Traffic Impacts• Construction documents will provide a suggested

construction staging and sequencing plan• Construction documents:

– Verify project can be built

– For bidding purposes

– Focus on safety and operations

• Contractor can submit an alternate staging/sequencing plan for review and approval by MassDOT/City

Traffic ImpactsDuring Majority of Construction:

• Pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle access will be maintained

• A minimum of 1-lane of travel in each direction will be maintained

• Roadway closures and detours will be limited to short durations (overnight & weekends)

• Night work is anticipated


Traffic Impacts – Key Details• Permanent parking removal implemented at onset of

construction

• Pedestrian facilities will be provided on

• 1 side of street during construction (at a minimum) and

• 2 north/south crossings will be maintained in vicinity of Water/Millbury & Harding/Green

• Abutter access/egress will be maintained

• Existing bike lanes along Green, Water and Millbury Streets will be restored as quickly as possible

• Work hours will be set by MassDOT and City of Worcester, but anticipate some activities will take place 24/7


Stage 1 - Kelley Square

Description of Work: Existing Island Removal; Road, Curb & SW Construction

Focus Areas: Harding North/Green; Harding South; Madison (btw K Sq and Wash.); I-290 WB off/on ramp and EB off-ramp/Ward Street; Millbury Street intersections


Stage 1 – Millbury & Harding Streets

Description of Work: Road, Curb & SW Construction; Portion of Mini-Roundabout

Focus Areas: Millbury at Sigel and Endicott; Millbury/Harding South/Arwick


Millbury/ Harding Reversal

Overnight and/or weekend closure/detour(s) – Signal Modifications at Endicott Street; Striping & Signage; Police & Message board Reinforcement

Contractor to submit hour by hour plan for reversal implementation


Stage 2 – Kelley Square

Description of Work: Implement Hybrid; Construct interior of Hybrid, including truck aprons; Road, Curb & SW Construction; Traffic Signal installation

Focus Areas: Hybrid; Harding North/Harrison; Madison (btw K Sq and Wash); Harding South; I-290 WB on/off ramp and EB off-ramp/Ward Street


Stage 2 – Millbury St & Harding St

Description of Work: Completion of Mini-Roundabout

Focus Areas: Millbury/Harding South/Arwick



Description of Work: Road, Curb & SW Construction; Traffic Signal installation

Focus Areas: Northside Hybrid, btw Harding North, Water and Vernon; Harding North/Harrison; I-290 WB off-ramp



Description of Work: Construct splitter and median islands; final paving & striping; plantings and landscape details

Focus Areas: Islands and landscape areas


Stage 5 – Madison St (west of Washington St)

Description of Work: Road & temp SW Construction, short-term/weekend closures for intersection work at Washington & Gold Streets (including traffic signal upgrade)

Focus Areas: Southside of Madison & Washington/Gold intersections


1 lane of traffic/direction on Madison; Pedestrians maintained on northside


Description of Work: Road, Curb & SW Construction, overnight & weekend closures for intersection work at Washington & Gold Streets (including traffic signal upgrade)
