Drop Off Zone Staff are happy to assist all family in this zone of an afternoon. We would ask that parents and caregivers remain in their cars and staff will ask cars to go around the block if your child is not currently at the gate. This is to ensure the safety of our students and staff using this area of an afternoon. We would appreciate everyone’s support in ensuring that we can get all of our students home safely Congratulations Last week Kempsey East students proudly represented the school at the Macleay Swimming Carnival. All students showed great sportsmanship on the day. I would like to congratulate all the students that took part. We would like to wish Jack J, Cooper P, Estelle T, Ashling D, Harvey N, Lucas C and Cooper R good luck for the Lower North Coast Carnival that will take place this Wednesday in Kempsey. Enrolment policy Last year the Department of Education updated the enrolment policy for all NSW Public Schools. In this policy every child has a right to attend their local public school. If families move out of zone after enrolment their siblings are not automatically accepted into the now out of zone school. Families have an option to move all students to their zoned local school or apply for an out of zone placement. At Kempsey East Public School we currently have no out of zone positions for 2020. If your family has a child that is due to start school in 2021 and you are currently living out of zone please make an appointment with me to discuss this further. The out of zone process will have to be finalised before any student can start our Early Explorers Program in term 2 this year. Mobile phones policy The Department of Education have also updated their policy on primary students using mobile phones. From 2021 all students in primary school will not be able to access a device within the school day unless there is exceptional circumstance. We already have the procedure at our school that all mobile devices are to be brought to the front office at the start of the school day and will be returned to students at the end of the school day. This procedure will continue in 2020. Please discuss this with your child’s teacher if you have any concerns. P and C AGM The P&C Committee is an important part of our school community and is in urgent need of volunteers. All positions in the P&C will be made available and it would be wonderful to see some new faces join our committee. If you do not want to hold a position we would still really encourage you to attend and be a P&C volunteer as many hands make light work! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing committee, without you (and past volunteers) we would not have the cover over our infants playground, our new PA system, our swimming caps and money towards our end of year play day. After School Sport This commenced this week. As Mr Henry is currently not well Nathan will be running this program with the coaches until he returns. On Monday students are coached in tennis and on Tuesday Basketball. This is a free program and runs from 3.15pm to 4.15pm. Please ensure that you are time collecting students at 4.15pm. Staffing Mr Henry has not been well this year and so we have had to have new student learning and support officers in the school. I would like to welcome Nathan and Ashleigh who are both settling in to our school and are really enjoying getting to know all of our students. Nathan is mainly working in the year 2/3 room and Ashleigh is mainly working in the year 3/4 rooms. Parent Teacher Interviews We will be conducting our parent teacher interviews on Thursday 26 March from 2.15 to 5.45pm. Students will be bringing home notes today with instructions on how to make an appointment. Regards Penny Chow, Principal
