Dr. Rod J. Rohrich, based in Dallas , Texas , a plastic surgeon of outstanding international stature and editor-in-chief of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the leading and mostprestigious journal in the world for plastic surgeons.

He trained in plastic surgery at the University of michigan from 1979-1985 and then undertook a fellowship in hand surgery at massachusetts general hospital. In 1986, Dr. Rohrich accepted a position in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern medical Center at Dallas College of medicine (UTSW) and became chairman of the department in 1991.

Since then, Dr. Rohrich has become well known as one of the pre-eminent plastic surgeons in the world. He has chaired over one hundred national and international symposia and delivered over 1500 scientific presentations on all aspects of plastic surgery. Rohrich is author or co-author of over five hundred peer review articles and fifty chapters in plastic surgery, ranging across the board from cosmetic surgery to craniofacial surgery. Many of these publications are considered to be landmark papers on their topics.

As well as papers, Dr. Rohrich has also published five textbooks in plastic surgery ranging from rhinoplasty, craniomaxillofacial trauma, secondary rhinoplasty and ultrasound- assisted liposuction. In 2005, he was also appointed editor-in- chief of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the leading and most prestigious journal in the world for plastic surgeons, and an editor for Selected Readings in Plastic Surgery, a supplement to the teaching curriculum of plastic surgery training programs in the United States and thirty-eight foreign countries.

Dr. Rohrich has served as a Director of the American Boardof Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and as President of the Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons. In addition to serving on the boards of numerous other Plastic Surgery societies in America and worldwide, Dr. Rohrich actively engages in many philanthropic enterprises. BBeyond: if faces age outward rather than downward, would it not be possible to have a fat transplant facelift?

Rod Rohrich: Even though fat compartments are the key component to understanding facial ageing, not every face can be rejuvenated through fat injections alone. We begin to age after 30 and skin starts sagging. The important thing to do is what I refer to as a fat loss GPS mapping of the face and to target the areas of fat loss, especially in the deep central fat compartments.

These are fixed by injecting fat deep into each compartment. This alone will work in the late thirties to forties using either fat or an FDA approved filler like a hyaluronic acid filler or Radiesse.

The key is to fill the fat compartments centrally and then do the face lift laterally, as and when needed. This is a very exciting new arena for not only understanding how we age but also how we can rejuvenate or restore facial youthfulness. B
