FAMILY VISITSWith visitation restrictions to our programs instituted at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were

excited to begin allowing family visits once again over the summer. Spectrum for Living is now allowing families and friends to come visit their loved ones in socially distant family visits. What

wonderful times our clients have been having getting to see their families in person. We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding during the pandemic.

JUNE BINGOThroughout the month of June, our residential clients participated in an agency-wide Bingo Game!

The board was filled with fun and engaging activities, including gardening, cooking with staff, making homemade cards and positive messages, crafts, taste testing, car washes and so much more!

With each activity completed, a space was filled. With more spaces covered, more prizes were available to win for each Residential Program. We were so happy to see our clients enjoying quality

time during their quarantine. Congratulations to everyone who participated!

PROFILES IN COMPASSION

Spectrum for Living would like to congratulate another Platinum Alex Award Winner:

DIANA MANGAN

What is your name? Diana Mangan

What is your position at Spectrum for Living? Evening Shift Supervisor at Norwood Group Home.

How many years have you been working at Spectrum for Living? Three years.

How does it feel to be a Platinum Alex Award Winner at Spectrum for Living? It feels good knowing other

people think highly enough of myself to nominate me for the awards.

How does this recognition make you feel? It makes you feel pretty good and it makes you feel that you are

doing what you are supposed to be doing as far as going above and beyoned what the Alex Award

suggests.

What is it you most enjoy about working at Spectrum for Living? My clients. They have become like my

children. I would do anything to protect them and I will never let anything bad happen to them.

If you could have dinner with one person (famous or not), who would it be and why? I would like to have

dinner with Michelle Obama. She is not only smart and educated, but she is witty, she is a mom and she is

caring. I think it would be a good reflection on my mom, who is no longer here, to know this is someone I

look up to and had dinner with. Michelle would probably impart some good knowledge on me as well.

Our 2020 Santa’s Workshop, sponsored by The Sibling Group, will be held Wednesday, 12/9 through Friday, 12/11 for our Residential & ATC Clients in the Teaneck Adult Training Center gymnasium. This year, the event will be held over a three-day period to allow for adequate social distancing and to ensure the safety and well-being of our clients and staff. Each Program will be given a designated day and time to shop, so no two Programs will be in the gym at the same time. Each client will be given the opportunity to choose 2-3 items as we are eliminating the “Spectrum Dollars” this year. Our Full-Time Recreation staff will be the only employees running the event. Upon entering, each client and staff

member will have a temperature check and upon leaving, the Recreation staff will sanitize all surfaces and items. Masks are required throughout the entirety of the

shopping experience.

If you would like to contribute to this wonderful experience for our clients, we are seeking donations. Please feel free to contact the Central Recreation Department at 201-836-3721

or by email [email protected] and [email protected] donation ideas.
