CLEAN ENERGY SUSTAINABILITY

1

CES INFORMATION RESOURCE

The Renewable Energy Initiative (TREI) is a national

educational organization that empowers large

scale increases in renewable energy production,

use, and investment. Together we can strengthen

the American economy, create jobs, and build a

healthy environment.

US ARMY, SOLARCITY TEAM UP FOR BILLION-

DOLLAR SOLAR ROOFTOP PROJECT

The Army will use private financing to install rooftop solar installations on as

many as 160,000 privatized military residences in 33 states.

To put this in perspective, industry research suggests there are about

166,000 PV installations in the U.S., so the Army deal could just about

double that.

In terms of output, this plan, valued at more than $1 billion, will deliver a

total of 371 megawatts of solar power to military housing. Green Biz.com By Tilde Herrera Published September 08, 2011

Mainstream Green Moving sustainability from niche to normal

What we set out to learn

Who’s green and who’s not?

What separates the doers from the mere believers and skeptics?

Why does the gap exist?

What are the secrets of closing the gap?

What does this mean for all of us trying to close the gap?

Here’s how we did it

Believe in living sustainably

Do a few green actions

Half of Americans think

green products are targeted to:

Rich elitist snobs Crunchy granola hippies

Gendering green: is green more

masculine or feminine?

responded feminine responded masculine

The No. 1 barrier holding Americans back from green products is money

Why are we taxing sustainability?

Eco-suspicion and Eco-confusion

abound

Closing the Green Gap – Some

Recommendations 1. Make it normal – normal is sustainable

2. Lose the “crunch” – emphasize other attributes or benefits

3. Make it tangible and easy to navigate

4. Eliminate the “sustainability tax”

5. Turn “Eco-Friendly” into “male ego friendly”

6. Don’t stop innovating
