Keeping Children + Youth Safe Online
Keeping Children + Youth Safe Online• The internet provides access to opportunities and
information that would otherwise remain out of children’s reach.
• It is a powerful education resource that helps children learn, providing a platform to amplify their voices to be part of a global discussion on issues that affect them.
• However, WV recognizes that children need to have the knowledge and skills to safely engage online hence, the design of KCSO project.
• KCSO is a comprehensive suite of training resources for children, parents and teachers.
• It provides the knowledge and skills that enable children to protect Themselves from racist, violent, sexual or other inappropriate content.
• Through interactive, child friendly, age appropriate materials children + youth can identify the risks and benefits of digital technology, understanding what is appropriate and inappropriate behaviour online and learn what steps they can take to respond and report a situation that makes them uncomfortable.
The project• Piloted in Armenia and Lebanon – 2009• Expanded to B+ H, Georgia (including Abkhazia program) and JWG
and soon in Albania.
• All tools were contextualized and translated in country appropriate languages. (now available in 7 languages)
• ToT’s were conducted to train trainers as well as children.
• On a national level - we partner with local org. and gvts – including the ministries of education and social affairs.
• Enhancing the CP systems approach – we collaborate with existing CP Hotlines and Helplines to build a safer internet reporting mechanism.
• At an EU level – we partner with the EU Insafe network and other EU safer internet centres to build on best safer internet practises and tools
ART Network + KCSO • KCSO is not a stand alone CP initiative – it has integrated
with existing projects - ART Network, Sponsorship 2.0, communications and more.
• Our goal is to empower youth already trained on the KCSO project to work along side and train youth involved in the ART project.
• We encourage you to contact the KCSO project managers in your country to make this happen.
