“Keith Haring Silhouettes” Lesson Plan Step 1: Figure Drawing Practice Using wooden drawing mannequins, practice drawing a proportional human figure using simple shapes. Gradually have students make these drawings quicker and more gesture-like. Then, have students volunteer to strike a pose and have the rest of the class sketch them. Step 2: Pose and Draw Have students pose their wooden mannequins in preparation for a final drawing. The goal is for students to create a solid silhouette. Using the 9” x 12” paper, have students sketch the pose, paying careful attention to correct proportions. Students can lightly gesture draw first, then create a darker, final outline. Once the silhouette is cut out, the cut should be taped. The 9” x 12” sheet should then be lined up on one half of the 12” x 18” paper and glued down. The cut-out silhouette should be glued on the other half. Tip: Encourage students to keep their poses simple with all limbs visible.
