectares) sprayed.

SELF PROPELLED SPRAYER

High clearance sprayers are used by many growers who donot use drive rows or trench irrigation in their productionmethod. When producing tall growing crops, or using stakeproduction, a high clearance sprayer is necessary to spraythese crops.

We custom build high clearance sprayer for our customers.If a customer can provide an older tractor, we will "lift" it toprovide a clearance of 5 ft (1.5 m) and add a spray platform.By adding our standard spray booms and plumbing, weproduce a self-propelled, high-clearance sprayer. Byconverting a piece of equipment that was, in most cases,not being used on the farm, the grower can pick up a newpiece of equipment at a significantly lower price than if hewere to purchase a new sprayer.

Cleanup Tools - Mulch and String Burners

Plastic mulch can be burned with our towed burning rigwhile it lies on the planting bed. Our SM400 burning rig is achassis designed to carry a 500 gallon or 1000 gallon (1895or 3790 L) propane tank, which is supplied by the customer.To the rear of the chassis is a boom that swings to one sideof the equipment. This boom carries two million BTUburners on it. When set at the correct pressure, the burnerswill vaporize the plastic mulch. There is no lifting orremoving mulch from the field with this piece of equipment.

An additional benefit of our burning rig is that it burns stringand dead vines from stakes. The heat from the burnerscleans the stakes and leaves them free and undamaged sothat you can follow with a stake puller and remove themfrom the field.

To be successful with any type of burning rig, it is importantto remember several factors. If the plastic mulch is wet andcovered with a large volume of dead fruit or trash, you mayfind that you cannot burn 100% of the mulch. Many of ourcustomers lift the mulch from several beds and collect it into

one bed, allow it to dry, and then pass over it with a burner.Pay close attention to burning pressure and field conditionsfor best results.

PLASTIC MULCH INCINERATOR

Many growers remove mulch by hand or with lifters but donot have a location to dispose of it. Our SM397 is a portablepropane fired incinerator that can be used to burn mulchquickly and inexpensively. Stakes represent a large investment for any vegetable cropthat uses them. It is important to minimize breakage andmaximize the life of the stake. Our stake puller does exactlythat.

It uses a double chain conveyer that is timed to match thetractor speed. It grabs the stake and pulls it vertically fromthe soil without breaking it. Once it is pulled from the soil, itis transported and dropped into a hopper for bundling. Afterit is bundled, the hopper can deposit the bundle at the sideof the field.

Our stake puller will create 1,000 stake bundles and carriesits own hydraulic reservoir to minimize reliance on thetractor’s system. Customized row centers and stake sizesare available. PLASTIC MULCH LIFTER

A plastic mulch lifter is used to remove mulch from the field.The side coulters align with the edge of the buried mulchand slice the weeds and other trash that hold the mulch inthe soil. Properly adjusted, with a short top link on thethree-point hitch, the plow points lift the mulch from the soiland shake the soil and weeds off of it. The lifter leaves themulch lying loosely on top of the planting bed, making iteasier to pick up for disposal. A center coulter is available toslice the mulch into two pieces. All coulters and plow pointsare adjustable to accommodate any size planting bed.

Also available is a mulch lifter with propane burners. It uses2,000,000 BTU burners to vaporize the mulch as it is liftedfrom the soil. This is an excellent way to dispose of themulch in the field. Our mulch lifters are also available asmultiple row units.

A produce conveyor is a popular item among our customersthat harvest crops such as lettuce or cabbage. The unitunfolds in the field and is pulled by a tractor’s three-pointhitch. Workers follow the conveyor and load it with theproduce that they have harvested. Powered by the tractor’shydraulic system, the belt moves the produce across theconveyor to a second conveyor which lifts the produce to atruck or wagon movingbeside it through thefield. The conveyor canbe folded for transportbetween fields andincludes lighting for night or early morning operation.

STAKE CART AND STAKE DRIVER CART

Stake drivers are a tremendous labor-saving tool. Using anindustrial air compressor and air-hammers, workers candrive stakes into soil mechanically. Using our stake driverallows your workers to set stakes much more quickly thandriving them by hand.

A stake driver cart carries an air compressor (usually rentedfrom a local industrial supply house). It includes booms thatswing to the side and carry air lines to the air hammers.The hammers are suspended over the top of each plantingbed, typically three to each side, for use by your workers.The stake driver cart can be built to carry stakes or follow astake cart on a separate tractor.

Stake carts are useful for growers who specialize intomatoes or other crops that require stakes. A stake cartattaches to a tractor and is loaded with tomato stakes. Thecart extends to the side of the tractor over three plantingbeds so that workers have the stakes within easy reach forthe bed where they are working.

Specialty Equipment - Frost-Off Foam Applicators

Our Frost-Off Insulating Foam System is engineered toquickly produce large amounts of non-toxic insulating foamto cover your plants. Insulating foam works for short-termcold protection. It won’t protect your tender plants for weeksat a time, but it is very effective against quick frosts orfreezes in late fall or early spring. It protects the plant fromdirect contact with the cold air, and retains ground heat thatwould otherwise be lost.

No additional heat or irrigation is required to protect theplants. The foam is stable at cold temperatures, but breaksdown rapidly when it warms up, so no labor is required forremoval.

Testing on live plants at the University of Florida researchstation under the guidance of the USDA has shown thatinsulating foam is much more effective at protecting plantsthan shade cloth, almost completely eliminating colddamage to plants during a 24°F night.

Our 35 and 100 gallon applicators are designed for nurseryand landscape use. The 600 gallon unit is for vegetablefields.

