To rehabilitate the old Cornelius Hotel into an affordable hostel geared towards younger out-door recreational travelers. Guests experience a transition from the past to the present with a strong centralized connection that encourages gathering. This energy is carried throughout the building through transparencies, floor to floor relations and connection to the surrounding parks, with a focus on sustainable design strategies and support for the local community of Portland.

Studio Inc. is a multi-disciplinary architecture and interior design firm. The office design is inspired by the energetic shapes and dynamic qualities of origami and the conceptual connections it has to an office environment. Through the use of skewed geometry and dramatic angles, the origami inspired structures form the collaborative spaces where minds come together. The use of cement, glass and 3-form eco resin mimic the office’s original warehouse district office. Clean lines and crisp whites contrast with the sudden pops of color, creating a visually stimulating and fun atmosphere to create in.

Furniture DesignChair Design. Furniture Construction.DATE Spring 2010DURATION 8 weeksIndividual Project

The idea behind the “Hush Hush Chair” was to create a compartmentalized chair with multiple hidden functions. The modern chair first appears to serve only as a seat, but hidden in its folds are functional pull outs and storage spaces. It is made out of layered plywood and recycled wood scraps for the table and drawer.
