Coming Events… February 13th – 7pm General Meeting at the clubhouse

February 17th – Annual Awards Banquet – have you got your tickets? Help needed!

March 13th – 7pm General Meeting at the clubhouse

Please watch emails for announcements on volunteering opportunities for onsite projects.

President’s Report It is banquet time again. You that may not be aware that the banquet is our main fund-raising event for the year. These funds allow the club to be involved in the many things we do, maintaining and building new facilities, and offering our conservation, education, and recreation programs.

Without the banquet, membership dues would be significantly increased to meet operational and insurance costs. Therefore, it is very important that lots of members volunteer to make it work. There will be more information in this newsletter about how you can get involved.

The banquet is also where we give out our awards and enjoy some great food and music. We have sold out the last four years, but I believe that there are still a few tickets at Tyee Marine and River Sportsman.

We have nearly completed the new storage shed thanks to the handful of volunteers and Mr. Mini-dig. If you have a need for any excavation type services, please consider giving him your business. A little later in the spring we will be building a small gasoline/propane storage shed. All the materials for this small shed were donated by Chris at Windsor Mill Sales. Chris also donated the materials for the outhouse at Beavertail Lake. Again, if you need building materials, consider giving Windsor Mill Sales a visit.

In one of our recent wind storms, the dock and ramp at Echo Lake separated from each other. We are hoping that there is no actual damage and that is a matter of raising the ramp and repositioning the dock in the correct location. We will be looking to get together a work party soon to do that work.

This is your club. Please get involved. Wade

Annual Awards and Fundraising Banquet

Social directors Louise and Lil (at right) are busy preparing our 2018 banquet. Calls have gone out for meat and fish donations and some are still needed, particularly cougar & white fish. Please contact Lil at 923 4832.

Your nominations for our annual awards are also requested as soon as possible. Email Frank at [email protected]

The awards list is found below.

A team of canvassers is busy soliciting donations from sponsors for our auctions. This is our major fundraising event of the year and it provides an opportunity for the community to support our conservation and education activities by attending the banquet and participating in the auctions. Our sponsors are also recognized for their contributions, without which our auctions could not take place. Canvassers are requested to forward to [email protected] the details of their collections as soon as possible. This event fills another important job for our association. It provides the community and our members the opportunity to recognize the successes of the Association and award to members our annual excellence trophies. Director Frank Rugani reviews the nominations and presents the awards for: 1. Largest Deer, 2. Largest Tyee, 3. Largest Blacktail, 4. Largest Moose, 5. Largest Elk, 6. Largest Trout, 7.

Largest Steelhead, 8. Archery and Flyfishing awards of Excellence. The President awards the Richard Hock Memorial Member of the Year Award which is voted upon by members at the February general meeting (13th).

Volunteers are needed as detailed below

Friday - Feb 16th Meet at the clubhouse at 9:00 am. We load in vehicles all the tables, dishes, trays, bowls, etc and drive to Thunderbird hall. There we set-up the tables & chairs, decorate, lay out the food tables, the displays, and the auction tables. Food prep will also be occurring in the kitchen at

the same time. There are lots of little details to attend to such as picking up the liquor. Lil usually has some food prepared for lunch. Normally we are finished before 3:00 pm. Anyone with donations bring them Saturday morning. Saturday - February 17th 9:00 am at Thunderbird Hall - lots of food prep / cutting up cheese / cold meats and arranging on trays. All the displays will be set up. Chinese auctions items organized, live auction item organized, and silent auction items organized and arranged with bid sheets. This work is usually finished by 3pm – lunch is

provided. Then between 5:00 - 6:30pm the food gets put out. Doors open at 5:30 pm.

Volunteers needed during event: (Yes, you do need a ticket.)

Ticket collector; Drink Ticket Sellers; Chinese Auction Ticket Sellers; Lottery Hat ticket Sellers; 50-50 Draw ticket Sellers; His and Her card Sellers; Ticket sales continue when possible before / during / and after dinner. The buffet style dinner begins at 6:30pm. At 7:45 pm volunteers must clean up food and associated tables - all members and guests may participate in this 10-minute job. Sunday - 8:30am at Thunderbird Hall volunteers finish the clean-up; usually over by 10:00 am. All the left-over food goes back to the clubhouse and is divided up among the volunteers. This is a good chance to debrief and discuss changes for the following year.

There are lots of things to be done and we ask members that are at the event to help where they can. Members that are not planning to attend can still help on Friday, Saturday during the day and Sunday morning. We hope to see lots of you over the weekend.

Your help for several hours would be much appreciated! Please let Lil know if you can help (923-4832) or email Lil at [email protected] . Let’s make Banquet 2018 the most successful ever!

Building Report

Director Jerry Walerius reports that maintenance on our buildings proceeds well. The new storage shed is now complete and has passed inspections. Progress to that end is illustrated by Chris’ photos. The next building project is a fuel storage shed; with future improvements to the outdoor archery range and trail to be planned for the better weather. Our sincere thanks to the intrepid team that turned out to complete the new shed. – now that’s volunteering! Thanks also to Windsor Mill Sales for their support.

Wildlife Report

Good news! Mike Anderson has stepped up to take on the role of Wildlife Director. His major springtime activity will be to organize the deer count, so he will require volunteers to assist with this conservation project. Gas coupons are available to assist with project expenses and some new lights will be purchased. Those interested in learning more about the count should come to the next general meeting (Feb 13th) to meet Mike.

Merle Eckford will lead our Wilderness Watch efforts again this year; he is planning to meet with Conservation Officers to coordinate our activities. Thanks to Mike and Merle!

We have heard that 2500 coho fingerlings will be provided for us to release in Coho Creek in the fall. Please watch out for more details.

The pink salmon enhancement project is proceeding will as the below pictures illustrate: firstly, culling the eggs, then placing them in the box, followed by monitoring progress and the hatchling recently found. Our thanks to the team!