Specialty Equipment - Agmaster Citrus Loader

In addition to our vegetable production equipment, we alsomanufacture loaders for harvesting citrus. If you know ourreputation in vegetable production, then you will be pleasedwith the durability and quality of our Agmaster citrus loader.

What makes our loader different from other brands on themarket is that the motor that rotates our lift boom is locatedoutside the support tower. We use a heavy duty gear andbearing instead of a rotary actuator. This makes our productmuch easier to service and repair when necessary.

We also modify or refurbish existing citrus loaders. If thechassis of your loader wears out, or the engine no longerruns, we can strip and prepare a new chassis and move theexisting lift boom and box to the new chassis. If you have agood chassis but need a loader, we can install a new liftboom and box on that chassis.

Credit PolicyTo begin production of your equipment we require receipt ofa deposit equal to 1/3 of the product value ordered. Thebalance of payment will be required prior to shipment,unless you have an establish credit account with us.Payment can be made with a credit card, check, or banktransfer. WarrantyYour Kennco Equipment is warranted to be free frommanufacturing defect for one year from date of purchasewith certain limitations. If your equipment has an obviousdefect in labor or materials when new, we will replace thedefective part regardless of whether we made it orpurchased it and installed it.

Once you have used the equipment, we limit our warranty toparts of our own manufacture. Some assemblies mayinclude pumps, engines, batteries, and valves, driveassemblies, gearboxes or other major components, whichwe purchase and use but do not manufacture. We will passthe manufacturer's warranty on to you. Any component partmanufactured by Kennco is warranted to be free fromdefect for a period of one year.

If you have a warranty claim please contact your salesrepresentative immediately and before you do anything tothe equipment. Once equipment or parts have been alteredwarranty is void.

Terms and Conditions of Sale

ShippingAll orders that are shipped, are packaged and secured tothe best of our ability. They will be shipped per customerrequest via UPS, FEDEX, Box Truck, Flat Bed, or Kenncodelivery. Customer is responsible for inspecting equipmentBEFORE signing for it. If any parts are missing or damagedit is the customers responsibility to refuse shipment, ormake note of damage with the shipper. If no documentationof claim is made with the shipper at the time of deliveryKennco is not responsible for loss or damage.

FinancingKennco’s equipment has been pre-approved by SunTrustLeasing. If you are interested in financing your equipmentthrough Sun Trust ask your sales representative for a SunTrust Credit Application. You will work directly with Sun Truston the approval and financing process.

ReturnKennco does not accept returns of used, damaged, specialorder or customized parts and equipment. A 15% restockingfee is applied to items returned in like-new condition. Creditis issued, minus freight costs and restocking fees, after theitems are received.

Customer ResponsibilityAfter delivery, the customer takes responsibility for any lossor damage made to the products. The customer will assumethe risks and obligations of full ownership. Kennco and itssuppliers will not be held responsible for any claimsregarding material loss or damages to a person caused bythe ownership, the use and the operation of the products orby any services rendered by means of said products.

Kennco is not responsible for misuse of our products, orneglect or wear and tear. It is your responsibility to maintainthe equipment and to keep it from premature failure orbreakage. It is your responsibility to keep guards andprotective devices on the machines at all times while beingused. It is your responsibility to make sure that all warningguards and decals remain legible and attached to themachines. It is your responsibility to train operators of themachines and to instruct them in general safety practices. Ifyou would like replacement or additional warning stickers ordecals, then ask us for them. We will provide them to you atno charge.

ADVANTAGES OF USINGPLASTIC MULCHES ANDDRIP IRRIGATION FOR

VEGETABLE PRODUCTION

1. Increased soil temperature: At a 2 inchdepth; typically 4º to 5º F under black mulchor 8º to 10º F under clear mulch.

2. Reduced soil compaction: Soil underplastic mulch remains loose, friable andwell-aerated. Roots have access toadequate oxygen and microbial activity isexcellent.

3. Reduced fertilizer leaching: Water runs offthe impervious mulch resulting in maximumutilization of the fertilizer.

4. Reduced drowning of crops: Water is shedfrom the row area and excess water runsoff the field thus reducing drowning andother excess soil water stresses.

5. Reduced evaporation: Soil water does notescape from under plastic mulch. Plantgrowth on mulch is often at least twice thaton bare soil. The resulting larger plants willrequire more water, so mulching is NOT asubstitute for irrigation.

6. Cleaner product: A mulched crop iscleaner and less subject to rot due to

elimination of soil splashing on the plantsor fruits. Note: Beds should be firm andtapered away from the row center. Plasticshould be tight to promote runoff. Thereshould be no puddles on the mulched beds!

7. Root pruning eliminated: Cultivation is notnecessary except for the area between themulched strips. Therefore, roots are notpruned.

8. Reduced weed problems: Black plasticmulch provides good weed control in therow. Clear plastic will require use of aherbicide or fumigation. Weeds betweenmulch strips can often be controlled by aherbicide.

9. Earlier crops: Black plastic mulch canresult in 2 to 14 days earlier harvest whileclear plastic can result in a 21 day earlierharvest.

10. Increased growth: Plastic mulch ispractically impervious to carbon dioxide(CO2), a gas that is of prime importance inphotosynthesis. Very high levels of CO2

build up under the plastic, because thefilm does not allow it to escape. CO2 has tocome through the holes made in theplastic for the plants and a "chimneyeffect" is created, resulting in localizedconcentrations of abundant CO2 for theactively growing leaves.
